I was a 17 and 18 year old teenage serving in the US military during the Vietnam War. I owned the "Father is Child to the Man" album on which this tune "(I Love You) More than You'll Even Know" was recorded. I used to listen to this tune at night in dark barrack room (we shared a barrck room with one or two others at Travis Air Force Base), I was alone.and lonely. These BS&T tunes provided solace and comfort.
I think the first time I heard Al was on Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" when Bob first went electric in the mid '60s. His organ blended perfectly with Bob and Mike Bloomfield. What a great era for music....
When I was in first grade I lived in fort Lauderdale it was 1972 and my father was a great fan of BST and after seeing them I felt something deep in my heart ❤️ an started playing the drums you know practice pad first then a snare drum and brushes then a high hat and for Christmas he bought in a bass drum and I was so great ful and happymy dad had got a trumpet and he gave me the keys to his car told me hay go get your brothers trumpet it's in the trunk I opened it and there was the rest of the set 1964 white pearl GRETCH set tom toms floor tom a 20 inch ride cymbal it was a K from constancetonoble
Jerry LaCroix was a SOULFUL VOCALIST W/Great Pitch and a slight vibrato - I played bass at a gig in Henderson, LA. He was 1 of 4 featured vocalists- GG SHINN-TK HULIN-STEVE ADAMS ( I will never forget Jerry’s set- ❤felt & full body 🔥 & 🧨. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN RIP JERRY LACROIX 🙏❤️
The benefit was a great success, They was close to 600 people there. Jerry sang 3 songs to thunderous applause, GG Shin sang a duet with him and stayed by his side like a true brother as he always has been to Jerry through the years. I can't think of anyone who has a negative word to say about Jerry. He is truly one of the most soulful singer and a beautiful human being. Jerry was truly humbled by the outpouring of love from the folks and he expressed his love and appreciation to everyone.
I like the way you said it. Michael Clayton-Thomas is always going to be the best, the gold standard. But this is an emotionally sincere performance. That good and great singers want to associate with BST is obvious. They are a live band full of highly talented professionals. Great brass and understanding of where jazz, blues and rock intersect. But Michael Clayton-Thomas is not in any jeopardy of being second fiddle. It would have been interesting if Glenn Hughes had a crack at it in this period. Trapeze Medusa album era. Listen to Glenn Hughes and I can't decide if Clayton-Thomas or Hughes were best in the world or not. Young Ozzie was also amazing in this era. Completely underrated as a singer because in the analog era, Black Sabbath was blackballed globally by evangelical bigots who painted Black Sabbath as "Devil Music!", so it was a long while in USA before masses got to see and hear Ozzy, by then, his addictions affecting live performances. He was still fantastic in the studio, but Ozzy in his prime was missed in live performances he could deliver in early years. Late 60's to mid 70's was when music was moving from AM dial to FM dial, and bands like Trapeze got lumped in with Black Sabbath by evangelical radicals using propaganda to squash truth tellers. Give Trapeze Medusa a listen. The whole album. And maybe Glenn Hughes singing Coast To Coast. And understand what really happened was singers much better than serial rapist Francis SINatra's suicide drunk in the shower fartsounds... If you were clearly better than Mafia Mannatech messenger boy Francis, you couldn't get gigs at Mafia controlled venues.
God what an underrated singer. You never hear his name when people talk about the greatest singers of rock n roll. This was an outstanding performance. WOW
He put his blood seat & tears into it!!! I love this video too. I'm a big Al Kooper fan, so I would like to see him performing it live. But it's impossible to complain when you're watching this. It's fantastic.
Awesome guitar riffs and flute solo. I’d love to know more about this phenomenal performance! I saw BD&T at Lincoln Center (Avery Fisher Hall) in NYC way back near 1970 or so. David Clayton Thomas was the lead singer. Classic blues rock. Check out the Beth Hart/Joe Bonamassa cover if you get a chance.
i had the pleasure of working with this guy and he is the most soulful singer i have ever played behind in my 45 years of being on stage and in the house band at the apollo so there it is
My mom and I found this video a few years ago and we fell in love with this song, the video, and this man pouring his heart and soul into the song. After doing some research feel so sad to know he has passed. I would have loved to tell him how we felt his soul through his music and how beautiful it was.
Michael Clayton-Thomas is still the gold standard. No contest obviously. But it's amazing that BST band so great, that great singers want to identify with BST.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Fisher once. We have a mutual friend and he owned a bar in Bay St. Louis Mississippi. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet.
I don't remember what happened to this guy, it's being so many years, but this gave his soul on the stage every time he put his magnificent performances in from of as. Insuperable we're not going to see never this king wonderful musician any more, is very sad. I love your wonderful personality, powerfully, never seen before, and unfortunately never we will.
What an amazing performance! OMG he put his heart and soul into that song. The entire band was fantastic...The end brought tears to my eyes and body chills..wow I haven't been so affected by a live video, I dont'know when...loved it!
I knew Jerry . wow, there is nothing more to say than what you did , early days at bamboo hut were unbelievable and a ride over a hill in his red vette
Went looking for Al Kooper's version to play for my years-younger fiance. And I found this. After listening to Jerry's rendition of "I Love you more than you'll evet know," I am stunned. I wish I could say "Thank you, Jerry," in person and am sad to learn that he passed 7 years ago. I will settle for "Thank you, Jerry, for giving me even more than I was looking for from Al. Rock in Peace!"
Jerry lives on the lake in east texas now and takes care of his mother mostly. He does a few shows every now and then. I wish i was even old enough to remember this. Great music!!!
I knew Jerry LaCroix. He lived in Port Neches Tx. 15 minutes from my home. That is Jerry on vocals here. Yes, He does play sax but not on this. What an awesome talent he was. RIP Jerry "Count Jackson" LaCroix
AH....these were the years for our group back then also.....Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago Transit Authority, Cold Blood, Tower of Power...etc etc...oh ya! Might be over 70 now and in the "twilight" BUT when I hear THESE songs.....Hmmmm...Gerry Vee is back and 30 years old again....Magical moments, fantastic years with magnificent groups with great artists one and all.....wouldn't trade my generation for another!!!!
I know exactly what you mean, Gerry. They were also some of my favorite groups and I still think I'm 23 when I hear them. I grew up in the Bay Area and saw so many great shows in the late 60's/70's and will never forget them - my life's blood!!!!
The best song every written first concert I ever saw "The Nevada Kid" Since then I have lost love and now makes me cry. Beautiful ❤️ my love to all of you.
@WilliamHW...welcome home, and I too stayed up nites listening to this great song over and over again, praying for all my soldiers to come home alive and in one piece!.....I can't get enough of this great song!
I saw the band couple times, I can't get enough with their music, so much feeling, so much love on every note. I LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU'LL EVER KNOW MAN.

I am pretty sure that I met Jerry in Buffalo, when he was touring with Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer. He does a slammin' rendition of this old BS&T classic. I am sure that I saw BS&T play live in concert at least once back then. As I recall, it was Al Kooper who did the vocals on the BS&T studio version that made the album. Great pipes! Great performers, and great performance. Thanks for posting
@@hot88s23 Some of us will have to differ with you on that. The original by Al Kooper had all the emotion as this one without having to gutter it out every verse. It moved me in a more pleasing and dramatic way.
I have been playing guitar since 1959 and I was the guitar player in Edgar Winter's first horn band and Jerry Played sax and sang, I was 17 years old and Jerry was 19 Edgar was 15 years old we had (with Jerry) 6 horns guitar bass and drums, I have played all over the world with some of the best BUT Jerry is THE MAN even at a young age when he sang Drown in my own tears it brought tears to my eyes. There is going to be a Benefit in Beaumont TX August 29 for Jerry. I will be there.
I got cheap tickets to see them in 2017 in Melbourne, Australia and thoroughly enjoyed them. I miss this type of music…nothing to do with age, more to do with good musicality.
The most powerful, and dramatic performance of the last Century. I wonder were us this guy, never hear nothing about him ever. Very sad,,so sad, w loosing this wonderfully musicians for good, so sad. I love you more than you ever know!!!!
The benefit will be attended by many of Jerry's friends from all over. I am proud to say that Jerry is a friend of mine. David Doc Holliday
After this performance, the crew had to pick up the singer's heart off the stage because he left it LAYING THERE. Absolutely fantastic!
He puts his heart into it. Still prefer the original with Al Kooper, founder of BST, singing the song that he wrote.
Agree but still not al kooper
Well said!
I was a 17 and 18 year old teenage serving in the US military during the Vietnam War. Blood sweat and tears had amazing musicians and singers.
Al Kooper is such a legend he doesnt get nearly as much recognition as he deserves
True, many people don't even know the greatness of this great musicians, but, we fortunately do!!!
Absolutely!
Lynyrd Skynyrd
I think the first time I heard Al was on Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" when Bob first went electric in the mid '60s. His organ

Michael Clayton-Thomas took over because he was simply the best. It doesn't mean others are no good. But keep it real.
Bobby Colomby was the best drummer no one (but me) talks about! BST was the greatest jazz rock band from 1968-1976!
También me gusta mucho la guitarra de Steve Katz. Personalmente, se me hace similar al sonido de Santana.
He was my first influence on drums

Jerry LaCroix ROCKS. Underrated. He deserves much more recognition.
Jerry LaCroix was a SOULFUL VOCALIST W/Great Pitch and a slight vibrato - I played bass at a gig in Henderson, LA. He was 1 of 4 featured vocalists- GG SHINN-TK HULIN-STEVE ADAMS

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
RIP JERRY LACROIX 🙏❤️
Is LaCroix the singer?
Have since 1968 been a big big fan. Seen all of their L.A. concerts. Chicago was a good band but BS&T rocked.
That deseved a standing ovation
Jerry Lacroix was a soulful singer, for sure!
Some of my greatest musical moments playing guitar behind Jerry with Edgar Winter and Bobby Ramirez in 1963
+David Holliday Respect!
much respect!!!
David Holliday much respect, thanks!!!
I played sax with Jerry in 67. Every night working with him was a music lesson--what a great talent
I remember I was there and it was the best

God what an underrated singer. You never hear his name when people talk about the greatest singers of rock n roll. This was an outstanding performance. WOW
The Roll dropped from the Rock in the very early 60s. It was just labeled Rock. But there were variations of Rock like what we hear here.
This is blues man!
Tony Klatka /trumpet astoundingly wonderful !
My favorite song since the first time I ever heard it! Still the best song ever!
Listening for 52 years.
my favorite also, but this guys back phrasing is killing me
He put his blood seat & tears into it!!! I love this video too.
I'm a big Al Kooper fan, so I would like to see him performing it live. But it's impossible to complain when you're watching this. It's fantastic.
For me this is one of the best of BS&T👍👍👍

Now go and listen to the original with Al Kooper singing it. His original composition it is on the first album of bBS&T
Michael Clayton-Thomas is still the gold standard. No contest obviously. But it's amazing that BST band so great, that great singers want to identify with BST.
You mean David?
Jerry Lacroix is the most soulful singer I have ever heard.wonderful. thanks. UL.
Jerry your singing will inspire me for years to come!

OMG WOW UNBELIEVABLY STRAIGHT TO THE HEART ❤️
One of the most powerful Soul-performances i've ever seen.. pure Love!
What a tune! Epitomizes the blues at their best. Jerry LaCroix knocks it out of the park vocally and grab that guitar work by George Wadenius!
Listening for 52 years and this evening is this first time I have viewed this concert in Booty Stank, Germany!
We remember you and love you, Jerry. Get well soon. We're thinking of you--this illustrates how full of soul you've always been.
Jerry lives on the lake in east texas now and takes care of his mother mostly. He does a few shows every now and then. I wish i was even old enough to remember this. Great music!!!
This may be the best vocal I've heard on this song. Kudos Mr. Jerry LaCroix!
WHO is the lead vocalist on this - Jerry Fisher or Jerry LaCroix ?? - it's Fisher, right?
LaCroix
i don't think so. Wasn't Lacroix the sax player ?
I knew Jerry LaCroix. He lived in Port Neches Tx. 15 minutes from my home. That is Jerry on vocals here. Yes, He does play sax but not on this. What an awesome talent he was. RIP Jerry "Count Jackson" LaCroix
Thanks for explaining
Good night Elvis, sleep tight Janis Joplin. If you are in company with this guy, I guess you have a jolly good time. Hang in there Jerry.
Now Johnny Winter too--Janis and Jerry, have a good ol' Texas/Louisiana jam up there.
One of the best vocal performances I've ever heard sends shivers up my spine. Amazing 👏
Realmente este ha sido uno de los iconos de nuestra cultura pop and rock de todos los tiempos ; El hermamno Jerry se encontrara en estos momentos en la gloria de DIOS.

Jerry LaCroix is one of the greatest vocalists this country ever turned out
The music, the voice, the lyrics, I love so much that is not easy to explain how good I feel!
Maybe my favorite BS&T song. Great music and memories from the 70s. Time for me to cash my chips in. Glad I was alive back then.
