I have fished in SF Bay for 37 years now, such a sustainable fishery, pleasure to participate. These spawns occur each year from Coyote Point to Pinole Point and all places on between. My best year was 2013-185 tons! I am Ernie Koepf, Ursula B (the little red boat)

Glad to hear it! Not sure if you'll see this but it's worth a shot. I'm interested in working the herring fishery. I am a deckhand on ferries and tugs but work as a casual on my own and think this would be a cool side gig in the beginning of the year. I know that it's dwindling and it may not be a stable income on its own but I think my job is unique where I would actually have the time to do it. Hopefully you see this I know this year is kind of a wash but if you're still at it in 2019 I'd be interested in decking for you.

Thanks! It was truly an amazing experience to be so close to the fishermen and to witness this. Until I saw the haul, I would never have suspected that there were so many fish in this relatively small area and so close to shore.

Has somebody tried to create an enhanced artificial herring structure that protects both the herring fish and the herring eggs so that 99.99&=% of most of them will survive? And has someone suggested to use liquid ozone to treat the water periodically to neutralize any toxins? And has someone suggested to place porous clay pots at the bottom containing a mixture rock dust powders-mixtures and iron oxide dust powders and diatomaceous earth dust powders in equal proportions by volume, and then will slowly dissolve into the water in order to enhance the mineral richness for the phytoplankton needed for the herring fishes to expand their numbers?

I love herring but it does not seem anyone has any clue on the state of the herring populations as a whole. If the herring population is desimated like cod orange ruffy and others it will affect sealions and a number of birds. I hope aginst human nature the herring stocks are well managed. Right now the stocks have gone down since 2013.

Im surprised it has lasted this long. I no longer see the huge fish populations in the Bay that I once did back in the 70's. Same with the duck and geese populations, that would literately blanket whole entire parts of the bay at a time.
Seeing the spawn the other day was very uplifting and refreshing, thanks for all your great videos MB..!

Do you have reason to believe it won't? The fishery here is one of the best managed in the world.
