@ChrisPfish We are the boat right behind you launching. You could have made it out the gate for salmon that day. Wind wasn't bad and the fish were biting. Tight lines!
Nice fish.....I got one about 50lbs over 30yrs ago on The Bass Tub off Seal Rocks.....he put me on his brochure.Biggest was 180 in Queen Charlottes on salmon gear(single action w/25lb line.)......thanks for the great videos.
Nice fish and looks like a good day on the water with great tides. All the scratch baits seem to be baby butts, the future looks good. I launched at Richmond a couple weeks back and the parking was horrible. Thanks for creating these videos, they are very entertaining and educational. I am looking forward to seeing your video on what you look for on how you decide what you will fish for. I use NOAA for swell forecast and windy for the wind. Thanks again!
Wow!! Nice fish ! That was a huge one! Hopefully we find one close to that out there Saturday! Can’t believe all the people out there! Almost makes me not want to go! Lol .. but I’ll be there! Nice video!
ChrisPfish we went.. got some good footage of the fire .. but the fishing was horrible! Not good for most seemed like .. tried that angel island drift.. had some big bites but only getting half the bait.. we did get a rock fish but threw it back.. moved to the flats had one my buddy slipped and botched the net job.. and i couldn’t get it untangled and it got off.. bent the hook.. and we had a couple take downs but they didn’t stick.. before the wind was way too bad to drift or trolling and we had to leave.. but we will be working on the video anyway.. that’s fishing.. and it’s still content for the channel..
@@ReelLifeFisherman I will still be looking forwards to the video even though the bite was tough. I am doing bodega on thursday. you should go if you can. good wind and swell. Lots of options out there.
Man I absolutely would love to go.. not sure I can this week though we are backed up in the shop.. doing service work and installations and rigging boats like madmen right now.. I’m off weekends.. but I can switch days off for a week day if I work that Saturday.. so we will plan something bro.. I’d really like to meet up and fish with you..
Thanks man! Yeah I was proud of the net job. He for sure would of ran all the way back down if I missed. My late friend Danny took a lot of pride in netting, so that one was for him! I appreciate you watching my video and making a comment!
great video once again, I was planing on going on Monday, but that line of boats in the beginning of your video looked gnarly and is making me rethink going monday going after the holiday weekend is over.
@@ChrisPfish2 yeah bro, great videos and lots of good info, keep it up! I got out on memorial day, it was a madhouse, I saw at least 100 boats between the flats and TI. It was a shaker fest, ran into only 1 guy who came up with a keeper. Two much fishing pressure and the sudden heat probably gave the halibut lockjaw.
Great halibut but not a fan of nets on this size. Seen a few snap the actual connecting rod and swim off in the detached net. Might consider a nice gaff with the sales going on. Aftco makes some good gaffs. Monster fish wise check out the California Dawn web site. On August 12th-2019 Cal dawn got a halibut that taped out at 50 inches and right at 50 lbs an absolute monster for the S.F bay. On April 25th they got a 38 lber. More recently and on the front page of the Western Outdoor news was a 78.2 lb White Sea bass a dude from Woodland caught off Berkley which is apparently a line class record . The bay has some beasts biting. but the launch and bait situation lol!!! WOW!!!!
Keep dropping bait in the holes off the back side of Angel island on the right tide and you will eventually get a brown and white sheet of plywood with gills . This area historically has produced some serious beasts in the 40-50 lb range and i know of 1 that went 62 lbs.
If you want big Halibut go to capitola or santa cruz. Seal rocks in August or september is also the spot for big ones. Bring a bigger net or get your gaffing skills on point though. greetings from portland oregon
Thanks Nick! Yeah what a first halibut huh. He doesnt fish at all so he had no idea he just brought up a fish of a lifetime. Appreciate you watching my videos, thanks!
Great video, passed by the south side of Angel a few times but never stopped. After a dozen scratched baits at oyster point I added the stinger but kept pulling grass. You ever have that issue? Nice work on the net!
Hey there, it happens more in some spots then others of course. To prevent it, keep the hook closer to the fish, newer leaders seem to hold the hook up more. Ones used several times tend to sag more. Try a lighter weight stinger. Bigger bait, bigger stinger. The fish has to carry it. As the bait weakens/dies then it happens more too. A fresh/lively bait can keep it off the bottom. So lots of little factors to help keep it off the bottom. Thanks for watching my videos and congrats on 100 subs!
Hi Matt, yeah I was proud of my net job. Easily could of messed that up and the fish would of same 55' back to the bottom. Thanks for watching another one of my videos!
Yeah I use rubber band on the frozen chovy when trolling. I feel like i tried it on a live one but it didnt work well. I cant remember what the problem was. Will try again. I dont like to use my trolling motor in the salt because I have the freshwater one. I have started to use the drift sock. Thanks for watching and making a comment!
ChrisPfish -I use the rubber bands for dental braces to hold the treble nice and tight. I use a fresh water terrova trolling motor in the salt, just make sure to rinse off thoroughly. Doing it for about 10 years w/no problems.
Excellent video as always. How long is the leader on treble stinger hook. What size and brand is the treble hook? What size and brand of main hook? I like your hook setup, very ingenious because it catches fish and simple. Good thinking on stinger hook hurting the bait fish. Thanks for the shot of your hook setup 8:59 minutes of the video!
Not sure brand, I buy premade kits. I like size 4 or 6 hooks. The treble slides so you can adjust how far back it goes. I like it about half the baits length. Thanks for watching my videos!
Whats up Ahmed! Appreciate you watching another one of my videos and all the support! Your day will come, hopefully like Mike its on your first time trying!
California Dawn followed you Chris 😀. I caught a 37” from the New Huck Finn a couple of years ago. Awesome feeling getting a big one like that in the boat. Great job guys!!!
ChrisPfish just wanted to let you know that I caught a 34” on the incoming tide on Thursday 28th between the ruined Berkeley pier and the bay bridge using live anchovies. We had 5 keepers and lots of shakers Thanks for the advice through your videos.
Excellent video...savage flatty. Any way you get them in the boat is good...but is there a reason you don't gaff those? Any clearly legal halibut I get to the rail gets a hole poked in it...
no drifting with the wind and current. That is prefered for halibut fishing. Cover more ground and presents a more natural bait presentation. Good luck out there!
Another awesome video...especially the instant replays of the net job! Now I think I need a bigger net.😎 My boat is similar to yours so I’m looking forward to the tutorial video you plan to post regarding weather forecasts for wind, waves, swells, etc. That said, I’m not brave enough to venture outside the Golden Gate onto Big Blue but I do want to gain more knowledge and confidence navigating to and from distant spots within SF Bay. Lastly, I was surprised to learn live anchovies are available for purchase in the north bay...thought the only place you can get them is at J&P Bait in SF. Does Keith at Loch Lomond Marina now regularly have live anchovies in addition to the live smelt he’s had much of this spring?
Watch my tomales bay video. At the end I leave my email and say send me a video why I should take you. Give it a try, you never know. I want to take someone. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
