    sphagnum moss can actually impact your frogs and cause some pretty harmful damage to it or it could have a hard time digesting it’s food. other than that this is an amazing setup and will definitely be doing something like this in the future!! :)

    Your one of the first I have seen use hydro balls in a pacman set up. Why is that? Will you not have to dump it in a month?

    • @jeferforever
      @jeferforever  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pacman frogs need very moist substrate and to keep from having stagnant water sitting in the soil I have a drainage layer with the hydroballs. If I over mist/water the tank, the excess water goes to the drainage layer which then slowly evaporates back up into the soil. The sprintails and isopods consume any mold that forms in the enclosure so I dont need to change the substrate. I just look for poops cause they're too big for the CUC to clean up very well

    • @TerraOblivion27
      @TerraOblivion27 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeferforever amazing thanks for the reply. If that's the case, you do not change substrate out at all? And your critters are healthy? I ask because this seems much more efficient than having to change often. And seems healthier since it mimics real life. Also did you create the fogger or store bought?

    • @jeferforever
      @jeferforever  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TerraOblivion27 yeah I never have to change the soil. I maybe add more leaf litter or mix it up. The isopods eat decaying debris and poop and the springtails eat mold that grows

    thanks for the tutorial! Im curious about how you clean it? I believe the froggy pees and poop

    • @jeferforever
      @jeferforever  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The springtails eat mold build up and isopods eat fecal waste. Pacman frogs have big poops so I spot clean the poop when I find it. Once a month I clean up the glass and stir the soil. Occasionally adding in more isopods and springtails as needed

      Hes doing great. He went into hibernation shortly after introducing him into the enclosure but he enjoyed it when he was awake. Since this video my philodendron has died, I think he tore up the roots. But the CUC is triving still.

      @@jeferforever I know this comment was awhile ago, but you should never allow your pacman frog to hibernate. If your pacman hibernates its terrarium is probably too cold or doesn't have enough humidity

      I just use a strip UVB light to view the enclosure. The pothos and my frog can benefit from it. Pothos and philodendrons are low light plants so this UVB light is good enough for them but for plants that need more lighting you might need to find a better light.
