@@michalzdunski honestly? I would never know, due to me adding everything piece by piece as I couldn’t afford to do it all in one go, but over the 2 years I’d easily say around 1000 max? The most expensive pieces were the initial offset though, like the tank itself and the lights, then the acrylic lid I had to cut etc.. after that it’s just the inhabitants which aren’t actually too much. But upkeep is easy by being able to feed left over food etc… that’s saves sugar and cricket costs 🤣

Ive been thinking about starting up something similar to this in an old corner tank i still have in the garage. Im surprised by the sheer lack of flies in there given all the food you are dumping in.
To be honest the fruit gets eaten far too quickly for them to even reproduce. But I have had gnats before, couldn’t say it was ever out of control though or bad. Thank you for watching 😄

I have a 150 gallon tank and want to do something very similar to this. I have 2 questions: I breed mourning geckos, I want to put a few in the tank. It looks like you keep your enclosure open on the top. How do you keep yours from jumping out? I know Vaseline works for most bugs but what stops the geckos from just hoping out from one of your plants? How do you keep the ant population in check? What stops them from murdering everything else in the tank? In my experience ants are a species you can not really keep with anything else.
Hey Salt! First off thank you so much for commenting. Okay so question one, my lid has a square in the middle, when I got the geckos, I essentially just used double sided magnetic tape, to create a tight fitting light around the square with a mesh screen, I then just place a fan on the screen. This stops the geckos and ant flying things getting out. The ant population is controlled by the amount of other critters inside, they compete with them massively. Not aggressively, but peacefully and this is the balance which stops the colony being overfeed and booming. I also used European fire ants (Myrmica Ruginodis) which aren’t as prolific as (Solenopsis Geninata). This was also Sadie to the fact the species was native to me✌️❤️
Kinda surprised the ants haven't taken over and eaten everything tbh. I still remember the lizard I caught as a kid in arizona and put in a tank only to get get back from a shopping trip to discovered ants got in and killed it.
Thank you so much! 😄 Don’t worry though, hopefully one day I can get more views & better equipment. I do all my filming and editing on my phone so my content is limited. Plus cameras be expensive! 🤣. Your view and comment are all the support I need, thank you! ✌️❤️

When i saw the pachnoda beetle eating the chicken meat, my whole view on the world broke into pieces! I always thought they only eat fruits! Now they seem a bit creepy to me...
A video I made where I make a natural setup for my Ligniperda I explain it on that video and show how easy it is, the only difference, instead of using corrugated plastic, I used thick acrylic sheets. 😄
I normally use acrylic sheets or corrugated plastic lids, then I cut a square in the middle in a rectangle shape, enough off me to cut, tweak and add. Then i barrier the underside with mineral oil. I then use DIY magnetic square with super fine micro steel mesh which sits flush on the rectangle and acts as like a magnetic mosquito net, magnetised on each corner with either Magnets, or I just double sided magnet tape them on and glue each end firmly. I have the basics of the lid on one of my ant videos, I believe it’s the Ligniperda bioactive setup, I show how I make the lid.

Hey! Thank you so much for watching and I’m glad you liked the video 😄 In regards to the tank, it becomes lower maintenance the longer you have it. I have a question, and that is why feed them so much? I feel that could be detrimental to an ecosystem. Also, I feel that your isopod population has gotten well out of control and just looks like the Tokyo metro all the time.
The isopod situation definitely got way out of control. To be honest, it was an easy way to decompose and add too it, but that added to the increase of each species. I’m making a brand new one and more which you will see on the channel updates that are already out. My shorts are an easier way to catch up. Thanks so much for watching ❤️
@@AntScapes1Recently found your channel (yesterday) and I can say is you make top tier content! Keep up the great work. Never built an ecosystem myself, but once I move and get some dosh, I will definitely build one for my self.

When you have to remove a species like the stick bugs, do you have to go in and get each one individually? And what happens if you have to end the tank, like if the ants got too populous?
The ants never get too populous due to the fact I’m not adding extra queens and letting it runs its course, but not only that (because certain ant species could) - I have a lot of natural predators for the ants, even the crickets, to the geckos, millipedes etc, I am however, closing the tank down and starting a whole new one with an individual biotope like from say “Asian only species” or “African species only”.
