Giulietta Masina should have won the Oscar for Best Actress...
Oh yes !!!!!!! She was magnificent !!!!
Wasn't a member of the academy or SAG.
Those are union awards.
Of course!!
What a great actress !
She's the best actress ever.
Giulietta Masina was described as the "female Chaplin" but even that genius Charlie would have a hard time matching her blend of pathos and humor in that beautiful film. And no I'm not one of those people who falls all over every "foreign" film trying to sound cultured at cocktail parties, my tastes are pretty pedestrian, but Cabiria is in a class by itself.
So very true!
Well said.
Bro totally agree and I'm the same!!!! La Strada is my second favorite film because of her, she's beautiful just beautiful.
poor guy
The ending of Cabiria is an homage to the ending of Chaplin's City Lights. Two of the greatest endings in film - I love them both equally.
she looks so nervous omg, what an angel
she is probably my favorite actress of all time
At first I was thinking that calling her the best actress of all time was going a little bit too far, but then I tried to think of a better actress and I'm hard pressed. Maybe Barbara Stanwyck? Audrey Hepburn is pretty amazing too. Anna Magnani always lights up even the lousiest movies. Elsa Merlini is wonderful in the few movies I've seen of her. People will probably tease me for including Naomi Watts. But Giulietta Masina is really special.
She never seems like she's being filmed. She always draws you right into her character.
Giulietta, the simplicity that only great artists have!
I love Bridge on the River Kwai, but for me Cabiria was the best film of the year - and one of the best films ever made.
i love federico fellini, le notti di cabiria & La strada are works of art.
Masterpieces.
Nina Rota's music in the final scene is what made this film memorable to me and the final look and smile of Giuletta Masina into the camera lens that crossed the boundary , a very through the looking glass moment.. that look brought you the viewer into the movie for the first time..WOW.
Nino Rota not Nina!!!!!
Yes, it's one of the great endings and the music is incredible. It's a direct homage to the end of Chaplin's City Lights - also incredible music, and the final close-up.
What a fantastically happy and sad movie. I laughed and cried. It's a true classic!
Mother India is an absolute classic.
Love Fellini and the movies of Sir David Lean
Lovely Mrs. Fellini. She could tear you apart with those eyes.
Madonna mia - of course, it HAD to win! Such a great film and a nice speech by Giulietta too. And I agree with many of you, she should have won best actress Oscar.
My favorite Fellini film ... from a hard-to-pick selection. A shame that Astaire couldn't get her name right ("Miss Jolly-O-Toe Maseena will accept the award") given that she had given one of the great performances in ALL of cinematic history in 'Cabiria.' Still, what a thrill that she got to walk onstage to accept. Poor little sparrow: it looked as if she were going to pass out. Bellissima, Giulieta. Ciao.
Che tenera...Giulietta scendi dal paradiso e donaci la dolcezza di Gelsomina e la forza della speranza di Cabiria
Wow, what a treat seeing Giulietta up there next to Fed Astaire, and receiving an Oscar.
"Ginger e Fred" would come later of course.
rest in peace sweet guilette your image and spirit lives on!!!
this was a fantastic movie. moved me much more than an most english films, and especially "around the world in 80 days"...
RIP Giulietta Masina (February 22, 1921 - March 23, 1994), aged 73
You will be remembered as a legend.
oh my god i want to hug her
Though 'Nights of Cabiria' did beat 'Mother India' by just one vote. But when I saw it for the first time, I was stunned by the brilliance of this film. Both the films are absolutely magical.
Maravillosa y Grande Giulietta Masina!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
1:07 A proud moment for all Indians
I've seen Mother India and was glad to see it represented here. I really hope they do an HD remaster of Mother India soon, as some of it looked really beautiful, especially the end scene.
Every so often, they get it right. One of the greatest films ever.
How did not Masina get a nomination for best actress for this Picture, did the Academy have something against foreign films?! Her performance was defently Oscar worthy! She was crazy and Amazing as Cabiria, though nobody deserved to win over Woodwards incredeble performance as the evas.....
such a great list of nominees that year, and a fine winner to boot.
One of my favorite films
So proud of Fellini in Italy
It was such a wondeful, lovely night!
I loved the score of the film. well deserved ;D
Mother India Our Pride ❤️
Love that movie in English, what a voice and manner of speaking she had....love love love
questo filmato non è stato mai mai trasmesso in Italia... qui è una rarità
A great fim, well deserved!
One of the Best Foreign Language Films Ever... And Oh I Love The Name Cabiria ❤️❤️❤️
Mother India
Couldn't Astaire get her name right?
So beautiful and poised
Meravigliosa Giulietta!
What a cutie pie, I love her so much
so beautiful
Lovely and sweet. And Roz was wearing one of her fabulous costumes from AUNTIE MAME, which would figure prominently albeit unsuccessfully the following year.
I get what you mean however I think (and I know it's a trite phrase) that getting a nomination means recognition; they may not have won for directing or best film but they've gotten in various other categories. My point is that some people like to critisize the oscars for not giving "enough recognition" to whatever it is they want (foreign films, comedies, comic book adaptations etc) but their critisizm never extend on other, I underscore, National awards.
Rosalind is wearing one of her outfits from "Auntie Mame"!
I didn't know she spoke English. She was awesome in La Strada.😊😊
1:07 I'm here for listening ' Mother India ' from India 🇮🇳👏
Bellissima
Фильм шедевр, Феллини - гений, Джульета - одна такая на весь 20 век.
True decision, well deserved
Giulieta was so sweet, Love her
Pero si esta hecha un flan! Es la viva imagen de Caviria
Bravo!
Deserved more.
Dana Wynter was super gorgeous
Nice to see Ginger and Fred there before they reappeared on television together in 1986.
Masina shld've at least been nom for best actress!! IMO, she's the best actress of 1957!
They are proud of honoring foreign (language) films but only in a single category. Apart from ''Best Foreign Language Film'', foreign films haven't got almost any recognition throughout the years, even nowadays.
YAY FELLINI!
The greatest
Fellini! ;D
Mother India 😊
the best foreing laungege Movie in my opinion
Giuletta !!!!
Rosalind Russell is so Auntie Mame here.
My favourite woman ever!
So what? It's a national award and just like any other national award in other countries (Bafta, Cesar etc) they have only one category for foreign films which btw can be recognised in other categories as well.
Mother India🇮🇳
This was the first nomination ever by India but we lost the award just by 1 vote😢
1:. de muchos que hay en la vida y pierden todo, una desconocida le dice hijo y la despoja de todo y la deja debajo de un árbol lo malo es seguir en vida y arrastrándose, nunca se sabe para quién y como terminan.
1:43 "Miss Jee-oo-letta Masina"
Name me some Foreign Language Films that have won an Oscar for Best Picture or Director. You get what I mean?
Alfonso Cuaron is the first director to win Best Director in a foreign language film. Roma was so close to win Best Picture.
3.Mother India.Yay..!!
Came here for Mother India!
Mother India lost this award by just one vote😭😭.The producer of this movie sold his properties to get a flight to LA hoping to win the award, since the movie was predicted by most to win.
Just 1 vote... But Mother India still legendary...
Dana Wynter was in "Invasion Of The Body Snatcher" one of the best Sci-Fi ever.
Le notti di cabiria
Here for Mother India
Italy wins
As a side issue, wasn't Dana Wynter extremely beautiful!
I think she was the most beautiful actress of the 50's
@@davidchen3594 There were quite a few: Gina Lollobrigida, Daniele Darrieux, Lee Remick etc, but Dana Wynter was exceptional. I loved her in "Sink the Bismarck" and in "Invasion of the Body-Snatchers" in particular.
@@ghtsw11 I prefer her performance in the colorful D-Day the Sixth of June
@@davidchen3594 Perfectly reasonable - she was delightful in all of her parts
1:24
Mother india should have win
And to think that Mother India lost it by 2 votes.... 😖😖
Even if the two men had been present, she would have deserved to be up on that stage with them, if only for what she does in the final three and a half minutes of the film. ASTOUNDING.
the great Fellini looks like Masina who starded in his film. he looks pretty weird
Too bad they couldn't pronounce her name properly.
HAA....QUESTI PICCOLI ITALIANI !!!
MYL
Mother India ❤️ is the real winner instead of 'Night of cabiria'... Which potrait sexually side of women who is not even don't any worth or meaning in the story .... On the other hand Mother India ❤️ potrait of mother love and the consequences of women's life and women's soul..
Italy won here but not in 2022 for The Hand Of God
Fellini and Masina and far too few Oscars...
How I wish Mother India had won!
Fellow Indian spotted :) but then I watched Cabiria and that was damn deserving I must say
Awards are antithetical to artistic values. They are commercial.
mother India should have won
nope
Mother India should have won....
nope.
Federico Fellini and Giulietta Masiina, legendary of the world's movie!!!
@@My.name.is.SickBoy : just watch the movie, you are ignorant
*watch the movie you will like it
@@rabeapakind3709 don't need to be rude
@@josephine1465 Sorry, it wasn't meant to be. I am still learning english. I wrote with google translator and didn't check what it translated. Unfortunately, I no longer know what I wanted to write and where an error occurred in the translation. But he / she should watch the film first before he / she just writes no.
Mother india 💔❤
