Hi Rebecca, I think I didn't explain myself properly in the video if it came across like that. What I meant for starting with older generations is so that it can help younger generations, but more accurately as they will have genuine comparable data rather than guess work. If it gave older Autistic people a voice, that voice is better than trying to guess from different studies which contradict consistently. I can tell people all the things that are of concern, why they are, and ways I have found to manage. If they reached out to us and listened, it would help so much more than running a test on a mouse as I gave for the example. The problem with the research no matter what it is, is the fact there is ALWAYS another piece of research to debunk it, just as the one with the mice. So it is 'guess work' if it cannot be conclusive, and that is why it frustrates me as it's just a forever money spinning machine, and Autistic people are the real test subjects. It is good to hear there is a lot of support for adults in the US, and actually surprising as people always tell me how they are very behind in Autism diagnosis, how professionals are not fully trained in Autism, how insurance doesn't cover Autism, and how it can impact in courts should couples spilt up and there are children involved. You are definitely the first person to say there are positives! So it is good to hear there is help for adults as there isn't here unless you need high levels of assistance already. I would be very interested in doing the genetic screening thing, and we have similar things here that let you know if you have intolerances to foods, prone to certain disease etc...and it is that bit that worries me. If I saw something scary on there, I would worry about it for the rest of my days!! 😂
Hi Rebecca. I'm not Paul, but I do live in the US and would like to know what adult services you know of, since myself and everyone I have come across (including online) are at a loss on what to do as an autistic adult.
Thumbs up for keeping your intro. EDIT: Getting to your point. Yeah, nothing is changing. I decided... I am picking up smoking a pipe. I chill with a Sherlock Holmes sort of life. I drink a little whiskey and just try to chill before the week. Then, I try to manage my week... and enjoy what I can while moving the ball forward on what I prioritize. Week-to-week... I don't make much progress... but maybe it moves a hair.
I was told by an autistic therapist who's the daughter of someone huge in the autistic community. I was told, if I wanted to get involved to help autistic non-profits....I need this $6k post-grad certificate. Really annoying, considering it took me 17yrs on/off to earn my degree. She could've offered gaining exp by working in the non-profit....I've read statistics that 25% autistics graduate HS, and 1/4 of that graduate college. If that's true, that.s .0625 of people who work so hard for just their bachelor's degree. I'm the same, I was 12 when car phones & aol was coming out. I'm SO GLAD, my childhood didn't start with tech. I'm tech called an xennial--in between gen x & millenial.
I haven't been assessed for autism, but I've got it. And the question is Why are we born with it? my personal opinion is it's evolution. Non-autistic people are reckless. without being disrespectful. They rush into everything. They buy things which are useless. Wasteful. (They're destroying the planet) I won't go on. When something evolves and becomes strong, it grows. when some evolves and becomes weak and dies, (evolution). People with ASD are more cautious They didn't rush into risky things Some people with ASD have high IQs or high Intelligence. They are the next step in evolution because they are much more advanced without destroying the planet. I don't really know how to explain that well, but I think you get the gist.
I believe this too, which is also why I believe they won't let Autistic people govern Autism. It's also why they consistently try to find ways of suppressing it rather than accepting it. And I suppose also why they never reach out to Autistic adults to understand Autism who can provide clear and direct answers, and instead attempt to 'figure it out' in unborn babies and toddlers who cannot speak to them.
Love this, as always love the intro. I believe we are discriminated against as a minority/different culture. I too am glad I'm autistic. There's like 60% left handed autistic...would you call left-handed a disability. I believe we are a form of human evolution & I don't care what anyone says...I think we're better.....but being gaslighted by being "squashed" told we're disabled. I do believe they should put non-speaking/intellectual autistics at the side of the spectrum in a different category...I guess we have the levels. I know this will prob get flack. But, with my autism, I have a bigger brain & more neurons....my brain is f-ing awesome. The other side of the hyper-connectivity is anxiety, social disinterest, sometimes emotional dysregulation, overload/shutdowns. I do believe we're better & it's like any minority that threatens----gaslight their reality & therefore these evolved humans will not be a threat. Hahah, you just mentioned the evolution thing---great minds lol. We just need our own city/country mate, I would love to 100% be around only autistics. There are a category of annoying/rude autistics that don't seem to have adhd or learning issues (dyslexia, etc)...they are well-meaning....but, I even like being around them over an allistic person. This is where I'm at in my life. I get tired of not speaking the same language...it's exhausting.
Haha, I've got to admit when I've spent time around other Autistic people, I've had a better experience. Not everytime, but it's certainly more on the side of Autism than not. We have good points, we have bad points, just like everyone else. It's that they see it as a disability, I get that as I try harder so people won't put me at a disadvantage by default. I shouldn't have to, but need to because of the mindset or others. And I agree, there needs to be a clear definition at certain points for Autism, as its far too vast. It's like referring to the US as one place, and not realising how different it can be when you look st it closely!
Hey Paul hoping you and little George are well ? Another well done and explained video you have inspired me to record my own version of this topic I’m going to make mine Autism Expert v Non Autism Expert | Who are the Autism Experts I agree strongly with everything that you have said !!

Haha, I had AOL too. I still have that woman's voice burnt into my head when she said 'you have email' every single time you logged in 😂
I haven't been assessed for autism, but I've got it.
I love your intro. I find it soothing.
Thank you
Love this, as always love the intro.
Hi Gemma. Me and George are fine thanks. George is having the male implant this week as he's a different dog at the minute. So that will be interesting!
I actually thought this just recently! ..I just think that maybe some environmental factors pushed the gene too extreme which led to low functioning dependant types. Possible. Same with adhd possibly.
Thankyou for your insights! Makes me feel less alone whenever I listen 😁
I should stop commenting before the video is complete!
The work forse? Adhd for action and autistic for labour forse? Random thought.
If anyone realised the money opertunity, wouldn't that be the people running highest positions? I need to stop joining dots🙄😬
Good on you mate. Time for people to get uncomfortable about a few thing, come to grips with their discomfort, then experience the loveliness of acceptance, if not understanding. Or am I just fucked in the head?
You're not mate. We need hard times to appreciate the good. Otherwise we've nothing to appreciate at all!
employment tribunals help those with a disability to have a better tomorrow than today, not for money but for change!
They can do, it's just a shame it has to reach the point where you have to force people via legal routes. People should want the best for others.
@@AdultwithAutism The Equality and Human Rights Commission does state that when the duty to make reasonable adjustments arises an employer is under a positive and proactive duty to take steps to remove or reduce or prevent the obstacles an employee is faced with (4).10 Sept 2018 THIS IS THE MOST POWERFUL WORDS TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER
True. But changes must also be reasonable. The term reasonable changes per person. That's the struggle I have faced with previous employers.
@@AdultwithAutism please read the pdf document I have emailed you tonight as if it's reasonable to you and it makes sense then ask. The problem is not yours the legal duty it is with the people that you ask to state why your request is unreasonable. Think of it as you wish apon a star and see if the wish comes true! It's for others to say it is not unreasonable! It's very hard for them to say it's unreasonable unless it costs a fortune! Believe in the process as the law is with us for 12 years! Use the law to open as many doors as you want embrace reasonable adjustments and ask and keep asking in writing over and over until all doors open!
It's a good document for those who need it 👍🏻
Wow, so true! $$$, so sad!
