    I want everyone watching who may not understand how amazing this Vlog is to know that Ethan is literally playing against THE absolute BEST American players and some of the best players in the world in this vlog. I think the biggest mistake was checking the flop w QQ. I can live with the call in the KJ hand, can’t fault you for calling that one. But, I never see slow playing a big pocket pair as a good thing to do. Win it when you’re ahead. Especially when it’s against 2 opponents.

      Correct. Being a shorter stack at the table with an over pair to the board that should be a jam every time 3 handed. It would be hard for the opponent to call with just a gutter and over card

    • @Ihave10billionsubs
      @Ihave10billionsubs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally onboard with that, but I wonder if the guy with the gut shot would have folded it, unless Ethan jammed all in (and jamming is not necessarily the optimal play there).

    • @grindix
      @grindix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The AT 4 bet jam surely trumps the QQ flop check as mistakes go by in this vlog. But yeah closing the action checking the QQ is pretty bad this short and against 2 players. The river jam on the 5d is even worse and too thin.

    Youre the only guy in the world who can have a 4 suited board and say theres a flush possibility.
    And youre the only guy in the world who can call a off 75 percent of your stack with second pair and say "not much else i could do its just one of those situations".....yep... One if those situations where you think they are always bluffing despite the fact youre usually wrong.

  • @robertw8897

    One of the best bits of advice anyone ever gave me came from my platoon sergeant many years ago. It very much applies to a tournament like this. He said never let anyone intimidate you. When you allow someone to intimidate you, you will end up telling them what they want to hear as opposed to what they need to hear. He was referencing a brigade commander that he used to work for. After he realized that, he just threw the truth out there, and damn the consequences (short version of the story.....lol).
    In poker, the same thing applies. Don't let the status of other players affect how you play your game. You will probably do 1 of 2 things.....you will either give them too much credit to always having it, or you will think that they are so good that they can bluff you all of the time. Play your game and don't let them force you into playing theirs........imo.

    I think you need to revisit pre-flop charts again. Everyone is debating whether or not it's a good call with KJ but my point is, early in a tournament, why are we even opening KJ off in UTG +1? This is just a straightforward fold pre. There's no need to play this wide. I can understand like a 78 of hearts on occasion just because it can flop big, but what kind of pots do you even win with KJ? There's just no way that raising KJ off in UTG +1 is profitable long term. So if you just followed pre-flop strategy you'd never even end up in that situation against the 77s.
    Also, I know it's SB vs Button, but what is the point in calling off your stack with AQ here? Against AK, AA, KK, you're totally crushed. Against JJ and 10,10s you're flipping. At this stack depth, maybe he's jamming a small pocket pair versus a three-bet? Maybe...That's like best case scenario. So, considering the combos you're a huge dog to (AA, KK, AK, 28 combos), and then considering the other combos are like flips, well, you get what I mean? Like there's not much of a point in calling it off here. You can wait for better spots. Shoving AQ is a different story, but calling an all-in with it, generally, is bad.

  • @gs6810
    @gs6810 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The last hand I would be piling in money on the flop. The SPR is too low to be afraid of anything but on the other hand that flop connects way too good with SB and BB calling range to give them a free card. After you let the them see a free turn and they just call, the river is a nightmare 5 of diamonds and now you lose to random 5's and flush draws, all of which are calling that turn bet. I think you just have to check back. What are you getting value from? I think a 9 probably leads the turn after you check the flop. By the river everything else got there. I just don't see a lot of value hands in their range that are calling and way too many nutted possibilities on that runout. Chances are that if you lead flop he calls and you go all in on the turn and lose but at least then you played the hand correctly.

      What??? Wtf kind of comment is this ? Ethan didn’t do anything wrong , it’s just his opponents are so great , way better than G man could ever be ????
      Like really ???
      Bro all Ethan does is gamble. When he talks about hands he doesn’t even know what he is saying and he admits as much.
      He is very talented , very successful , and very smart.
      But he’s the type in poker to be a chip leader in a tourney ... then have a stack almost as big join the table.. and call an all in with AK off preflop and celebrate the situation as if he has AA vs 27 , already won, and the hand is the over. His thing is gambling. He loves all in ... with AK , AQ, like he has no clue.
      He’s where he’s at because he’s good at TH-cam and had the luckiest run of online poker I think I’ve ever seen. He did make some nice plays ... but strategy wise .. he’s not just bad ... he’s super in experienced and has no idea what he’s talking about. Like at all.
      Props to him for making the best of it. But the results of this tourney aren’t because he’s playing against the best of the best ... it’s because he plays absolutely recklessly.
      And put some respect on Gman name. Good god 🤦‍♂️

    The KJ hand near the beginning was a punt. Calling off in that scenario is losing at way too high a frequency. Believe it or not, you don’t have to go all in with AQ after you just got above starting stack. It’s a good hand, but Aces, AK, and all pocket pairs (which he can easily have given his 3-betting range) have you crushed. Winning is also about the hands you DON’T play. The pocket Qs hand wasn’t bad but you absolutely have to bet out on the flop there. Nice shot at this tourney.

    You gave it a shot and that's sometimes all you can do. At least I hope you can get staked soon for the next tournament. But in the meantime, check your wallet/broker account to see if you can afford this. You don't want to have to dip into bigger reserves if your punting is too often.

    Don’t get rampage… I’ve watched for about a month. Havnt seen him actually win pots with anything. He’s either punting away terrible positional bluffs or low stack praying pre flop all ins. He never just relaxes and waits for a flop to actually connect. It’s just punt or all in. He has to find a way to get into more turn/Rivee positions where he actually has something instead of being pot committed or worce and forcing something

      Doesn’t connect with flops? You’re joking? He connects every single flop and most of the time with top pair plus massive equity on top (both straight and flush draws).
      Watch any of his videos and keep this in mind
      He will mostly hit top pair with both draws in equity
      When he had ace he will hit and get safe flop
      When he doesn’t have Ace, one won’t come
      If he doesn’t have an A and there is one on board ... Ethan’s opponent will have the ace but Ethan will luck out on better (2p, trip, straight or flush)
      Don’t even need to go further than this video. He shoved so many times with K high and no ace. When he was dominated - he got his card. He went all in 3 times and won with no aces. Then the 4th time he shoved he landed his set of 6s and the ace came ... just to value his opponent to call lol

    Yo great content bro, always exciting to watch your videos!
    I feel you could capitalize on your image when you have great hands and potentially get calls by weaker hands. You should be getting called by weaker hands more often if anyone is familiar with your play OR should easily tilt the opposition as you're a young player. Whoever folds to you making a big bet will later make a suspicious call against you (doubting your hand)
    Anyways, no need to slow play - let them doubt and overthink, you do you!

I mean, he just flatted your raise pre flop on the button. He essentially has an entire uncapped range of hands here. Better luck on the next one. At least you took your shot.

  • @patrickboom4079
    @patrickboom4079 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    I feel like you continuously think you are bluffed and feel like you need to commit your entire stack. These guys will eat you alive. Think a spot through. That KJ definitely was a punt. The AQo you are almost always flipping or behind. Yes they can bluf. But you do not have to hero call all the time. Love your videos though

    • @ccox2823
      @ccox2823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the AQ is more of a punt than the KJ, I don't see the KJ as a punt considering the opponent and the stage I think he can easily be bluffing this spot.

    • @sitlos.
      @sitlos. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. That AQ just felt like a bad call for some reason in that spot. And it’s like he is afraid of being called a nit at the poker table or in his videos? 🤷‍♂️. Maybe vloggin makes him play more aggressively too, idk? It’s ok to play a little tighter and slower pace sometimes that’s all. Don’t be a hero all the time and stop over analyzing every hand. Back to basics! Lol. Good luck tho Ethan either way!

    • @patrickboom4079
      @patrickboom4079 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ccox2823 The KJ your opponent was willing to commit his entire stack, even though the board got even worse for your hand on the turn. He was repping a very strong hand that was not afraid of the Q on the turn. Of course, you can convince yourself he is bluffing, and sometimes he will. But you can also wait for better spots. The best players know when to Fold. Anyone can play the nuts, the top can be patient and wait for better spots or until they have Developed a read.

    • @ccox2823
      @ccox2823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, while I agree with all you said I still don’t see it as a “punt” at least not like a cristal clear decision on that river considering the stage and the opponent as I said before, these guys do bluff at the right frequencies unlike your average joe in a low stakes buy in, on the other side the AQ hand I see it as a cristal clear punt, his hand is almost if ever good here considering its the btn who’s jamming, btn has all the incentive to call and play ip, he’s literally only jamming his premium hands, its not like there was a crazy dynamic/history between them so he can justify start calling AQ there.

    Congrats for making the tourney and playing with the best of the best! Yea, it sucks, but you gotta keep your head up high and continue on. I know it's easy being armchair quarterback, but the last hand I would've shoved QQ. Even if everyone folds, you pick up blinds, etc. That's why I HATE slow playing QQ/KK/AA because it seems someone always catches up with something that I doubt they would've called your all-in. But who knows, maybe he would've with A2?! lol. Congrats nonetheless!

Its an ok call. Id say as early in the tournament that he made the call was the only spewy part of it but his logic isn't bad. The guy isn't value shoving AQ there
