That Audi 90 IMSA car is a monster. After entering the Trans-Am series in 1988 with the 200 Quattro and absolutely owning the rest of the field that year, Trans-Am officials imposed restrictions to penalize Audi’s AWD and other innovations. (“Hey, let’s change the rules if we can’t compete with them!”). Audi continued to dominate despite the restrictions until Trans-Am officials banned AWD outright. So, Audi joined IMSA, which had less restrictions. That 90 Quattro made 720 hp from 2.1 liters. Unfortunately, the reliability went down, and Audi had many DNFs in 1990. However, when nothing broke or crashed, they won. That they were still contenders for the championship despite the many DNFs is a testament to how dominant this car was. Those revs from that 5-cylinder bring goosebumps when you consider the history of that car.
Doug really said "only a 5 cylinder engine" on the IMSA GTO :( 5 cylinders produce one of the most heavenly sounds on earth. Greetings: A 5 cylinder driver.
I wish more automakers made mainstream wagons and shooting brakes instead of SUV’s…. They have more character and probably more economical and practical
A performance wagon isn't more practical than a performance SUV. The extra ride height and interior space that an SUV provides is a huge benefit. I love wagons, but the reason they don't sell well is because SUVs make more sense to the masses if you're living with them every day.
This RS6 is honestly disappointing. Audi did literally the smallest changes and call it a throwback. They could’ve did what Porsche did, add rear bucket seats to improve weight. Add more carbon fibre to improve upon chassis…. Add roll-bars to improve upon balance. Audi didn’t even bother to improve power for a limited production model. What they actually did was give it a colour scheme, slightly improve upon suspension, (probably borrowed from Lamborghini), and literally call it a day after increasing the cost 40K from the standard RS6
They need to install it to RS4 and replace that ill-fated 3.0/2.9 engine, which is prone to fail. That I5 engine deserves to be installed into real four wheel drive car with quattro.
So the regular RS's that were already built and left over from inventory were given a fancy paint job, some alcantara and a few other goodies like a key fob that says you're almost unique and special. Then they jacked up the price by about +50K under the pretext of better suspension and three carbon fiber panels. Marketing guys are amazing.
Ok and? You act like porsche, Lamborghini, pagani, Ford, chevy, and ever other manufacturer hasn't done something similar? They've all brought out limited edition cars that are just normal old stock with body kits/paint schemes and a 20hp increase....
