    When Mauryan empire fell in India the remaining Maurya Royals came to Sri Lanka and became Sinhalese. They later had their Sinhalese dynasty within Sri Lanka called MORIYA !

    I am a Theravada Buddhist from Sri Lanka. My race is Sinhalese.
    In our Buddhist scriptures
    It mentions the teachings and beliefs of bharath during the Buddha's time.
    But there is no mention of a religion called Hinduism. Even in the history books there is no mention of a religion called Hinduism.
    Instead, about the teachings of the Vedas and
    The names of various faiths of God are mentioned, but those faiths and beliefs were not called Hindu.
    There is no mention of a religion called Hinduism in the history of Sri Lanka.
    Before Buddhism came to Sri Lanka, the Sinhalese of Sri Lanka followed tribal beliefs and Brahmanical Vedic teachings.
    The early Sinhalese embraced Buddhism, but they did not abandon their faiths and beliefs. They also continued with Buddhism.
    Many people from India who believed in the gods belonging to the current Hindu religion came to Sri Lanka and embraced Buddhism.
    But they also did not abandon their original faith and beliefs.
    That is the Sinhala Buddhist society
    Paththini, Vishnu, Murugan, Ganapathy
    The reason for the popularity of pilgrimages.

    TO this day there is a region in Singur West Bengal called SINGHALPATTAN !

  • @BogalaSawundiris
    @BogalaSawundiris ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Unfortunately today the West-Bengalis and Odias have forgotten their blood relationship with the Sinhalas. This happened due to the Islamic invasions which reduced the communication with independent Sri Lanka

  • @BogalaSawundiris
    @BogalaSawundiris ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sinhala script is more similar to Odia scrip. Just compare Sinhala alphabet and Odia alphabet and you will see.

    Vanga and Kalinga had Narasimha worship strongest than any other region and therefore the importance of the term Sinha from that region spread to South East Asia before Cholas even went there.

    You have done a great job. You are now one of the few indians I respect.
    You are right. We Sinhalese and Tamils have lived in this land in total harmony. The colonizers and our politicians devided us apart!

    • @AkshayaKapoor
      @AkshayaKapoor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Dilipa...I firmly believe that divisions are something that colonizers and politicians have long used to forward their ambitions and power. They should be the one who should be stiching the divides, but sadly they do not because they get mileage out of it.....its sad but its true that many politicians total existance is based on this division politics and they never want these divisions to die out.....rather they want the fault line to increase...beacuse that would increase their power....

      Maybe Ravindu, Yaksha are even described as celestial entities in the ancient indian stories such as kathasaritsagar. So maybe. But yes some modern interpretors of history also compare them to Vedda.

    "Sinha", the husband of Supadevi is NOT a lion. He was called "Sinha",
    probably due to his bravery OR
    He might have referred by his clan name.
    Also even before Asoka sent Mahinda to SL, there were Buddhists in Sri Lanka, even Buddhist monks.
    but the King of Anuradhapura became Buddhist when Asoka sent his son.

    Modern Sinhalese are predomimently South indian tamil and keralite. The original sinhalese were brutally killed by portugese and it reduced sinhalese community almost from 40-50%. Once dutch opccupied the country, they were more concentrating on low country particularly due to cinnomon and spices , they saw that theres a serious human resource / labour deficit. They sent ships to then populated coromondal coast of tamilnadu and kerala and imported many south indians from Coromondal. Unlike of portugese, dutch never had intention to propagate their faith so therefore they patronised sinhalese buddhist temples. So, with the assistance of the buddhist monks Dutch government managed to successfully sinhalize the recently migrated aouth indians. That is the reason genetically we are more closer to south indians than north indians. We are almost 70-75 % south indian tamil and keralite.

      @@AkshayaKapoor Sure.I do have documents. But then again the dominant castes of Sri Lanka namely Salagama, Durava, Karava castes migrated to Sri Lanka during dutch period from south India. For instance , Sarath Fonseka the Army chief instrumental of Ending the 30 year war belong to Karava +Durava Mix and they have not more than 350 years of history in this country. Even my grand ancestor moved to Bentara, GallE district from Coramondal coast Tamilnadu. There are many sources. I will share with you. Some are in Sinhalese. But if you google the above mentioned castes youll find out.

      Sinhaleese are not a makeup of just one group dumbo..... they are a mix of the subcontinent and forever will too... its history (taken from mahavamsa, chulavamsa and other tikas) is filled with these different migrations.... e.g: vijaya came with a bunch of bengalis and mixed with the natives (this is the first recorded / starts off sinhaleese), many migrations from kalinga (these included craftmanships), there was heavy migrations during the pallava period, chola expansion (tamil lang took a permeant foot hold during this time), an army of rajputs also stayed, the heavy disruption of magha (people migrated to south to get away from him), also the one i found very interesting were the migrations from java/sumatra.... and it kept happening and will continue to happen...... the sinhalese identity is a fingerprint of the subcontinent... even the DNA findings have shown this to be true..... So ur comment suggest me that u have only red history after the 16th century and not anything before that...... The video actually shows what I say... well done to the creator!!!

  • @BogalaSawundiris
    @BogalaSawundiris ปีที่แล้ว

    The genetic admixture chart used in the video to show 70% Tamil ancestry among Sinhalese is from a flawed study. The study used Sinhalese of the more recent South Indian origin Durava, Salagama and Karava castes from coastal areas more which to an unbalance shift in the results. This is because these 3 recent castes make less than 30% of the total Sinhala population. A more accurate research done using more of the original Sinhabahu descendant Sinhalese from central regions of the Island points towards a predominantly West-Bengali genetic origin where there is a 72% Bengali genetic ancestry of Sinhalese. This is further proven by the fact that the predominant y-DNA haplogroups are the ones found in higher castes of North East India or North India.
