    I remember saying to my mother at the start of that season I thought Pompey could win the FA Cup as she was from there and couldn't believe that they were ever in the Premier League at that point. I had one of those feelings and even she questioned if I thought they actually could. Thankfully she got her trip to Wembley a few years before she passed and it was one of her favourite days. So it has a great place in my heart too.

    Thanks for this. As a Pompey fan, I was so nervous before both the semi-final and final as I knew Portsmouth would not have a chance again like this in a long time. Little did I know we would be relegated two years later although we did get to the FA cup final again in 2010.

      Thats right. Freak game and result at Old Trafford, which was the only way any team would have knocked out Utd that season. We were favourites from that point. In some ways, I enjoyed the 2010 Cup run as we were the underdogs throughout and I think we would have won the final if the penalty goes in. With that said, seeing Sol lift the cup is something I'll take to the grave with me. Especially as we've been out side the top two divisions for over a decade now.

    • @maliciousbloke
      @maliciousbloke ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Bean-js9bc I was at that game lol. How Utd didn't score is beyond me. Several glorious goal line clearances before we won the penalty.
      Between that and Barnsley getting all the premier league giants out the way for us, it just felt fated that Pompey would go on to win it.

I mean how else can you explain why in 4 years they could be owned by A gun smuggler hiding daddies ill gotten wealth, a man who stole his wifes money to buy the club and even then didnt have anywhere near enough actual capital, a person who may not even have existed(still called Ali El Mirage by fans to this day), a person who commited fraud in multiple european countries.....and a man who held the club to ransom over the ground who failed to disclose business dealings with the aforementioned gun runner. These days, the way that modern football is going, the FA may as well not bother with the qualifying rounds, the 6 rounds and semi finals. They may as well just look at the bank balances of the big 7 (if we include Saudi Utd) and just let the wealthiest two clubs play the final. It will save a lot of fixture pile ups, injuries and broken dreams for the majority of clubs. Alternatively, they could exclude the mega-rich clubs (who usually view it as a consolation prize) and give the other clubs a chance.
    It looks like the draw has conveniently set things up for an all Manchester final.
    Here's hoping that I am proved wrong and that Brighton or Sheffield United win the FA Cup this year.
