Good on you for throwing some money at it. Absolutely magnificent… not just one of the finest MB ever made but one of the finest cars ever made IMHO and will probably gain even more road presence as it ages. I’m really jeal… err… pleased for you.

W140 and R129 were so ahead of their time. One of the best cars Mercedes ever made. But I still drive my W124 because it is cheaper to run and parts are still available. Thank you for sharing this amazing car
Nice car a Bruno Sacco design. The W140 was when Mercedes started adding more gadgets and electrical gizmos. I’m glad you were able to find the battery draw in the alternator cause sometimes working on these can be a big deal trying to track down the draw. I’ve purchased aftermarket mirrors before and they’re pretty good as far as the looks and fit not Mercedes-Benz but work. Awesome job Sam!

Sorry to say this I don’t like European cars. One they are very expensive to fix And 2 one small job turn in a big job most maintenance you have to pull the car a part to do anything. You can have those cars I would never own one.
Very impressed with your knowledge and dedication to getting the job done properly. As a W40 owner you bring confidence that there are still some engineers who understand them. Would love to come across and see you at some point and very grateful for your input on the wiper blade nightmare we have been enduring for a while now. Excellent and wish you the very best

Hey Sam.........I have not had an alternator catch fire, but I have had a SAM Unit (Engine compartment) MELT several connections, fuses, wiring harnesses, etc....(this is sort of rare)....Obviously, some sort of short somewhere....this is on my 08 Mercedes E350..... Previous Owner CUT several of the wires, from several harnesses, wires melted, fuses on top of fuse box and on the side of the SAM....so there was some intense loose current somewhere...........obviously in an attempt to stop the damage from the excessive current (draw) that was obvious....so I am replacing and re-wiring the SAM in the Engine compartment and checking the wiring, etc.,......Yes, scary when electrical issues erupt........Re Wiring the SAM is not something that many people have done before so this is learn as you go.......lol.......Great Content, love the channel.......All The Best from Dayton, Ohio, USA...........

Hi great vlogs. I bought clk240avantgarde 2004 and it had loads of warning lights ESP, BAS, SRS, ABS. NO dipped left headlight no left number plate light etc, etc. So nothing wrong with the the headlight bulb and the fuses were fine. So I unplug the headlight unit 20 odd pin socket check the power with a multimeter that a car shop sold me and get no voltage then I check the meter on the battery and still nothing. So it's a d dodgy meter which wasted loads of time. Anyway spray the various power supply sockets and do the number plate light and magically we lose most of the warning lights and I get the dipped headlight back. I also had topped up the battery with ionised water as well. Lost the engine warning light as well. The engine is 96k miles and perfect by the way. But still getting SRS warning light left which is the seat belt restraint no? I sprayed it with silicon spray as someone advised and it does retract and lock when you pull it. Any ideas? No I don't have or want an obd2 reader that everyone seems to have. Which I think gives people more confusion than solutions. I think people don't need to go to a shrink if they have mental health issues. Just get in an old classic Merc and go for a drive late at night on a quiet dual carriageway and drive the merc and all your problems will seem trivial when you get home with a big smile on your face

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the OM642 engine and MB anciliaries.Alt went on it and I bought a refurbed unit privatley. It caused chaos and my mechanic said it was a miracle that either it and/or the engine didnt go on fire as it was pumping out 17 volts, Had to replace a load of sensors afterwards as the were throwing light and codes!
Another great video, getting to be one of my favourite watches. Keep em coming. On what said about the older Mercs i agree i have been a Merc man since the 80s and NEVER had any issues,, then come the 2000s and EVERY one had issues, had SLK kompressor failure, a SL500 2002 model, troubles with that in 20k miles, suspension probs, electric issues , and a heater which froze you in winter and stuck on hot in summer, so a severe downfall in quality was told outsourced more to China,, hence the probs i guess??
Can only agree this was the pinnacle of S class quality. Some proper s class tax at play there I remember those wipers being £150 each which was embarrassing to ask. They did come down drastically before they stopped supplying them. Mad when you think some of the wipers now are a hundred quid.
There's nothing like a W140. I owned a S420 when new. Unfortunately plagued with the deteriorating biodegradable wiring. Problems started from new. MB wasn't aware of the issues until later on. The killers of these cars are the HVAC evaporator. It's a 20 hour job to change out. The evaporators themselves are made from dissimilar metals - bound to fail through oxidization. Having said that. For the money. Buying and maintaining. They're still a far superior car to nearly everything else on the road.
For me it has to be the the S 600 long wheel base in black... Fully tricked out and cared for like it was royalty.. Of course that version is a high maintenance cost baby ..

I love this car and merc and SPR and anything related.
My fave S class too Sam. Would love to see it after a good detailing.
Excellent as always. Another one saved !
Thanks!
@@keithexum7312 thank you Keith 🙏
Loved the video sam, drove loads of them in the day at mac garage......never saw a rusty one unlike the next gen...
What a car, really beautiful and solid. I love these models.👌❤️
Absolutly top draw lads Excellent work
What a beautiful car Sam. Greetings from down under mate
Can only agree this was the pinnacle of S class quality. Some proper s class tax at play there I remember those wipers being £150 each which was embarrassing to ask. They did come down drastically before they stopped supplying them. Mad when you think some of the wipers now are a hundred quid.
Always an awkward conversation isn’t it.
Evening sir car has failed it’s MOT in n wipers, there £200 😂
What a lovely car, well done yet again, and boy can John move 😄
That song popped in my head, “alternator, it’s probably the alternator, it’s probably the alternator” 😂
great job as always lads saved another one keep up the great work
There's nothing like a W140.
I hope the owner gets the exterior detailed and the car is cared for ongoing.
A door not opening from the outside is part of mot pre checks.
If it wont open it is a refusaal to test
I think he meant pre mot so he can fix the things that will make the car fail its mot
Nice one mate!
For me it has to be the the S 600 long wheel base in black... Fully tricked out and cared for like it was royalty..
Of course that version is a high maintenance cost baby ..
Simply glorious video Sam! Is it for sale?
Thank you.
And I don’t think so.
@@danielmccarthy1982 never for sale. I'm taking it to the grave.
Awesome car model is that how they should be built great turn around again 💯👌👏👏👏👊
