Never saw one do that... have seen bad rad caps let coolant out, but not from a thermostat and worked as a mechanic for many years before switching to all auto body/resto work.
Cool video AC I bet some people thought their FORD engine was bad because of this. I have had FORDs, CHEVYS, GMC, and Oldsmobile vehicles. All have had a problem. But I never had a FORD engine blow out. Keep the cool videos coming
I need to find me a old pick up to work on i'm getting bored. before even watching the whole video I was thinking when you said it was running hot I thought thermostat been there. Great job!
Yep. It's expansion due to boiling. Like when a pot of water boils, it rises up and flows over. You were right to be worried about head gasket but always check the easy stuff first. People try to make it home while boiling, then warp head and then it does the head gasket as well (if it's European, just looking at it the wrong way does the gasket in). Great content buddy. Let's get the Rustang fixed up!
I have a 2000 ranger with a 3.0 v6 and it had a head gasket leak, but it was so miniscule it was hard to diagnose. It never smoked and it didn't consume coolant quickly, but would overheat after 20 mins of idling, we used a sealer and it fixed it, but access to the thermostat was very simple, didn't even need to remove anything else, just two bolts.
@@Topher_1551 if your coolant is boiling your engine is overheating, try getting an obd2 scanner that can give you live data, like a blue driver, they let you see water temp anything over 200 would be too hot for your aluminum block
@@minibowler damn man idk what it is. I had some elbow price changed a while back the dude messed up the wiring harness and it doesn’t read on my gauge
97 2.3 ranger took out the thermostat before replacing the water pump that leaked fixed the leak no leak drove the truck about 10 minutes guages were barely reading above cold and the radiator hose blew apart and my oil guage started having seizures today
I'm having those issues on my sons 2000 Ford ranger 4.0..I can't wait to change it..a garage told me it was my head gaskets n said I need a new engine. But when I drive it like u said 20min into the reserve cap pops open n it seems its always full while the radiator looses fluids, so can't wait to try this, thank u. N there was no wind sound with ur video ;)
Please let me know how it goes! I really hope this fix works for you and your son. The 4.0 can be a good engine, but they can be expensive to repair or replace.
Hey dude get this tester for the next time you think you have a blown head gasket. It will save you on guessing. Block Tester BT-500 Combustion Leak Test Kit - Made in USA
@austincarr5441 @mrjeep75 ever figure this out? I got a refurbished jasper engine last year, new thermostat this year, new water pump when the engine got swapped. And now I'm still overheating if my heats not on full blast.
Hi why does the expansion tank gets full and never returns coolant back to radiator? After every drive the overflow tank is full.. but even with head gasket bad it should still return though
I would think the expansion tank would go back down even with a bad head gasket as the pressure returns to normal. I filled the coolant system by removing the line from the heater core and filling it that way since it is the highest point in the system.
Hey so my 03 ranger with the 3.0 was overheating. Same symptoms you were having, one cool morning I was taking my son to school, the temp shot up to the red and dropped immediately. I swapped the thermostat and it is overheating still, and I’m getting boiling water on the reservoir and it’s also shooting water out of the reservoir cap. What could it be?
I have an 01 ranger 3.0 V6. I replaced the fan clutch, water pump, & thermostat. It's still running hot. Drives like a dream but it runs hot. Is it my head gasket?
It could best thing to do is check compression and test the coolant system for its rated pressure too. The 3.0 V6 is a much easier engine to rebuild then the 4.0 V6 SOHC that was in mine. But, i would check the pressure test first then go from there.
See ya at 12 tomorrow
You are doing a great job Austin.
I love way that when you explain things and show how it's done, you don't over complicate things.

Quick way to check your thermostat is to put it in a pot of boiling water on the stove it'll open up
Knew that but forgot about it over the years, nice find, hope that cures all of your problems, for a long time.👍👍👍❤️😃

My 99 is antifreeze over flow tank boils and over fills. No smoke. But does have lose of power. Idk what’s going on
Had a guy replace the elbow somthing to do with the thermostat. But he messes a wire up and my gague doesn’t work

@@Topher_1551 look at your radiator cap, it’s pretty rare, but if it’s cracked or it doesn’t hold any pressure, it could be causing your problem

What a great story Austin. You are doing a good job.

Man mine is doing the same thing but it’s the3.0. No smoke. But is getting hot and antifreeze is bubbling back in the tank.
Thanks I had forgotten about the termoster
Nice to see the outro does look cool makes your channel stand out 👍👍
Omg i can't wait to go buy a thermostat. I'm so hoping its not a head gasket lol..very nice vid

Yes I have had that hope to me not just on a Ford but others

My Ranger is doing this. This might be the answer! Thanks!
A mechanic shop said it was head gasket but didn't tell me what head gasket it was..weird

Any kind of mechanic I think would have checked the thermostat first before pulling the heads off
