    Who would have guessed that selling the best two players in the fittest team in the league, buying half a dozen players from minor European leagues, and then letting the team's fitness drop to 70% could have negative consequences?

    • @starmersbarber
      @starmersbarber ปีที่แล้ว +7

      If the fitness has dropped to 70%, surely the player's wages should also drop to 70%. There is no excuse for these players not to be supremely tuned athletes. They are just wee boys without proper leadership.

    This is a perfectly "Leeds" thing to do! It's been coming and there are many factors. The Titanic didn't sink because it hit an Iceberg, it was the 10 mistakes before that caused it to hit!
    I see people in general blaming the 49s, Radz and especially Orta which I totally agree with but what about Bielsa?
    Look into history in Latin America and even Spain and you will read about "Bielsa Burnout" which is physical and mental tiredness. Add to this a squad of "Championship"players, playing above their level to finish 9th ( without fans).
    My one big question is WHY the squad wasn't overhauled in June/ July 2021 or January 22? Were the 49s/ Orta undermining Bielsa? Or was Bielsa happy to continue with these players? 7 started vs West Ham yesterday. Bielsa always said that signings would come in ONLY if they were better than what we have and I don't think he would have stayed after the windows of the 21/22 season if he didn't get what he wanted.

      @@tanyajacobs9974 Debt free was bad phrasing, I forgot that’s how transfers are done now. I should have said “basically debt free in the grand scheme of things.” Factor in Phillips and Raphinha and we will owe about £100m over 5 years. We can recoup most of that by selling Harrison and Meslier. The wage bill drops by 55% so from £120m that’s £54m which is exactly the same as our last Championship turnover. This time we have £45m in parachute payments on top of that. The money from player sales is straight in the back pocket and knocks the wage bill down even further.

    Glad that s*** is over, now...Priority number one has to be to get rid of Bamford. He alone cost Leeds at least 4 vital points. He's not even a Championship striker. As for the board they didn't learn from the previous season and Leeds have paid dearly for their short sightedness. Also about 4 seasons to fix the striker and left back problems and it was never addressed. How much time did they need? They need to look back and see what worked in the past - A core of older, experienced players surrounded by a wealth of young talent, aka Strachan, McCallister, Speed, Batty. They have the young talent already in the likes of Gnonto (please hang on to him!) and Summerville and call back all the loaners like Gelhardt and Cresswell, players who have some fight and talent. What they now need is to pick up a decent older, experienced striker, midfielder and defender. A striker who can get the ball in the back of the net regularly which is something Bamford fails to do.

      Bamford will guaranteed play in the Premier League again. It's fine to ride him for missing the one chance the team made for him and forget the other chances we squandered --- for instance Summerville missed enough to win the game after coming on as sub -- but other teams will see a good player who can do a great job if fit. And maybe if he's bought by Burnley, they'll actually get him fit.
