Patrick bamford, phillips, cooper , dallas , many of the star players were injured during bielsa reign eventually the team did not perform as much . But leeds would be still in EPL if Bielsa was still there
It's been well documented that the reason we had no players is due to Marcelos high requirements. The players he did want weren't available for the money Leeds were prepared to pay in January and the ones Radz and Orta were after he wasn't interested in. Example: Brendan Aaronsson was sought after in January by Leeds and turned down in that window. No doubt Bielsa got a lot out of an average Championship side, but if we stayed with him Bielsa would have taken us down. How many times were we 3-0 down within 30 mins? It was embarrassing, totally demoralising and there was no sign of change in methods of practicality. The players were completely drained and the injury list was evidence of that. The one on one defending was abysmal from day one and never changed. Finally, even Bielsa has admitted publicly that his methods cannot work with the same group of players after 3-4 years - you either change the manager or get a completely fresh group - there was no chance of the latter, financially impossible, so he had to leave. It was the correct call, even if it was the most painful one. Bielsa fanatics need to get real with the realities of modern day football. Leeds would be in the Championship if it weren't for Radz' cool head and decision making with the sacking.
Yes it was really embarassing at times. To many times. If he could just adapt to the teams we were up against we Would never need to sack him and we Would not have needed to fight to Stay up last season. Now I cant wait for the Southampton game. That has to be another 3 pointer, and I see Aaronsen, Rodrigo and Bamford All scoring This time. Aaronsen is a real good gem we have gotten.
Can you provide me a link for the " well documented" Marcelo refusal . Radz is no different to any other chairman we have had .He just a better looking cleverer version of Ken Bates. He took us up to Prem on chicken feed , all the while gorging on sky cash It showed last January when. He was happy to gamble our survival once it meant he wasn't spending his own cash . All summer now even , zero net spend ,the man is coining it on the back of his ownership , you would swear he's a charity case
@@chrisChris6969 Angus Kinnear has spoken about it at length. Even when we first signed Marcelo there was some worry that his demands (as seen from his time at previous clubs) might not be met at Leeds. You need only look. It was written about everywhere. You say chicken feed. How much did Helder Costa cost? £16m. Bamford? £7m. Douglas? £3m. Kalvin Phillips new deal (thus avoiding a £20m+ from Aston Villa - hardly keeping the purse strings closed is it?). The wage bill under Radz doubled whilst we were in the championship resulting in him pumping £1m a MONTH into the club to cover it. Move to the premier league he spends a net spend over £100m. He bought the club from Cellino for £45m and it now has a market value of over £200m, that is a five times increase. You don't get that if you are constantly pocketing the money. If you consider all that chicken feed, then there's no point continuing this conversation. This year we all knew KP and Raphinha were going to leave. It was either get the money now or let them go for less in a year or even a free. There is no evidence of pocketing the money in any way that makes it look like he's taking the club for a ride - especially when you look at the hundreds of millions the stadium redevelopment is going to take - bet you didn't think of that, did you? Take off your anti-Radz glasses and think practically. I'm not for one second saying he's perfect - the badge redesign was aweful. But he's done something Ken Bates, Cellino, GFH.. all couldn't do, get us to the Prem with a good brand of football and, as i said above, his decision to sack Bielsa, PROVED to be the correct one. Comedy moments listening back to this. 4 mins in he said 'he felt for the fans' yet sacked Bielsa anyhow despite 85% support. Says the players couldn't achieve what Bielsa wanted them to. Hmm, that's because mentally they were EFL players cos you hadn't given him a new midfield since Bielsa arrived at the club, despite him leading the club to a 9th place finish. Rodrigo could not play in mf, Phillips was injured, Dallas was a converted winger, Forshaw's career was over and Klich had lost the legs . . . what were your expectations Radz? Miracles. This interview really sums up how out of touch you were with the situation.
on point m8, bielsa asked for those specific names: de paul, javi galan n nahitan nandez. Maybe De Paul i can understand cos he went to atletico but the others i dont buy it. What I see is that the 49ers wanted to make leeds to be a training club for the US national team for next worldcup there. with their biggest stars n under an american manager to attract the growing american audience n failed miserably.
It was definitely the right decision, you didn't need to be a body language expert to see the team was so tired and totally lacking in confidence. What let MB down most , in my opinion, is the previous summers transfer window. That, for mr, was the start of his downfall, and the injuries just made it worse.

The reality is that there isn't a premier league manager that could have survived with that run of results but also the manner of the defeats. Not even Pep or Klopp would have been given the time that Bielsa was given. It's incredibly sad that it came to that after everything he achieved at Leeds but its a results business.

We hold our position despite Bielsa leaving 💥 The system has brougth us were we are today. Poor interview Rads. Marcelo is the supporters man. We won't forget him.
I see very few people whinge about Radz tbf, there are polls done about how fans feel about their owners, Leeds are always fairly near the top of those. But yes, those that do complain clearly don't remember the last 20 years under the previous two...
Every club has a whiny minority, social media sometimes makes it seem like there's more of them at our club than anywhere else but read other clubs' Tw*tter feeds and you'll find it's all too common.
He clearly has great respect for Bielsa ...I'd have hated to be in his shoes to do that but I wonder if Bielsa understood how hard it was for him to release him? It's obvious in this interview
Whoever the manager was would have found it hard that season, so many top players long term injuries and a very small inexperienced squad, too much when you are in the premier League.
I loved Marcelo but our squad was thin before the injuries last season and he refused to add depth to it despite being offered players to sign. Radz has put his money where his mouth is this summer and I like the vibe that Jesse brings, he may seem like the loveable american but there's a steal there.....I'm excited
You muppet. He was offered, Winks, dele Alli and Van Der Beek.If you have a moron like Orta in charge and a EFL budget, you get offered rubbish. Bielsa understood the game much more than Radz.
To fullfill their potential individually and as a team, young players need a coach who teaches and guides them, inspires them and motivates them constructively. Coaches like Bielsa (disciplinarian non-communicators) cannot understand how important it is to address the emotions of young men of the 21st century. A modern coach needs to build confidence and create a healthy atmosphere in order for players to believe in themselves and one another in order to make a maximum effort to WIN. Of course talent is very important, but teams of slightly lesser talent who believe they can win are much more likely to win against teams slightly more talented. I don't believe the teams that easily defeated Leeds last season will find it so easy this season. I believe the future for Leeds is a bright one.
He speaks complete and utter common sense and echoes my thoughts exactly back in February. The bottom line under bielsa is that we had to work so hard for our goals but didn't make the opponent work hard for theirs. As much as I loved bielsa.... There is no future in that.
Sad, sad, sad....Bielsa is a hero forever, but those results and the overall performances, something needed to change. Marsch is young and hungry...he wants attractive, high tempo football. Yeah, we will concede but we will score as well. I respect his vision, he won some fans by keeping us up, won more by the performance of his signings in pre-season....just got to get the rest of us Jesse, get on it !
No one would hear about Leeds without Bielsa. U where still a forgotten club in championship mid table place with boring football ..U blamed him but U gave him funny players worth nothing!!! And most of them where injured. No one could be better..U forgot he puts us in 9 th place with magic football..
Very difficult- but made the right decision as steward of the club.. Bielsa did a beautiful thing and then- it was time to pass the baton with his legacy of a PL Leeds intact. No shame in that- in fact- the exact opposite. Now to honor that accomplishment- sink the clubs roots in the league and march on- upward- together!
The responsibility was not just Bielsa, bit the players too.... what about the board and their inept recruitment?? Blame everyone else, typical senior manager
Radrizanni knows nothing about football that was probably our best performance of the season, we completely out played Villa just Coutinho scored some worldies. Gerrard even admitted he was outplayed.
You guys say he’s a great owner but realistically he didn’t strengthen the squad for bielsa and his idea’s and tried to cover it up by sacking bielsa, don’t get fooled.
I needed them to ask what is the transfer policy under Biesla? Why did we not further our squad the second summer was it cause of him? If we would of got Aaronson and added depth you never know if Rapha and Kalvin would of extended their contracts. The squad needed a refresher under him.
Intriguing interview obviously was a difficult decision to sack Bielsa but I agree with Radz we were far to easy to play against and Marcelo didn't back down from his way of thinking when we were conceding 4,5,6 and 7! but always thankful to Bielsa for his time there despite how it ended.
Should have backed him, not sacked him. This man made one good decision, bringing Bielsa in amd that's it. Treated a man of honour with total disrespect and trusted Orta over Bielsa.
wow thats quite shocking to me that he started to think about replacing God after a game where the opposition found 3 goals from 4 shots on target and we ended up 3-3... damn
Radrizzani did absolutely correct in firering Bielsa. Those that Still dont see it can think of this: 80% of our squad Would be Gone now and we Would be fighting relegation battle om Championship This season. And they brought in a Great replacement. A man that have proven himself worthy of the Job already. This season we will be Top 10... If we get in another striker. If Bamford is fit This season I see him scoring about 10 goals. Rodrigo seems amazing now. And I think that is a combination of March inn and Raphina Gone.
what about the key players injured and no replacements?? Rad, is easy to talk about tactics and systems with out any of the two friends interviewing you questioning your knowledge and not asking you the right questions or putting ypu in place about how much you know about tactics and why they failed
It's madness how people can even question should radz have sacked bielsa? Of course he should have and in fact he should have done it a month earlier.bielsa is more of a coach than a manager,he's also a 3 year coach at tops.his style depends on 100% intensity with a very small squad but once the intensity drops there is cracks all over bielsa style .you cannot keep conceding 3 goals and expect go score 4.....without a striker!! He was just too stubborn and refused to change.jesse marsch conceded only half the goals in same amount of games and got 1.25 points a game compared to bielsas 0.88 and that's with bielsas own team.my loyalty will always be with my club( its a shame becaus2 marsch deserves more respect) not with a manager who ends up doing a bad job. Chris wilder got Sheffield promotion and top half of table prem first season so is he a world class manager? He did well for a while but then deserved go get sack same as bielsa. Onwards and upwards now.
It's so great to have an owner who give an interview to give his honest feelings. Did he do right or wrong is another issue, but it's so important to understand how he thought and how he took his decision.
I don't even think radz is the main problem, Orta was given way too much control and weaselled himself into Andrea's good graces so he was reluctant to sack his mate. Imagine where we'd have been if they'd given marcelo 100m in the 2nd season to spend rather then buying dan james and hoping for the best 🤦♂️
the problem with bielsa tactic and mindset, its doesnt work on longterm, like mourinho is shorterm project, when it doesnt work for him its absolute dreadfull,he was taking Lille down (nearly same team that won the league season after ) ,he was taking leeds down,
The truth is that the club had discussions with Marsch already in December, or even earlier. Plus the fact that nothing was spent on new players despite so many injuries. Sooner or later MB would have to move on, but the way it was handled was not correct.
He always had a year contract. They had to speak to other managers so as to be prepared in case he didnt renew his contract. Its called covering your back! Makes good business sense. Bielsa just left a few months earlier than planned. Nothing sinister here!
Absolutely bull shit. Bielsa is the best manager we've had for years. Radz has repeated what some fans thought. The truth is he failed to buy or loan players in January and with so many players injured, we were struggling. Bielsa should have had a proper far well and made honorary club president for life.
He speaks like a manager more than a owner of the club. Like the details of every match, tactics that was not working. Rarely u find a owner with that much football knowledge. I bet the american owners wouldnt have a clue about the game all they would know is their team lost, won or drew
Overall respect to Radrizzani. It feels weird to me that he said Bielsa didn’t expect to get sacked…I feel like it’s bad leadership to fire somebody with absolutely no warning. But, the results show he made the right decision. So again, respect to him
Mr president, can tell us about your choice of J. Marsch? An unknown, law rate and unsuccessful American. Were you dictated by 49ers to have?. He has only coached teams owned by them. Isn't that a big risk taking?
remember the days when we went from one nutjob owner to the next ... then we got rads and everyone was oh shit not another italian madman ... then he went about changing everything about the club the culture .. the fans ..got the club back on a sound financial footing ... and hired bielsa .. like what the hell ... last season a lot of ppl say well we had half a team injured ... they got injured because he overtrained the shit out of them which makes them more suseptable to picking up injures ... and he never had a plan B ...and he insisted on a comically small squad ... you cant play in the PL with a squad that small ..tbh rads sacked him off at the right time and jesse pulled off mission impossible
As a Chelsea fan bielsa annoyed me purely because he was here for such a long time and still couldnt speak English. He used that little croney interpreter to translate for him. I know Leeds fans would hate that after a defeat. He had no respect to learn the English language. End result was the sack.

Patrick bamford, phillips, cooper , dallas , many of the star players were injured during bielsa reign eventually the team did not perform as much . But leeds would be still in EPL if Bielsa was still there
Yeah they were injured cuz of bielsa high training demand
He took us up to Prem on chicken feed , all the while gorging on sky cash
It showed last January when.
Or would you rather we get ol' Batesy back?
@@reddeadbret4218 so that will be a no then on factual links
Boris also said there was no parties at no 10 ,.
Guess what ???
You are also incorrect on your value , at the Lisbon web conference a few months ago ,he stated in interview the club is now worth probably 400 million .
Also you seem to forget the 37 million " stationery " costs he trousered soon after buying the club .
1million £ a month !!!! I am sick to the back teeth of that 1 . How much did he get from the covid state fund to keep the business going ?????
A lot of cash .
The man is creaming it ,be under no illusion .
Also we were 1 game away from the drop last season , 1
He ridiculously came out with his Adam Forshaw comment ,rather than buy a player or 3 in the Jan window .
You also negated to mention the cash he received for getting into the PL , why is that ?
Because it doesn't suit your Andrea Nightingale narrative .
I have no problem with the man making shit loads of cash , but what I do have an issue with is apologists like you portraying him as some other worldly saint .
He's MADE +WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE MILLIONS, from his initial relatively small investment.
It's the name of the game
I watch every leeds game nd I'll u what?? D reason why leeds weren't doing well was coz of too many injuries nd injuries paid d price not to mention due to injuries bielsa changed many positions making players playing on their wrong positions nd yah again he brought about 6 young players from D youth team,... Still won't know if with leeds bielsa would have survived
This interview(s) was amazing, I hope that The Athletic is able to do more of them!
Very good interview. It is nice for an owner to be more honest about club dealings with fans.
this post hasnt aged well ... radz is a chancer at best
Never understood the hate for radz. He has made mistakes and had a near shock with relegation. But he is the best owner we have had at the club. And got us back to premier League. I do wish he would push more on transfers, but we not a super rich club, but a few more signings are needed.
spent the 5th most in Europe so far.
Ask him about Myanmar think not
this post hasnt aged well ...Radz is a chancer possibly worse
Radrizzani got us back to the Premier League only to throw it all away three years later. How can you think he's the best owner we've ever had?
Name the training ground after him. Fantastic tribute
That also contributed to the weakening of the team due to moving rb to cb ,midfielder to rb, instead of trusting the U23’s in those positions
@@adjjackson9331 the same u23s that got hammered by Crawley in the cup??
Great insights. What an interview. Well played Athletic.
Bielsa in World Cup final winning 1-0 would still push 10 men up in 90th min . He done a good job getting Leeds back cheers
We have a good owner, he made a strategic decision.
Bielsa will be regarded as a Leeds legend forever.
M.O.T.
Bielsa is not a legend.
Very good Interview from Radz Very honest. Not always been a fan of his because of his mistakes, But without his investment we wouldn't be in the EPL.
Radrizzani a chairman becomming fan , Ridsdale a fan becomming chairman, 2 différent way to run our club.
To anyone who thinks Radz didn't understand Bielsa or that Bielsa should have stayed just look at the players morale now compared to just before Bielsa was sacked. We still love him but that speaks for itself
Kalvin Raph Klich Harrison Morale is flying 🤦🏽♂️
@@bielsaball8443 Harrison? Rapha and Kalvin aren't part of Leeds... And Klich is just upset he's not gonna get as much game time - understandable but the squad needed upgrading
The players morale was on the floor before the Brentford game in the promotion season too.
@@bielsaball8443 yes the team's morale is certainly flying, especially Harrison ..
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Nice to hear they are going to rename Thorpe Arch after Bielsa.
Agreed, that seemed to be his summer project every season while everyone was away. I'm pretty sure the improvements made were also promised every season when he signed his contract.
Thought we were moving to a training ground nearer Elland Road
@@rwalton159 Have a listen to the Square Ball podcast interview with Angus, goes into the developments around Thorpe Arch, etc.
@@rwalton159 that got cancelled as the club wants to expand capacity and they can't afford to do both at the same time. The expansion of the stadium would also mean that a different project that was planned for Fullerton has had to be cancelled. The reality is that there isn't a premier league manager that could have survived with that run of results but also the manner of the defeats. Not even Pep or Klopp would have been given the time that Bielsa was given. It's incredibly sad that it came to that after everything he achieved at Leeds but its a results business.
I agree. just didnt understand why Bielsa didnt adapt like he did in 2020/21 after we got hammered at Old Trafford 6-2 I think we did play more counter attacking in the second half of that season and proof was in the pudding we got results against the big clubs
Just wanted to add, if you have a subscription to The Athletic then have a read through Phil's article covering this interview. There's more questions covered that didn't get released with the videos. Also have a listen to the Square Ball podcast interview with Angus.
Brilliant interview and Radz really has done wonders for the club. Made difficulty decisions, taken risks, put his money where his mouth is and has been honest to the fan base. He deserves respect and congratulations.
We hold our position despite Bielsa leaving 💥 The system has brougth us were we are today. Poor interview Rads. Marcelo is the supporters man. We won't forget him.

But hey Ho, history is written by victors.
Leeds fans whinge about him/owners but my god they have short memories!
Spot on. Football fans in general are fickle but we should hold him in the same light as bielsa imo

Victor Orta, I salute you.
Radz I salute your vision to employ Victor.
Whatever Andrea did was the right thing for our Great club >> & that is what he did full stop... MOT
Whoever the manager was would have found it hard that season, so many top players long term injuries and a very small inexperienced squad, too much when you are in the premier League.
Marcelo bielsa stadium that’s what we need.
@@davidmarkaldridge9546 Yeah 6 months is a fast time in football and we've gone backwards...I am glad Marsch was sacked.
I believe the future for Leeds is a bright one.
how do you know what young men of the 22nd century will be like? lol
He speaks complete and utter common sense and echoes my thoughts exactly back in February.
The bottom line under bielsa is that we had to work so hard for our goals but didn't make the opponent work hard for theirs. As much as I loved bielsa....
There is no future in that.
Awesome vid, clearly a very passionate and dedicated owner
Refreshing to see an owner who is transparent with his thought processes
Sad, sad, sad....Bielsa is a hero forever, but those results and the overall performances, something needed to change. Marsch is young and hungry...he wants attractive, high tempo football. Yeah, we will concede but we will score as well. I respect his vision, he won some fans by keeping us up, won more by the performance of his signings in pre-season....just got to get the rest of us Jesse, get on it !
Very poignant and honest interview. This is Fútbol! Bielsa has forever changed LEEDS. March on BOYS…Marshe on BOYZ!
The board backed him all the way!! Bielsa at fault for not wanting to strengthen.
Radrizanni knows nothing about football that was probably our best performance of the season, we completely out played Villa just Coutinho scored some worldies. Gerrard even admitted he was outplayed.
As a Leeds fan, why do people dislike him. If he had money, he would spend it. I wish we could do more for him!
We've just gone down while he was attempting to buy another club. He does have money but he let Orta waste it on crap players
this is a good guy. You can't say that of many owners.
to be able to convince Bielsa to join Leeds, is already a huge achievement.
Ask Radz and Orta
Intriguing interview obviously was a difficult decision to sack Bielsa but I agree with Radz we were far to easy to play against and Marcelo didn't back down from his way of thinking when we were conceding 4,5,6 and 7! but always thankful to Bielsa for his time there despite how it ended.
Should have backed him, not sacked him. This man made one good decision, bringing Bielsa in amd that's it.
Treated a man of honour with total disrespect and trusted Orta over Bielsa.
wow thats quite shocking to me that he started to think about replacing God after a game where the opposition found 3 goals from 4 shots on target and we ended up 3-3... damn
He said it wasn't just the result, it was how the players were, the mood in the training ground etc.
@@bravo2966 yeah mate, im aware :D but still, that result, based on numbers, was unlucky, oh well its in the past now aint it? :D
We shouldn't even be thinking about the past and Marco now it's a new era
I can get on board with the sacking. Just treat him better . No need for leaks . Show him the respect he deserved
Great interview. He should have gone after the man City game though.
Bielsa didnt want anyone. End of!
One of the best interviews i have ever watched.
Fascinating that Andrea is saying pretty much what all "fair & reasonable" Leeds fans say.
Bang on!!
Really! Yet our main forum had Bielsa with 85% support at the time of being sacked.

It's so great to have an owner who give an interview to give his honest feelings. Did he do right or wrong is another issue, but it's so important to understand how he thought and how he took his decision.
I loved Bielsa but something had to change, we were getting hammered nearly every week and I think the players had lost some respect for him.

I will feel justified when the fans sack Radrizzani. ... Loyalty of an italian!
the problem with bielsa tactic and mindset, its doesnt work on longterm, like mourinho is shorterm project,
when it doesnt work for him its absolute dreadfull,he was taking Lille down (nearly same team that won the league season after ) ,he was taking leeds down,
The truth is that the club had discussions with Marsch already in December, or even earlier.
Wow, a team OWNER who isn't afraid to face the media talk football and actually show a passion and love for his/her club.
No he did not, short term no...long term definitely no...I say if had the money he wouldn't have...but he didn't he bottled it!
Not sure why he's not talking to his own video media team? Strange.
Absolutely bull shit.
Bielsa is the best manager we've had for years.
Radz has repeated what some fans thought. The truth is he failed to buy or loan players in January and with so many players injured, we were struggling.
Bielsa should have had a proper far well and made honorary club president for life.
Love how he slips in a bit of self indulgent hate on Villa. Really hope leeds get relegated. Shame it didnt happen last season.
GRAZIE!!!!
He speaks like a manager more than a owner of the club. Like the details of every match, tactics that was not working.
Rarely u find a owner with that much football knowledge. I bet the american owners wouldnt have a clue about the game
all they would know is their team lost, won or drew
Bielsa is god .

Yes!
remember the days when we went from one nutjob owner to the next ... then we got rads and everyone was oh shit not another italian madman ... then he went about changing everything about the club the culture .. the fans ..got the club back on a sound financial footing ... and hired bielsa .. like what the hell ... last season a lot of ppl say well we had half a team injured ... they got injured because he overtrained the shit out of them which makes them more suseptable to picking up injures ... and he never had a plan B ...and he insisted on a comically small squad ... you cant play in the PL with a squad that small ..tbh rads sacked him off at the right time and jesse pulled off mission impossible
No way should Thorpe arch be named after him. Wilkinson set it up.and won the league..ffs.
As a Chelsea fan bielsa annoyed me purely because he was here for such a long time and still couldnt speak English. He used that little croney interpreter to translate for him. I know Leeds fans would hate that after a defeat. He had no respect to learn the English language. End result was the sack.
Marsch is s very lucky manager just what you need in relegation battle but not if you want to break into Europe
