I took my Mju 1 to NYC in June for two weeks and shot a couple rolls of Portra 400 and they came out great! Honestly although the contax has a couple of slightly better features, no matter how rich you are it really isn't worth paying 6 times the amount. The difference just isn't worth the money and you could spend that on other camera gear
Because of the flash, the mju is constantly underexposed by half a stop. Check out 1:45 The flash on the cart in mju is quite visible and notice how the building in the background is blown out in the t2 and perfectly balanced in the mju. I know the flash has to be turned off everytime but then you will really see how less the difference is
I visited NYC during the winter holidays and used my Contax T2 with portra 400 for the first time, and honestly it was by far the best roll of photos I’ve taken in a longggg time. I love the T2 so much
Thank you so much for comparing them with the same actual pictures!!! Way too many "comparisons" on youtube compare completely different scenes, which is almost useless
thanks that's what i was hoping for - no i've actually stopped scanning my 35mm film. Traveling a lot right now and my epson v550 takes me forever to get through a couple rolls so i just use the lab. But if you want a good tip, ask the lab tech to scan the files in .bmp or .tiff instead of .jpg, it's the closest thing to RAW files we can get and usually doesn't cost too much more (if they're cool)
Josh David Sweet that’s actually a helpful idea. I scan myself on the V600 but I’ll be away from it all summer too so I’ll defs ask the lab to scan into .tiff. I really dig your videos man, hope to see more film-related stuff from you
I have the T2 and was lucky to have purchased back in 2012 for $250. Came with box and carry pouch too. I love it. Exposure compensation and aperture priority are a must for me who wants more control over exposure. Probably wouldn’t pay more than $500 for this camera though unless I had extra $ to burnt. The one thing that would drive me nut is a camera that misses focus too much.
I've been shooting with the Mju I for about a year and although it's a huge upgrade from the plastic lens point and shoots brands are putting out today, I am disappointed with the autofocus. Also, I didn't realize I had purchased the version which comes with a panorama mode and I sometimes accidentally slide it over cause the slider is loose and ruin my photos with the panorama mode which just cuts off the top and bottom haha. Do you have a recommendation for a camera similar in price point to the Mju I and also fits into a pocket easily? Eventually when I have the money to drop on the T2 I will, hopefully the price goes down for it but I doubt it!
My ideal full auto camera would be the MJU II Lens for the size contribution to the overall camera, Contax’s auto focus system and the Olympus XA metering system.
Overall I prefer the Olympus, why? Well the design still looks good, it didn't look as dated as the Contax, which looks a bit clunky and dated. The small compact, pocketable size, the simplicity and ease of use, no settings to mess with or confuse. This means whatever the situation, you're always just a quick slide of the front cover away from a quick shot. The weather resistance is always a nice feature and a welcome bonus, not many cameras seem to be able to boast that?
I've got an original Mju and there's no way in hell I'd buy the T2 over it today. The Contax T2, although a great camera, is so highly sought after now that its price has been WAY inflated beyond what I'd ever spend on a film compact. Maybe a few years ago I'd pay for one, or if it was going to be my primary camera I might. I'll stick to my Mju. It fits in my pocket and has a plenty good lens for the $3 I paid for it.
Great video bro. I'll just say though by keeping the flash on for every shot you took with olympus may seem harmless but its bouncing off your hand and effecting the photo, this is why the results are skewed sometimes. Obviously the t2 is far superior but I know that the mju doesn't take shots that turn out this badly... Keep up the sick videos!
at 1:46 you probably had a car with headlights on coming by in that street next to you when you took the mju pic and that's why the olympus mju picture came out so different
I think the Olympus looked better in most of the shots and would have looked even better if you turn the flash off. I'm glad to see I got my money's worth when I bought one in a thrift store for like $5.
Ontisitse Manyeneng but the same type of film was used, and colors still came out different. For sure it’s mainly the film but the camera will have some influence on the result too. If it didn’t, then it doesnt matter which camera we use
Wow the Olympus ones are fire! So how do you get the digital copies since it has film? When you get them developed, can they just put them on a USB drive?
Yes when you take to a lab they will process and then scan the film for you, or you can take the film home and scan yourself, which is generally what i do
I own and use both the t2 and mju 2. The Contax retailed for $1200 20 years ago, so $800 for the best compact film camera money can buy its still a bargain IMHO. If it was still made you'd be paying upwards of $2k. In saying that I only shoot it when I know it wont get damaged, as it will one day soon be literally irreplaceable. The mju2 for $150 does my hunting/camping/nature shots and keeps on truckin.
Current prices in 2022 are $1,500 vs $100. For the price of the Contax I got the Mju 1 + Pentax Super MX + takumar 50 mm F1.4 + helios 44 + mirrorles ricoh gr iii... 😂 😂 😂
I've got an MJU II, its great for fitting in my pocket but the T2 just edges it on quality for me. I've just shot a video on shooting expired Kodak Tri-X film, have got any experience/tips on shooting expired film? :)
Very cool! Yea honestly I probably wouldn't even buy the Contax T2 with how high the prices have gotten, the MJU II is fire. Tips for expired film is just mess around with it lol, if it's super expired you're gunna get a foggy image, but black and white generally keeps pretty well. If anything just expose it maybe a stop or half stop brighter than normal.
I had the MJU II as my first p&s a year ago. I dreamed about it, but when I found it a reasonable price I was immediately disappointed! Super tiny viewfinder, the flash goes on everytime you start the camera, autofocus dumb af and you can't understand where it will be focus. The photos from my bachelor degree were awful, 80% out of focus. Now I'm using a Nikon L35AF, a lot bulkier, a lot more basic, but I'm enjoying it a lot more!
this was a quality effing video. and for that I thank you. also, contax t2 alll the wayyy. dont eat out for a while lol or don't buy clothes or something.
4:43 the Olympus fill flash is noticeable. I don’t vibe that aesthetic. If you just cover it with electrical tape, it will underexposed, or just be fine?
You could but there's also a button on top to change the flash setting - I didn't do that though because I wanted to show both cameras shooting quickly/in auto
i bought it on a flea market close to my house, the camera was a bit faulty but i know how to fix some electronics just fixed it and sold it for 600 bucks. if its fully working, u paid the just for the camera, more than that don't worth if u aren't rich.
The Minilux will break sooner than later and is impossible to repair now. Hexar is so big you might as well have a Leica. Nikon 28ti meters phenomenally but has a tendency to miss focus from what I've seen. Contax T2 is phenomenal but costs a fortune. if you've got the money I'd go for the T2 though. nah wanted to give real comparison of them on full auto, even if that's kinda dumb still useful and then yea couldnt control that - you can't see through the lens while you shoot... and i got big hands
Can’t wrap my head around why people pay these prices for the T2. It’s genuinely not a better camera than the mju. Especially not better than Nikons L35AF. Just different styles…
Those prices are dumb as fuck.. Who wants to pay 100 (and more) for a freaking p&s lmao? I don't even have 600 for a medium format... Personally, if I had a hundred to spend, i would def buy a SLR camera and not a point and shoot. You can find canon AE-1 for exemple with a regular 50mm at 1.8 for that price. Are you seriously willing to break the bank for a 2.8 lens on an auto camera ? Quite sad imo... I own 4 p&s : one espio 90mc, one autoboy 2, a mju zoom 105 and a mju I. I got each of them for 20 euros or less.. I would seriously never pay more than 50 euros on a p&s you have almost no control over (oh and by the way, i see all these youtubers missing the focus on their mju... you guys need to use the focus lock/pré focus...) but i mean waste your money if the hype is worth it to you
Which cam would you choose?
Josh David if i had the money the t2 but for now my mju I is more then enough
Were they both shooting with flash?
I'm feeling the Olympus. I like the deep contrast of the photo.
Can it go deeper
Olympus indeed
throwback to when you could find the t2 for less than $800.... thanks kendall jenner
lol rt man
fr though, its nice that film photography is becoming a bnit popular again, but everything is becoming so pricey these days
If you didn’t already have less than warm feelings for influencers. Exhibit A: Contax T2 prices.
I don´t know why, but i like Olympus pics more :)

yea that's what always bugged me - I try to get almost the same photo but depending on the subject (people/cars/animals) that's sometimes hard
Josh David Yeah no I think you did a great job on getting the same photo, it was great to see them side by side. Did you scan them yourself?
thanks that's what i was hoping for - no i've actually stopped scanning my 35mm film. Traveling a lot right now and my epson v550 takes me forever to get through a couple rolls so i just use the lab. My biggest question is how did you get a Contax T2 for only $600..
Alana Yao! her insta is @alannayao
That's quite high! The usual price going for is USD400-500 in fb groups. But I got mine for USD220.
could you point me toward those
not anymore. I am in fb groups too and they now go for 700-1000 depending on the colour. Ebay is even worse
quesera hi! What fb group are you talking about?
I have the T2 and was lucky to have purchased back in 2012 for $250. Came with box and carry pouch too. I love it. Exposure compensation and aperture priority are a must for me who wants more control over exposure. Probably wouldn’t pay more than $500 for this camera though unless I had extra $ to burnt. yah no not worth the current price but a great camera
how is it holding up? :)
I really like the colors and look of the mji
I've been shooting with the Mju I for about a year and although it's a huge upgrade from the plastic lens point and shoots brands are putting out today, I am disappointed with the autofocus. I'd love to see a T2 v Yashica T4 video. I've got the t4 and its an absolutely love p&s, prices are still reasonable too.
If I can get my hands on one I will
Good luck getting a T2 at $600 these days
My ideal full auto camera would be the MJU II Lens for the size contribution to the overall camera, Contax’s auto focus system and the Olympus XA metering system.
in a perfect world

Idk, I think the contax design feels more premium and it’s smooth.
@@Pj_901 Cost is also another factor.
Marvelous work.....indeed........lovely comparison......my favorite......one Mju series......I own Mju ii and Mju120...
last week i bought a mju i with a pretty good condition, and working all normal for only $54
Solid find I'm on the lookout everytime I see cheap film cameras in stores
i got a mju i for $4 and a mju ii for $40... in the same day lol thrifting around town
lucky
Nice! I got mine for 10 DKK (1.5 USD)

i found mine for $4 at goodwill! love it. the mju ii is great as well. for about 160-180. the t2 is great, but way overpriced right now

i think it was the flash settings!
Allot of the photos you took with the MJU looked better than the T2. Impressive!
my only question is, why do I like the Olympus more than the Contax?
8amfilms because exposures are big darker? Contax looks to overexpose compared to the Olympus. But maybe the exposure compensation was on.
Wow, the Olympus' pictures are really cool. I must find one.
do it ebay is like $100 or local thrift maybe $20
Beautiful shots! Great flow.
Nice video comparison! It's a tough call - depends on how much you'll be using either.
thanks! yea it's just how you use each camera, both are great
I think the Olympus looked better in most of the shots and would have looked even better if you turn the flash off. I'm glad to see I got my money's worth when I bought one in a thrift store for like $5.
Those contax tones thoughh. Ughhh but so expensive!!!
Actually, the tones are of the type of film (Kodak Portra) and not the camera...

alright.
@kendalljenner ur fault
This camera work makes me feel seasick
Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for meeee
not sure about what you meant by the viewfinder is fuzzy.... my mju i is great! of course the viewfinder is small, but mine is sharp!
Wow the Olympus ones are fire! So how do you get the digital copies since it has film? When you get them developed, can they just put them on a USB drive?

zeiss glass is always much cooler, the Olympus has a warmer feel ...good video dudes
appreciate the support
Does mju shoot good portrait pics too?
it's not bad but i'd suggest getting an slr
Not your best bet, can miss focus very easily so I personally wouldn't rely on it
Well I guest both of this camera has its own unique character.
T2 feel more soften , natural & more tone , mju1 hard tone , more contrast.
the price how Contax get to be so expensive now is ridiculous.
yea it's pretty bad rn, i've seen them up to $1300, which is not worth it/super ridiculous
because a famous korean singer used it once in public
Multiple celebrities have showed off the camera and fans are driving the price up.
of coarse the contax is better! You got a Carl Zeiss lens on it!
Current prices in 2022 are $1,500 vs $100. For the price of the Contax I got the Mju 1 + Pentax Super MX + takumar 50 mm F1.4 + helios 44 + mirrorles ricoh gr iii... 😂 😂 😂

really good comparison, I think the $500 difference might be worth it.. If I ever have that much extra money haha
What’s a good film for night time ?
can you do a review of some super cheap cameras??
probably will be doing disposables soon
welcome back dude!!
thank you!
Ayyy solid video
Man I wish I could get a t2 for $600. It’s pretty much doubled!! I wish I came into film sooner!!!
Ayy at Little Dark Age at the end! Good choice haha
Is there much difference in quality between fixed and zoom versions
yeah the focus sucks on the mju1. id like to see the t2 vs the mju2/epic stylus.
really it's that much better on the mju2? i thought they didn't really improve the autofocus between them, but ill have to try it out
Josh David yep it's a lot better. And it has a much sharper lens as well.
i might have to get one then, the size is super nice
I had the MJU II as my first p&s a year ago. I dreamed about it, but when I found it a reasonable price I was immediately disappointed! Super tiny viewfinder, the flash goes on everytime you start the camera, autofocus dumb af and you can't understand where it will be focus.

haha yea but interesting! what if our trash changes in 20 years
Contax. Better range of tones. But it's pricey, yet for a serious photog... that's ok. Cha-ching.
Now the T2 is over $1,000
😂
DAMN I need a contaxt2
George Steve ok, but do you know why you need it?
That wont help your lack of photography skills....
Darren Davenport due have a Flickr account or similar?
i got a contax t2 for 1 dollar, and its a great camera but dont worth more than 100/150 bucks.

I got an original T for $2.50

damn, really? I got mine for like 160 and thought it was a steal. crazy luck to find one for $1. when was that, and where?
i bought it on a flea market close to my house, the camera was a bit faulty but i know how to fix some electronics just fixed it and sold it for 600 bucks. if its fully working, u paid the just for the camera, more than that don't worth if u aren't rich.
certain photos I like the olympus other photos I like the contax

Contax t2, hexar AF, Nikon 28ti, or Leica minilux ahhh i can't choose!! sb help!!🤣
t2 or minilux imo
Thx👍 love your vdo keep it coming!
Out of the four it'll give you the least hassle.
pretty much agree with all of that
This camera work makes me dizzyyyyyy
The t3 tho is the real banger.
it is fire
This. Too bad they go for Leica money these days. You can legit pick up an M3 body for less.
*though
Everyone saying how the t2 exploded in price but mju 1 used to be 100$🤡🤡🤡🤡
dope vid!
Kendall jenner should see this lol
I really hope you didn’t pay 100$ I got mine for 2£

当然选择T2,但每年都在涨价。
还是一个很棒的相机

You are supposed to cancel the flash on the mju EVERY TIME you start the camera!
Otherwise images may look funky/underexposed.
Also, you are placing your fingers where all of the camera's sensors are... @4:44
nah wanted to give real comparison of them on full auto, even if that's kinda dumb still useful
and then yea couldnt control that - you can't see through the lens while you shoot... and i got big hands

not into this comment sorry - they make dope videos!!
Smella Berry sure.... if you dont know much about photography....
Portra 400 is for basic bros & it's super boring
nah its a great film, also good for comparisons since it's got average colors/tones
Do you shoot it all with flash on?
