    Cute baby :) I've had my Oly Mju 1 since 1997 (my dad bought it for me as my first real camera when I was 13). I just shot it last month at Disney World with my two daughters, hope it never dies. Loaded up the Kodak Gold 200 and felt like a dad from the mid 1990s lol

    Hello there! I’ve seen your vlog about the olympus mju, just wondering. Coz I got the same one. What battery or brand of battery do you use? So I shot like 11 shots the other day then after 3/4 days the battery runs out. I was thinking its because of the flash, do you normally use flash? Thanks and Godbless

    • @JTobiason
      @JTobiason  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh. That's really strange. I don't have that camera anymore, so I can't check it. But, I usually just us the Energizer Lithium (link below) for my point & shoot cameras. I would say I usually get 20-40 rolls per battery (and that is even with a lot of flash). Honestly, I probably just change them once a year (and just leave a spare in every bag/luggage I own so I can have it if needed while traveling).

    Hey Joe,
    Just found your video, also found a yashica t4 in my moms closet. I shoot digital video mostly, on a pocket4 and have a lot of gear, but I am a bit intruiged by a analogue + digital workflow.
    May I ask, for someone like me who is not looking to do professional analogue photography, is buying a scanner and scanning developed films a rabbit hole or still a worthwhile hobby?
    Would it be possible for me, to maybe get the films developed cheaper and not use the best scanner? How much do you pay for developing a roll of film?
    I liked your videos and you got my follow.
    best wishes.

    • @clemmentalo4820
      @clemmentalo4820 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should look into scanning with a dslr, it's a cheaper investment than a dedicated scanner and can provide even better results

    • @JTobiason
      @JTobiason  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! It is a fun, but also time consuming hobby. The developing definitely will save you in the long run. But, you have to ask yourself how many rolls you'll be going through. You can get the development tools for about $100 and a scanner can be $200-400 (Clement is right though, if you already have a DSLR, you can scan with that and it might be cheaper). So, with I'd say you're looking at $300 before you even start. But, once you've done that, I can develop about 25 rolls per kit of development chemicals, bringing it down to about $1 per roll. In that, it'd take about 33 rolls to break even. I do a few hundred a year, so it makes sense, but if you're just going to shoot a dozen rolls per year, I'd say just get them developed by a great lab like The Darkroom or Indie Film Lab.

    • @JTobiason
      @JTobiason  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea definitely. If you already have a DSLR and a macro lens, then that is an easy way to go.

    Hey Joe, great video! I only yesterday found out that there was a market for the old point and shoots and it led me here. I recently picked up an EOS 300 for £20 and it is absolutely fantastic! I thought about getting a point and shoot for an always with me camera - but the MJU ii with the 2.8 lens is £200! I am not sure I can justify 10 times the amount for the space saving. Do you know of any other point and shoots with exposure compensation/fast lenses? Thanks Pete

    • @JTobiason
      @JTobiason  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Peter! Sorry for my slow response. That's the million dollar question (or more accurately, the $200 question). I don't know of any cheap P&S cameras that have exposure compensation. But, since film is best over exposed a little, you can hack the film canisters themselves. I sand off the DX code and then use nail polish to re-paint it with whatever ISO I want the film to be. I've also seen people just put tape over the DX codes on the canisters and most cameras default to ISO 100. So, if you're shooting 200 film, it'd over expose by 1 stop, which is probably what you want. Hope that helps.

      Accept that the price on the Oly is currently driven by social media hype and has absolutely nothing to do with its inherent quality or ability to take a good photo. It is hypster jewelry, not a quality camera.

    I wonder if you have heard of a country called Greece? They use a different alphabet there, instead of the Roman one. The twelfth letter of that alphabet is 'mu', 'mju'. In the SI system of measurement it is used as the abbreviation for the prefix 'micro' -- in other words it denotes very small things. This is the reason the camera was given it's name, because the camera is a small(-ish) thing. I suggest that the pronunciation you might be expected to use in most of the world is not "em-joo", but the more usual "myoo".

      Thanks for worrying about her safety. But I've done a fair amount of research on that (I mean, she's the daughter of a photographer, so she's going to be photographed a lot) and the general consenus of pediatricians is that it really isn't dangerous. Just like adults, the pupils would close up and protect the iris. Stay safe!

    There really is a huge difference between the two cameras, which he doesn't seem to appreciate. The reason for a camera to exist is to take pictures. the better the imaging results, the better the camera. The Oly is about one step up from a disposable camera. It's never going to give you a sharp image, no matter where you go. The Yashica T4 is about one step down form a Contax T2. If all you plan to do is get a set of 3x5 inch prints out of the usage, it doesn't make any difference what you use, because you won't see the difference. In truth, you won't bother to look or give a hoot. People who seek out the Oly are looking to join some hipster group. The ridiculous prices they pay for it are really just a club initiation fee.

    These cameras are over priced,they only went for 100.$ new years ago,sent a konica a4 for a repair more than one half the price of the camera.

      Yea. Things are wild now. When I made this video, the MJU-1 was under $100 and the T4 was about $300. Which seemed like a lot, but now, wowza. Which is why I don't own either of them anymore.

      @@JTobiason Definitely, as long as it gets you excited and motivated to practice more photography, there's no need to have to justify it. To each their own. Great video! Beautiful photos and beautiful family
