Great video and thanks for the shoutout. I would just like to clarify that I do still sell Contax T2's as long as I know they have been serviced. I no longer source compact cameras because I cannot guarantee the quality. But if I have cameras come in that I can guarantee then I still sell them. Cheers and keep up the great content.
It's really funny when you describe a camera as not being so healthy anymore, Karin. What are you, a cyborg? Technically we all are, but no because of analog cameras... Love!
I bought both the 35Ti ($415)and the T2 ($400), shot on-film lens test (test charts), and used each for a week. I resold the 35Ti and kept the T2. Why? The lens on the Nikon was absolutely sharper at its best, but the T2 was nearly as sharp, and that sharpness covered most of the image, whereas the Nikon image quality fell off into the edges and corners. Theoretically, the matrix metering of the NIkon should be better, but in practice, it was a wash. The controls of the T2 are logical and simple to us. The 35Ti must be the most non-ergonomic camera ever made, with multi-level memos required to use its vast list of function selections. You literally cannot use those functions without a 50-page manual in your lap as a guide. The 35Ti is a great electronic toy to mess around with endlessly, but the T2 is just a plain old taker of photos. So, it depends on whether you are buying a camera to mess around with its complications or to take photos. (I made a $15 profit on the 35Ti resale.) 25 years later, I still have the T2, if little used. Today, I'd buy neither at their inflated prices, going for a Konica Big Mini at lower cost, or Konica Hexar AF if I wanted to pay for the best P-n-S camera ever made.
First: Excellent video! Second: Choose a yashica t3 (super) for street - it even has a "new angle scope", which helps taking pictures from low angles and it will only wind the film to the next frame if you let loose of the shutter button, so you can shoot nearly noiseless 😊 aaaaaaand it's f2.8 *mic drop* ... *picking up the mic again* It's a lot cheaper than the t4 as well. Bye. *final mic drop* 😁
I agree, I have a yashica t3, 4 and 5 and the t3 is the most useful for street, and for its lower price the best value for money. Maybe if I had to pick one I would keep the t4 because it's the smallest but for street the t3 is the best option
@@detectivejonesw I had the t2 (which is pretty much the same as the t3 just with f3.5 instead of f2.8) as well and the winding mechanism makes it pretty good for street indeed! However, it's almost double the size of the t4.
I had and LOVEDDDD my Contax T2!! Also had a Leica Minilux, also amazing! I still own the original Contax T a manual focus rangefinder and that's my favorite of all time.
A small but significant trivia. 35ti was the 1st compact camera from Nikon that has lens named “Nikkor”. They are so proud of the lens quality. Up to 35ti, only sir lens could have Nikkor name.
I still dont know the word for the thing that comes on the hole in the camera housing 🤦♂️ This was super fun to shoot. If i would not own those cameras i would get a Olymus AF-1 (AF-10Super) with a fixed focal lenght
Great video guys...also a tip for someone who wants a film camera and loves 35mm lens...olympus mju original is a good little cam with a sharp lens and very fast in operation and has a close up distance of 35cm and you can stil find a goodish bargain online...arround 80-120 euros...
just a small correction, in the 35ti you can set the flash to never set off, meaning that you will have to press the button for it to flash, instead of pressing the button for it not to flash. The manual is a bit confusing but close to the end there is a table which allows you to control multiple functions of the camera.
I don't have my T4 with me, but IIRC, you have three setting for flash, Auto, Flash on No flash... Ok I just went and looked..I have the T5 so maybe it is different. I also have the T3 Super which is as I said..default Auto On, Fill or Aways On, and flash off. Mmmh I do have a T3 that is broken....Auto focus not focusing right?? Maybe I should take this lens and use a body cap ?? Maybe not!!
Video @ 14:36 - "some value" - Well, where most point & shoots have their little 'ticking-time-bombs', is in the lens tucking The lens connections become severed via the use of flexible printed circuits. With enough 'Paperclip Bending' (opening & closing the lens), those connections become open (break). Better to own the non moving lens models. The Yashica T3 is fixed and has a FASTER Zeiss optic (f/2.8) than the more fragile & expensive T4 ! - Also, when the age weaknesses are corrected (hardened), the Nikon L35AW point & shoot IS THE BEST value with special features for the advanced amateur. - Its TACK Sharp lens ! - It's weatherized, has AF choice visible inside the VF, true manual focus, YOU control manual flash and the film leader is left out when rewound ! - For B&W DIY developers, this last feature is the bombBTW, I own all the premium AF P&S's : Leica Minilux, Contax T2, T3, Nikon 35Ti, Yashica T3 etc. - But that Nikon is unquestionably my favorite...

My first point and shoot was the Ricoh R1, the long forgotten predecessor to the GR1. 30mm f/3.5 lens, as tiny as the more famous and Ricoh camera, but with fewer features. However, it also regularly sells for US$150-200 in excellent to mint condition, so it's an easy recommendation for a beginner who might not want to invest a lot of money. My second point and shoot camera is the Fuji Natura S. The non-black versions sell for around US$500-600, and it has a sharp 24mm f/1.9 lens that I absolutely adore. (At that, some cameras cannot be repaired due to scarcity of parts or people who know how to repair them, so definitely do your research)
The Canon film P&S cameras are super underrated... I've got a Sureshot Max (35mm f/3.5), Sureshot AF-7 (f/4.5, but huge vf and sharp lens) and a Sureshot Zoom70 (24-70mm F/4-7) great with a decent speed film... Didn't pay more than $50 for any of them! Dig deep and find cameras that are just as good, but way cheaper than these ones I'd say...especially if you're just checking out film. ✌

If you find photography interesting, skip the likes of these cameras and consider other options ranging from fixed lens rangefinders to SLR's - with useful controls that are easy to use from an ergonomic standpoint. I don't hate these cameras, I still have a Yashica T4 that I bought back in 2001. I do hate today's prices.
i recently found a good deal on a lomo lc-a (from the original run in the 80s, but in good shape) because i wanted a different photographic medium, and it's been a blast! the last time i shot film was when i was a child running around with plastic point & shoots - my parents still laugh at the photos today because i was so small that everything i took was waist-height and crooked. lmao
Found a great condition Minolta CLE and use a V 40mm 1.4 on it... my enjoyment of film p&s is the 'process' of deciding ISO for a shoot, getting images, process film & making a print or two of the best image(s).
It's nice compact camera but I go for not much electronics camera like Olympus XA 🤔. First time I know that the ribbon issue of yashica T4 and contax T series on and off the lens 🤣😅
Why do you not have the compact Camera with the best Lens here, the Leica Minilux (which are the GREATEST !) !? And where are fx the Minox 35ML (best point&shoot !) !?
There are more really good Point and Shoot film cameras: Leica C3, Olympus XA, Olympus 35 RD, Ricoh Gr 1, 1s, 1v, Nikon 28 ti, 35 ti, Leica minilux, leica cm, leica mini, rolllei 35 afm, Olympus mju, minolta tc1, konica hexar af, rollei qz 35 t, rollei qz 35 w.
I recently got to use a Contax T2 and I gotta say, I find it to be wildly overrated. The Ricoh GR 1 is still aces for me and I've had fun with various Olympus point and shoots. I want to try many that you have listed!
Whenever TH-camrs make "The greatest [INSERT SOMETHING]" videos, they usually feature only those items they personally own - not the actual legit list of candidates to whatever greatest. The Yashica T4 and the Nikon 35Ti? Those are second tier cameras. Can you name one successful or famous photographer that produced work with either of these? Certainly that would be a requirement for the greatest point & shoot film cameras? Example: The venerable Konica Hexar AF. It was good enough for Annie Leibovitz and David Solomons. It's better in most respects to all three of these cameras features. Best viewfinder in class. Best lens in class. Best handling in class. Most silent shutter, most silent film transport. Oh, and it's cheaper than most of the alternatives, even today. But hey, click bait titles is the name of the game on TH-cam...
Let's see, fashion photographer Terry Richardson shot with the Yashica T4, which is a big reason prices are what they are for these cameras today. The T4 first caught my eye back in 2000 thanks to David Bradford's book "Drive-by Shootings", shot entirely with T4 cameras. A lot of the popularity enjoyed by cameras like those in the video has to do with their size and retractable lenses. P&S cameras are fun and handy to have on hand. I'd much rather have a camera that allows for interchangeable lenses. The suggestion to buy a far cheaper P&S to start with was a good one. If a person ends up enjoying photography, then I'd recommend skipping additional point & shoot cameras and buying a more serious camera. There are plenty of fixed lens rangefinders to choose from, but those cameras allowing interchangeable lenses are where it's at in my opinion.
Konica big mini is better. It’s sharp, quick focusing, exposure compensation and more then all RELIABLE. The lens is great with good camera functionality and ergonomics.
If you love film you will love these cameras. Like all cameras they will die one day, so enjoy it while possible. Overpriced? It is like asking if a vintage car is over-priced
any photographer on youtube with an expensive camera(no matter the model, leica, hasselblad, mamiya 7... ): "I got mine for a good price" (normally it´s less than half its real price) 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥
Those are terribly overprices cameras. Kind of more of the status, than practical results things. IMO. EOS 300 kind of cameras with pancake lens will do exactly the same, if not better, for much less price, much better reliability and not much bigger size.

You forgot Minox!
There are plenty of fixed lens rangefinders to choose from, but those cameras allowing interchangeable lenses are where it's at in my opinion.
this is the most German conversation ive ever seen
Konica big mini is better. It’s sharp, quick focusing, exposure compensation and more then all RELIABLE. The lens is great with good camera functionality and ergonomics.
I almost bought one but the guy who was selling it broke it infront of me lol.
@@SamuelStreetlife haha
It’s worth trying. Finding a non clapped body would be best. Mines has no issues and I’ve had it for 2 years. I found it at a flea market for $5.
How abt the og GR series?
If you love film you will love these cameras. Like all cameras they will die one day, so enjoy it while possible. Overpriced? It is like asking if a vintage car is over-priced
Everyone in this comment section should go Sub to Karin! And Karin Thank you for shaming Samuel!!! 🤣
Yes, you mount it on a bottle opener.
😂
LostBlockBoy onstep. 😊
Surprised Sam hasn't picked the Ricoh Gr1
They are hard to come by!
@@SamuelStreetlife True! I keep window shopping them on ebay :D
RICOH GR 📸
awesome
Why no mention of the OG Ricoh GR1...
They are harder to find
for 10 Eur you can get much better camera, SLR Canon eos 300, Auto focus, EF lens mount, great cam
Much bigger though, I think the appeal of the compact point and shoot is it’s compactness.
@@thomasjames7644 its very compact Slr
shoutout to my homie with the Miami Heat hat! #letsgoheat
Don't all film shooters take notes? That's how I remember which focal length was used. But some may be relaxed
At ease!
Contax TVS II
I own a fully working Ricoh TF-900 Automatic in very good shape. Is anybody interested?
Interesting to note that you all advise not to buy them....but then you each own one of them 🤔 Do as I say not as I do.
We all bought them a long time ago when they didn't cost a mortgage :)
the CL guy haha
👀
any photographer on youtube with an expensive camera(no matter the model, leica, hasselblad, mamiya 7... ): "I got mine for a good price" (normally it´s less than half its real price) 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥
Good deals are out there! You just need to keep looking for them.
Mju II wins
Those are terribly overprices cameras. Kind of more of the status, than practical results things. IMO. EOS 300 kind of cameras with pancake lens will do exactly the same, if not better, for much less price, much better reliability and not much bigger size.
I totally agree and mine is on its way to its new owner haha. They are fun to use and have great lenses but not worth the high asking price...
Lomo lca
These guys sound German!
LOL GR
Ihr seit Deutsche=?
Are you guys Germans?
Everybody knows that the T3 is the best.
