It's like in Swiss, they GOT banks, but only a few Swiss people have a huge amount in their bank account, most of the big accounts are foreigners. Perfume was a thing when people took 1 bath a year, 500 years ago...

I'm French and I hate "la bise" so much, especially when it's with an old creepy man I've never met before. Guys are lucky with their handshakes and now I often shake hands with people I don't know instead of doing "la bise". My quick bise guide (based on my experience as a 23 years old woman) : - 3 bises in southern France (Occitanie/PACA) - 4 bises in the Parisian region and maybe Normandy/Brittany - 2 bises everywhere else - at work, handshake with superiors (manager level and higher, unless they told you otherwise) and bise with coworkers that are on the same level or lower (the number depends on the region) - when meeting someone on a non-working situation, handshakes between men and bises (number depends on the region) to everyone else. - in a family situation everyone does the bise to everyone (at least in mine) and since family members are not always from the same region you can get in a awkwardly funny situation But the worst thing is that not everyone does the kiss noise and it makes me very uncomfortable

I'm Swiss and what I'm most unconfortable with is... hugs. It's commun to hug between girls/woman and I NEVER know what to do.... I prefer la bise. But today, I met 3 friends and they *love* hugs. we have something similar in the Philippines - its called beso or "beso-beso" where we touch our cheeks to the opposite cheek of the other person. Its very easy to know WHEN to do it as a Filipino guy: 1. For family, Dad and all other female family members, nephews or other male members only when they are younger (like pre-teen before they become akward) 2. For close friends, if they initiate and do it once, most probably you'll have to do it next time (like old classmates, friends from high school or college) 3. For close friends at work, normally if you've attended non-work activities with them, then you can do it..mostly girls, almost never with guys 4. Almost never for new acquaintances or on a date 5. Just pick up the social queues - if they do it and you reach out your hand, and they go in for the beso, most probably just reciprocate.

So fucking true!!!!! You made me laugh sooo much, merci Paul! Alors chez moi aussi 'ça dépend' et ce, en dehors des 'ça dépend' sociaux car j'y ajoute mon propre 'ça dépend'. Je m'explique : 1 - je suis une femme donc logiquement femme = tout le temps. Mais je DÉTESTE la bise: trop personnel, trop proche, trop 'zone privée' Quand j'étais petite mes parents m'ont pas obligée à faire des bisous à tout va, on respectait mon corps !!! Donc voilà quoi. 2 - règle simple: aucune bise au travail (pourquoi je ferai une bise chaque jour à des gens que j'aime pas ? non c'est pas possible) SAUF...... parfois avec certaines personnes avec qui je me suis liée d'amitié et que je vois en dehors du travail ET... que le moment s'y prête. Sinon je les bise en dehors du travail. Si vraiment je rencontre qq'un pour la première fois, je serre la main, ce qui est souvent mal vécu par les hommes. Réaction : "ha moi je sers pas la main à une femme, c'est la bise ou rien". Ma réponse est alors 'rien', je fais un signe de la tête et tout va bien. Ha j'oubliais : quand je vais aux bureaux aux US je tape la bise !! Parce que ça les choque et j'adore ça. lol.... 3 - en dehors du taf, socialement, j'évite la bise au maximum auprès des gens avec qui je ne me sens pas d'amitié. J'ai adopté une stratégie du 'salut tôt' : je lance un salut avec un coucou de la main à exactement la distance qui rend la bise impossible ET la répétition du bonjour inutile. Compte en moyenne 2 à 3 mètres (trop près c'est insultant). 4- je m'oblige à faire la bise quand c'est 'la tournée' : bonsoir, bonsoir, bonsoir.. dans une soirée. Pour me venger, j'oblige les retardataires qui lancent un 'ha y a trop de monde je vous fais pas la bise, ça serait trop long' à justement faire la bise à tous. Je lance très fort un 'haaa mais tu vas nous vexer, nous tes amis, allez au travail paresseuse !', surtout quand c'est qq'un que j'aime pas. 5- Enfin pour finir, sache que mes amis, je leur donne tout mon amour en les prenant dans mes bras lors de la bise en y incluant souvent un câlin (=serrer fort dans les bras). CONCLUSION : je choisis qui je bise. MAIS j'ai dû développer des stratégies dans chaque cas pour éviter la bise aux autres sans les froisser ou paraître froide (ce qui n'est pas le cas, je déteste juste ça). Chaque pays où l'on ne se bise pas est une destination que j'apprécie rien que pour ça lol
I'm learning French in school, and this is a great way to get used to the language. I'm better at reading French right now, but one day I'll be able to speak as well as this guy, I hope. I think the main thing I've learned is swear words, though. "Allez-vous faire fouture" Is my new go to.

La bise is a really bad joke. I'm tunisian, and the tunisian do 2 BISE ( if you forget that our grand parents or somebody else want to do more... you know we can't say no 😂). Just watched so many of these videos. This guy is a great comedian, if he had a full length special or ten I would happily watch them. As for la bise, I think its a nice thing to do. Honestly wish that people in the US would do it just because its kinda taboo for men to show any sort of affecrion for each other unless youre drunk. Not saying everyone should be giving each other handies behind the IHOP dumpster, but a bit of positive reinforcement in the lives of boys and men who are taught that life is pain could go a long way.

I'm Swiss and what I'm most unconfortable with is... hugs. It's commun to hug between girls/woman and I NEVER know what to do.... I prefer la bise. But today, I met 3 friends and they *love* hugs. I thought that only 2 of them did, so I hugged them... but then, the third one was sad because I had forgotten her ! I was so sorry and hugged her as well...
So... yeah. La bise is complicated. But *hugs are worse*

we have something similar in the Philippines - its called beso or "beso-beso" where we touch our cheeks to the opposite cheek of the other person. Its very easy to know WHEN to do it as a Filipino guy:
1. For family, Dad and all other female family members, nephews or other male members only when they are younger (like pre-teen before they become akward)
2. For close friends, if they initiate and do it once, most probably you'll have to do it next time (like old classmates, friends from high school or college)
3. For close friends at work, normally if you've attended non-work activities with them, then you can do it..mostly girls, almost never with guys
4. Almost never for new acquaintances or on a date
5. Just pick up the social queues - if they do it and you reach out your hand, and they go in for the beso, most probably just reciprocate.

Alors chez moi aussi 'ça dépend' et ce, en dehors des 'ça dépend' sociaux car j'y ajoute mon propre 'ça dépend'.
Je m'explique :
1 - je suis une femme donc logiquement femme = tout le temps.
Mais je DÉTESTE la bise: trop personnel, trop proche, trop 'zone privée' Quand j'étais petite mes parents m'ont pas obligée à faire des bisous à tout va, on respectait mon corps !!! Donc voilà quoi.
2 - règle simple: aucune bise au travail (pourquoi je ferai une bise chaque jour à des gens que j'aime pas ? non c'est pas possible) SAUF...... parfois avec certaines personnes avec qui je me suis liée d'amitié et que je vois en dehors du travail ET... que le moment s'y prête. Sinon je les bise en dehors du travail. Si vraiment je rencontre qq'un pour la première fois, je serre la main, ce qui est souvent mal vécu par les hommes. Réaction : "ha moi je sers pas la main à une femme, c'est la bise ou rien". Ma réponse est alors 'rien', je fais un signe de la tête et tout va bien.
Ha j'oubliais : quand je vais aux bureaux aux US je tape la bise !! Parce que ça les choque et j'adore ça. lol....
3 - en dehors du taf, socialement, j'évite la bise au maximum auprès des gens avec qui je ne me sens pas d'amitié. J'ai adopté une stratégie du 'salut tôt' : je lance un salut avec un coucou de la main à exactement la distance qui rend la bise impossible ET la répétition du bonjour inutile. Compte en moyenne 2 à 3 mètres (trop près c'est insultant).
4- je m'oblige à faire la bise quand c'est 'la tournée' : bonsoir, bonsoir, bonsoir.. dans une soirée. Pour me venger, j'oblige les retardataires qui lancent un 'ha y a trop de monde je vous fais pas la bise, ça serait trop long' à justement faire la bise à tous. Je lance très fort un 'haaa mais tu vas nous vexer, nous tes amis, allez au travail paresseuse !', surtout quand c'est qq'un que j'aime pas.
5- Enfin pour finir, sache que mes amis, je leur donne tout mon amour en les prenant dans mes bras lors de la bise en y incluant souvent un câlin (=serrer fort dans les bras).
CONCLUSION : je choisis qui je bise. MAIS j'ai dû développer des stratégies dans chaque cas pour éviter la bise aux autres sans les froisser ou paraître froide (ce qui n'est pas le cas, je déteste juste ça).
Chaque pays où l'on ne se bise pas est une destination que j'apprécie rien que pour ça lol

I'm learning French in school, and this is a great way to get used to the language. I'm better at reading French right now, but one day I'll be able to speak as well as this guy, I hope. I think the main thing I've learned is swear words, though. "Allez-vous faire fouture" Is my new go to.

I went to La Reunion (a French overseas territory) last year with a project thing that my school was a part. i stayed with a host family where no one spoke a word of English and we went to the school of my host- where I was dragged around and given La bise by 30-40 of her closes friends. I've never felt so uncomfortable in my life

As for la bise, I think its a nice thing to do. Honestly wish that people in the US would do it just because its kinda taboo for men to show any sort of affecrion for each other unless youre drunk. Not saying everyone should be giving each other handies behind the IHOP dumpster, but a bit of positive reinforcement in the lives of boys and men who are taught that life is pain could go a long way.

as a french man i hate doing la bise to men. I find it too awkward. I only do it to my father once a year maybe. But there is this guy, the boyfriend of my cousin from Bordeaux who always wants to make la bise (2 kisses) with me even if i want a handshake, he never gives up . So be carefull and be ready guys if you want to visit Bordeaux, because you will have to face this awkward situation where a man with a beard will approach you and rub his cheeks against yours and not only once but twice !!
