If you're interested, Wait in the Wings just made an amazing documentary about the making of Ride the Cyclone. And they talk about how this number and the character of Jane Doe was developed. It's well worth the watch
They even talked about how they created a skirt that wouldn't fall over Jane's head when she turned upside down (they put metal rods in every third pleat).
I still don't know how she hit those high notes while upside down.
