@NamiiWavee Yeah, I always had an issue with the plot point that disability just disappears in the afterlife but I still prefer that towards no representation. But then instead of making changes to just have the character's disability follow him through to the afterlife, they just got rid of it and had his inability to speak come from trauma instead. If you choose to watch more of this, you aren't prepared in the SLIGHTEST! This is one of those musicals where you find new things with every time you watch it. Like the really high, long notes in "fall fair suite" are said to actually be Jane still falling to her death after everyone else had already hit the ground! Which is why she does them again in "Ballad of Jane Doe" :) RTC has a whole lot of little details like that, it's very fun!
My absolute favourite thing about the ballad of Jane Doe is when she does the trills. The first part (the oohs) are the climb of the rollercoaster, the second part (the ahhs) is the upcoming crash and the ahhs she sings in descending notes is her head being thrown away and falling somewhere away from the coaster. They show it with the hand movements. The entire song is so beautifully haunting, I will never get over it.
The instrumental in Noel's Lament is for Mischa(Ukraine guy) and Noel dancing, acting out a scene, and then kissing... Also Noel was the one who got the hat at the end of the first song
Yaayy!! You're in for a ride. Thot hat is really on point 1:22 - This song is awesome 8:01 - fall fair suite 13:48 - the ballad of Jane Doe 20:24 - Noel's Lament Would love to see you react to the full musical
Songs left from this musical: -Uranium Suite (this is the new version of Fall Fair Suite, from the cast album) -What The World Needs -Talia -Space Age Bachelor Man -Jawbreaker/Sugar Cloud -Its Not a Game/It's Just a Ride There's also Every Story's Got a Lesson and The New Birthday Song which are only really worth listening to if they're also watched :)
YEAH!! I'm so surprised you didn't watch the musical video for Noel's Lament because it is. INSANE. But if you do a part 2 you should definitely listen to What The World Needs, Space Age Bachelor Man, Talia (Ukrainian rapper man Mischa the beloved ❤) and the Uranium Suite! Also the visuals for these songs really just add to the craziness lol
I'm so sorry. But you have sinned. You must now listen to This Song Is Awesome followed by Thalia to achieve true Ride The Cyclone emotional whiplash. EDIT: YOU SINNED AGAIN. YOU NEED TO WATCH THE VIDEO FOR NOEL'S LAMENT. THATS JUST ABOUT THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE TO WATCH.
For a SLIGHT bit of context, all of the children have just entered the afterlife after dying in the rollercoaster crash, and have been given the opportunity for ONE of them to be reborn and have a 2nd chance at life. Each one sings a song to convince the others that they are the most worthy of living again. All of the songs are so EXTREMELY different to match each character's personality or persona.
One of my favorite things about this show is the sheer diversity of musical styles. And the characterization takes a very "Breakfast Club" approach to taking stereotypes and showing just how much deeper the characters are. And, of course, the approach to the afterlife.
Watching this with an internal body temperature of 39.5°C/103.1°F sure feels like a fever dream in more ways than one And starting with "This song is awesome"? Very brave indeed
Okay to the best of my ability to explain, the way she was spinning/flying around in the Ballad of Jane Doe is that shes attached to a crane-like thing connected with a harness. Before the change when she backs up into the curtain you can notice someone attaching the harness to the device and then she starts levitating, then near the end of the song she gets dragged backwards back towards the curtain where they take her off of it
@@MathewMcKenna is there any chance you can react to more Annapantsu, she also does an amazing cover of Noel’s Lament and it’s brilliant you’ll love it :)
"I'll go with the cast recording for this one" honestly you definitely should have seen the video 😂 most of them are even better with the video (if you ever do a part 2 and watch Space Age Bachelor Man ABSOLUTELY watch the video)
12:10 I feel like at this part in the song they’re going through the 5 stages of grief but only get to the 4th and the end of the musical is acceptance
When I first watched this musical I spent like 20 minutes obsessing over that one line. “Time eats all his children in the end.” Fucking KRONOS from GREEK MYTHOLOGY. IS THAT WHAT THAT FUCKING MYTH WAS ABOUT? I will never get over that revelation. Maybe I’m just late to the party, I dunno, but Kronos (the god of time) eating his children and then those children overcoming him and escaping, was that just,, the becoming of the gods? That line is my Roman Empires I am so serious
25:07 Jane Doe was actually on a fly rail system I think, she had a harness holding on to her and swinging her around while she was singing, super impressed with that actor. Also you you should absolutely give it a watch, it’s an amazing show.
I watched the musical on youtube not too long ago and have been singing the songs from it non stop. The fact that you're now reacting to the songs is just great timing
Ride the cyclone is by far my favourite musical pretyy much to ever exist, i would love to see you react to the full musical ♡ Also fun fact; The Ballad of Jane Doe is a lament and Noel's Lament is a Ballad this is because a ballad is 'A song that tells a story' while a lament is 'a passionate expression of grief or sorrow.' This is because Jane Doe WANTS to be able to sing a ballad but can't because she doesnt have a story to tell and Noel wants to sing a lament but cant because instead of a sorrowful life, his life was incredibly boring. (how he sees it anyways) Karnak (the fortune telling machine states that "Show not what they were perceived to be but whay they dreamt they were." So while both songs are actually not the type of songs the title states they are, it doesnt matter because the title instead represents what the characters wanted out of their lives but never got
If you ever react to more songs you should definitely watch an actual recording of Noels Lament it's kinda interesting and funny at some points(also has a costume change)
I am definitely writing too many comments here, but I think you would enjoy "Noel's Lament" in the stage version! The choreography is stunning! Also, there's a lot of different variants of this musical and its songs online. The cast recording i.e. replaces "Fall Fair Suite" with "Uranium Suite", and adds "Be Safe, Be Good" (a DEVASTATING song when you know everyone singing it is dead) as well as "A World Inside". In another live version, the big opening song is called "Waiting for the Drop", and I'm pretty sure there's even more openings and other variants of the songs. So much to discover!
The reason all the songs sound so different is because all of the kids were very different and all of them dreamed of different things, so the genres reflect that. Mischa was aggressive so rap, Noel was dramatic so an older sounding song, Ocean was ambitious so a more pop sounding song, Ricky was into sci-fi so an 80s type of song, and Jane didn't know who she was so it's pretty bare-bones and carnival like. 👍👍 You absolutely SHOULD watch the full musical it's amazing
I don't know if anyone has said it in the comments yet, but Jane's parents didn't come forward because they were in jail for drug stuff. She has a play about her and her brother called Legoland (it's a book. the actual musical of it is lost media.)
"Book" is a theatre nerd term for script! I have seen quite some people react to a "rtc book?!?!" With great excitement in the comments of reviews of the show. When you go to review sites, the show will likely be referred to as "the book". And to my knowledge, legoland is a play, not a musical. Correct me if mistaken.
Fun fact: Emily Rohm, the person who played Jane Doe, is actually classically trained in opera. (Also you should see the video of Noel's lament live, its so fun.)
Havent watched it yet, but considering the words "I dont have any idea what ride the cyclone is about", Mathew is going to have a very interesting time
About the intro: honestly same. I had no idea what Ride the Cyclone was about since the only reason I've even heard of it is a bunch of people keep suggesting it in discord. It also made me think "roller-coaster" but I had no idea until know if that was correct or not 😅
please watch the slime tutorial, its amazing (and it makes things make more sense). that said, the basic plot is reverse cats- they all have a singing competition to determine who can come back to life
20:24 PLEASE watch the live version of noel’s lament, the costume change from noel to monique is one of my favorite parts of the whole show (not to mention noel and mischa are SO GAY in that song /pos)
15:08 so fun fact, it is theorized that jane doe is connected to another character from another musical where her parents are dead and she and her brother just survive on their own (the full musical is lost media so this might be in accurate)
15:06 so jane doe actually has a canon name, penny lamb. in the play that told the story of her when she first came to uranium city with her brother (ezra), her parents i think were arrested for having a weed farm and penny and ezra were taken but they never knew what the outside world was like. i highly recommend looking into it, but it is lost media
FINALLY!! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ONE DAY! I love that RTC is getting a little more well-known lately, and I'm so glad that you've decided to check out their songs. My daydreams of you reacting the musical can finally come to an end.
If you want a list of 4-5 songs for the next part if you do (any order): - What The World Needs - Thalia - Space Age Bachelor Man - Sugar Cloud - It's not a game/It's just a ride (Final song) (maybe, watch the video for noel's lament, the songs are better enjoyed in the actual musical than the cast recording) Special consideration: Uranium Suite, Waiting For The Drop, alternative opening songs like Fall Fair Suite
Good to see this show getting more attention, and you should watch the live version of noels lament as the cast recording is so horribly autotuned and doesn’t do it justice
The Ballad of Jane Doe is one of my favorite songs but since I’m an opera guy I recognize it pays tribute to an opera aria called the Doll Song which makes sense since Jane Doe’s head is a doll’s head.
Whats really cool about the song titles is that "Noel's Lament" is a balled which is story telling through song. and "Balled of Jane doe" is a lament, which is expressing sadness or regret
OH LOOK IT'S MY MUSICAL THEATER HYPERFIXATION. I found this musical through Jane's video, blind bought the album, and was INCREDIBLY CONFUSED until I found a plot summary and then got to watch the slime tutorial lmao. It's basically Inverse Cats. Noel is a bored gay theater kid in a small town making up dramas starring himself to vicariously experience the highs and lows of life that even before he died young he feared he'd never get. He especially likes French New Wave Cinema and is called "the most romantic boy in town", referencing the Romantic movement in art. Also it's "Uranium City, Saskatchewan" because in-universe it's a small town that mined and exported Uranium ore. So when you ask if Mischa means the element or the town... yes.
Not sure if you ever figured it out, but in Ballad of Jane Doe, there was most likely a fly system in place. She probably has a harness attached to her body and the system to help her "fly."
The entire video, I managed to keep myself quiet (its almost 1am) until "Do you have the lings of six people?!" at 19:43. It caught me completely off guard 🤣
You understand the second song right. They have just realized they have died and remembering what happened to cause it. They I think are feeling disoriented after waking in this in between world heaven and hell.that is my idea why they are flipping from anger, to sad, to confusion, to anger again, to sadness again.
I have a head cannon that Jane’s song is so choir like and the music is carnival esk because all she really knows is the choir and they died at a carnival
The shadow wings in the curtain in janes song always get me and the reference is Kronos the Lord of time who are his children the gods and the fact that jane was still alive for awhile after losing her head so when she mentions the screaming on street it was actually the aftermath of the accident i could pull apart this musical for hours
Hey Mathew, have you seen "llamas with hats"? The entire series is less than 30 min, and sometime in the future it's getting a special half hour epilogue
'Time eats all his children in the end' is an oblique reference to Kronos eating Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Hestia, before Rhea figured a way to save Zeus from the same fate.
I cannot express how amazing the timing is. My cousin literally just got me into this show (and falsettos but I don’t feel like being sad rn) and I find you upload a reaction lmao.

If you choose to watch more of this, you aren't prepared in the SLIGHTEST! This is one of those musicals where you find new things with every time you watch it. Like the really high, long notes in "fall fair suite" are said to actually be Jane still falling to her death after everyone else had already hit the ground! Which is why she does them again in "Ballad of Jane Doe" :)
RTC has a whole lot of little details like that, it's very fun!
And Ricky is the only one to notice the notes
Matt: "I could do without the gyrating."
Me: *PRAYING he'd react to the song Space Age Bachelor Man.*
Also Noel was the one who got the hat at the end of the first song
so sad he didn't react to their moment in noel's lament lol
@@enamiamappi me too, i stan Nischa
Yaayy!! You're in for a ride. Thot hat is really on point
1:22 - This song is awesome
8:01 - fall fair suite
13:48 - the ballad of Jane Doe
20:24 - Noel's Lament
Would love to see you react to the full musical
“you’re in for a ride” IS IT THE CYCLONE
i am SO sad that you didn't watch the performance for noels lament, it truly makes it better
Songs left from this musical:
-Uranium Suite (this is the new version of Fall Fair Suite, from the cast album)
-What The World Needs
-Talia
-Space Age Bachelor Man
-Jawbreaker/Sugar Cloud
-Its Not a Game/It's Just a Ride
There's also Every Story's Got a Lesson and The New Birthday Song which are only really worth listening to if they're also watched :)
- Tragic Fact (other intro song)
- be safe, be good (for Rachel)
- a world inside
- Waiting for the drop (other *other* intro song)
If and when he does space age bachelor man he NEEDS to find a video of it. It CANNOT go with ONLY the audio it MUST be with video too
@@brithebi7342 FRR
This Song Is Awesome is worse without Talia.
He needs to listen to Space Age Bachelor Man > Ballad of Jane Doe for that whiplash
@@v0id3d_st4rs True true
@@v0id3d_st4rsYES
For a SLIGHT bit of context, all of the children have just entered the afterlife after dying in the rollercoaster crash, and have been given the opportunity for ONE of them to be reborn and have a 2nd chance at life. Each one sings a song to convince the others that they are the most worthy of living again. All of the songs are so EXTREMELY different to match each character's personality or persona.
Wow it seems so cool
One of my favorite things about this show is the sheer diversity of musical styles. And the characterization takes a very "Breakfast Club" approach to taking stereotypes and showing just how much deeper the characters are. And, of course, the approach to the afterlife.
Watching this with an internal body temperature of 39.5°C/103.1°F sure feels like a fever dream in more ways than one
And starting with "This song is awesome"? Very brave indeed
Honestly I can’t tell if it would be better or worse if he’d started with SABM 😂
@@TH-camoutofcontext1 haha true 😂 I'd say worse for him, very funny for us
Okay to the best of my ability to explain, the way she was spinning/flying around in the Ballad of Jane Doe is that shes attached to a crane-like thing connected with a harness. Before the change when she backs up into the curtain you can notice someone attaching the harness to the device and then she starts levitating, then near the end of the song she gets dragged backwards back towards the curtain where they take her off of it
FINALLLY THANK YOU MAT IVE WAITED SO LONG
im sorryyy
@@MathewMcKennaits okay bb I get it
@@MathewMcKenna is there any chance you can react to more Annapantsu, she also does an amazing cover of Noel’s Lament and it’s brilliant you’ll love it :)
The cast recording does not do justice to Noels Lament- the emotion and passion and energy Noel gives in the video recording is impossibly replicable
Doing the cast recording and not the video for Noels Lament is criminal 😭
"I'll go with the cast recording for this one" honestly you definitely should have seen the video 😂 most of them are even better with the video (if you ever do a part 2 and watch Space Age Bachelor Man ABSOLUTELY watch the video)
Yesss!! SABM and Talia are so much better in the cast recording!!
8:23 "Could this have been any more different from the last one" Perfectly describes the entire musical
As a Canadian I am very proud that this is the musical that represents us
SAME🎉
Amen to that
"I feel like we're about to get soem high notes and im ready" oh no ones ever ready for noels high notes
Noel's Lament is like the best one to watch a slime tutorial of! Everybody wants to see Kholby in a dress!
One step closer to making Mathew a theatre kid
WHY IS NO ONE MENTIONING THE T H O T CAP?! lost my shit fr😂
fr lmao i expected more people mentioning it
Need one for myself haha
Honestly, I just accepted it XD
@@MathewMcKennawere used to this now
25:07 Jane Doe was actually on a fly rail system I think, she had a harness holding on to her and swinging her around while she was singing, super impressed with that actor.
Also you you should absolutely give it a watch, it’s an amazing show.
I watched the musical on youtube not too long ago and have been singing the songs from it non stop. The fact that you're now reacting to the songs is just great timing
12:45 “that bass is really hitting through” thank Vergil for it
noah pfp spotted
Actually NGL you should just watch the whole play it's really good
A really good one to watch is Talia I love the projections in it
I am definitely writing too many comments here, but I think you would enjoy "Noel's Lament" in the stage version!
You absolutely SHOULD watch the full musical it's amazing
I don't know if anyone has said it in the comments yet, but Jane's parents didn't come forward because they were in jail for drug stuff. She has a play about her and her brother called Legoland (it's a book. the actual musical of it is lost media.)
"Book" is a theatre nerd term for script! I have seen quite some people react to a "rtc book?!?!" With great excitement in the comments of reviews of the show. When you go to review sites, the show will likely be referred to as "the book". And to my knowledge, legoland is a play, not a musical. Correct me if mistaken.
Anyone ever think the John Doe in BOJD could maybe be Ezra?
@@GabeItche It is a play, my wording just worded weird ig. 🙏😭
@@The_GeekyLemonS6E7 OMG ME AND MY FRIEND WE'RE KINDA "SPECULATING" ON THAT
Fun fact: Emily Rohm, the person who played Jane Doe, is actually classically trained in opera. (Also you should see the video of Noel's lament live, its so fun.)
Havent watched it yet, but considering the words "I dont have any idea what ride the cyclone is about", Mathew is going to have a very interesting time
Listening to all the songs without context is so confusing😭
buddy is NOT ready for space age bachelor man
About the intro: honestly same. I had no idea what Ride the Cyclone was about since the only reason I've even heard of it is a bunch of people keep suggesting it in discord. It also made me think "roller-coaster" but I had no idea until know if that was correct or not 😅
there was a girl who sang the jane doe song for a talent show at my school and she ate
12:06 I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds those lyrics weirdly comforting
please watch the slime tutorial, its amazing (and it makes things make more sense). that said, the basic plot is reverse cats- they all have a singing competition to determine who can come back to life
20:24 PLEASE watch the live version of noel’s lament, the costume change from noel to monique is one of my favorite parts of the whole show (not to mention noel and mischa are SO GAY in that song /pos)
Nischa is a ship and we love it
15:08 so fun fact, it is theorized that jane doe is connected to another character from another musical where her parents are dead and she and her brother just survive on their own (the full musical is lost media so this might be in accurate)
If you want a list of 4-5 songs for the next part if you do (any order):
- What The World Needs
- Thalia
- Space Age Bachelor Man
- Sugar Cloud
- It's not a game/It's just a ride (Final song)
(maybe, watch the video for noel's lament, the songs are better enjoyed in the actual musical than the cast recording)
Special consideration: Uranium Suite, Waiting For The Drop, alternative opening songs like Fall Fair Suite
The original actress of Jane doe has a tiktok and she showed the behind the scenes of how they made her fly and it is amazing how she did it!
Oh my god please listen to more of this!! I'm so glad this musical surged in popularity
Good to see this show getting more attention, and you should watch the live version of noels lament as the cast recording is so horribly autotuned and doesn’t do it justice
18:16 “not even as a snack PUT THAT BABY DOWN”
not me literally screaming “DANG IT” 😭
AAA, FINALLY
also, you really need to WATCH Noel‘s Lament, bc all these songs are so much better when you also watch the performance
Damn. I wish he watched the video for Noel’s lament. I think the stage recording is better but maybe that’s just me😭
The Ballad of Jane Doe is one of my favorite songs but since I’m an opera guy I recognize it pays tribute to an opera aria called the Doll Song which makes sense since Jane Doe’s head is a doll’s head.
So when you ask if Mischa means the element or the town... yes.
Fun Fact: Noel's Lament is actually a ballad. The ballad of jane doe is actually a lament.
Not watching Noel's Lament is a TRAGEDY
its hilarious
Fun fact! I’m pretty sure Jane Doe reaching out her arms a lot is supposed to be her reaching up as she falls from the roller coaster.
The fact when he was reaction to ''the ballad of jane doe'' is SO FUNNY- (my fav song rahh)
Jane Doe says “No parents came, and so they never learned my name.” In her entrance.
one of the best musicals reacted to by one of the best youtubers- a perfect pairing
In the 2015 Chcago Shakespear Theater version of "Fall Fair Suite" Mischa breaks into rap during it :3
DAMN I was hoping he'd react to talia after this song is awesome :(( they work best when watched in conjunction
One word for the “time eats all his children in the end” line: *Kronos*
Also you have to react to Noel’s lament on stage, it’s brilliant to watch.
I think if you see the scene of Noel’s lament it makes more sense because you get the monologue before it.
'Time eats all his children in the end' is an oblique reference to Kronos eating Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Hestia, before Rhea figured a way to save Zeus from the same fate.
The reference of 'time eats all its children in the end' is related to Kronos the greek god of time who ate/try to his children
“Don’t eat children. Not even as a snack. PUT THAT BABY DOWN” HELP
you should absolutely watch the actual performance for noels laments. its so good!!
I cannot express how amazing the timing is. My cousin literally just got me into this show (and falsettos but I don’t feel like being sad rn) and I find you upload a reaction lmao.
