not really, "mutation" implies that the changes in nucleotide sequences have a pattern. which is not what darwin was arguing.

I mean, that is Darwinian evolution in very simplistic terms. The idea is that species arise through random mutations, and the ones that make an organism more suited to its environment will allow that organism to survive and propagate their genes. Which is natural selection, the most adaptable species survives.
And we have proof. We are getting taller over the years in country's where height is a standard for most women. In country's where height isn't a favored attribute they aren't increasing In height by generation on a noticeable scale
Yea ..like moths over time, the dark colored moths became the more common of the two color forms. Natural selection favored the dark individuals, so they were more successful after the trees changed.
But does that mean a Moth changes in to a Bird lol.
Or elephant changes in to a man .
Or a Monkey to a human ?

They were two populations of the same species that became separated from one another during the formation of the Congo River. Over time they differentiated in minor ways, and now they are so different genetically that they are considered different species of ape. You can see it in the Galapagos islands too, which is where Darwin formed his theory.
If you knew well, Darwinism and this are not the same just like quantum mechanics and classical physics are not the same. But why do we know 🤣

I respect you for that. My ex-gf was PhD student in a lab that works on molecular genetics. Their research always involved evolution at some degree. For some reason, half of her colleagues were muslims. None of them believed in evolution, because this is not how things happened according to the Quran. It's crazy what some religions do to people.

However that point cannot arise, either there is a flaw in our understanding of the religion (which is what I would argue is happening), or there is a flaw in the presentation of the science (which also happened, my introduction to evolution was as proof of atheism, rather then biology. So it was tainted with assumptions).
A random mutation is still a mutation. So while he might not have been precise enough he was correct.

Not sure I understand your question though 🤔 A mutation might happen for a variety of reasons and it may or may not affect the organism. In any case, mutations create variation in a population, which could then possibly lead to evolution.

@lukasm8990 Scientific theories are never proven in the formal sense i.e. logic proof steps leading deductively to a conclusion. That's only for math and formal logic. Science goes beyond that with empirical confirmation, testing, predictions etcetera. And, like I said, they're provisional and open to falsification. You can call them "proven" but only in the colloquial sense.

Natural selection and mutations, Of course they're random! Epigenetics is to do with environment and behaviour that can change us on a genetic level and can be passed down to our children, but it is reversable! Autogenesis is a part of evolution that's derived internally without any external interactions! Both have helped humanity evolve into what we are! @Programm4r "Darwinism" refers to what Darwin himself proposed and is about a century out of date. The modern theory of evolution is the backbone of biology so I imagine biologists do defend it when eejits like Subhoor come along not even understanding what evolution is.

Please Religious People Stay Away From Science
Actually, both are wrong. A asteroid coming to hit earth doesn't care about your feelings/beliefs. Forsee it or not, it's coming and praying won't save you...sure you'll feel safe in your head that you are religious but who will even know after the earth is destroyed?
After the earth is destroyed and all people die, there are 2 scenarios.
1. Theres no god, no afterlife, no hell and heaven. The outcome will be :
a. Atheist : neutral, no wins no lose
b. Believer : neutral, no wins no lose
Both zero chance to win.
2. There is God, with afterlife, hell and heaven. The outcome will be :
Atheist : guaranteed lose and stays on hell
Believer : some probably go to hell for sometime but will go to heaven eventually.
Atheist still zero chance to win, and 100% lose. believer have more than zero chance to win, and 100% win after sometime.
Conclusion, being a believer is a better position to make, since it has more chances to win. Choosing something that has zero chance to win and 100% chance of losing is an irrational position

First of all the proposal of Darwin is that evolution is that species change over time, give raise to new species and that they have common ancestor with the mechanism for that being natural selection.
The fact that Darwin first proposed a scientific theory to explain evolution, does not mean that thousands of scientists haven't built on it. Quite the opposite, with genetics and modern technology, we can explain evolution more accurately.

The mistake here is that Subboor focused on the fact that mutations are "mostly" random (stochastic in nature), BUT if that's all what evolution relies on, then it wouldn't work. If all Subboor knows about evolution is that mutations are random then that only proves he doesn't really understand what he's talking about... why ?
Because Natural Selection is NOT random , that's the part he missed. The fact that natural selection is not random is what makes the evolution of complexity (with an increase in fitness through adaptive evolution) possible in the first place. But that's just creationists being creationists, they don't even want to understand.
