I'm not much of a guitarist, but I love to compose R&B, Smooth Jazz songs on piano. I have studio guitarists play the guitar parts. One of my first original songs in this genre was "You Are" and I immediately thought of the pre-chorus chord progression in my song when you played "'Cm7 Dm7, EbM7, Gsus, G." My chords are Cm7, Dm7, Gm7, Eb (Eb/F F7). Give the song a listen. th-cam.com/video/znSUuYUjzeY/w-d-xo.html

I’m self taught thru youtube and have been playing for like 13 years off and on but watching a lot of these videos makes me realize that no formal teaching stops you from advancing. What and how did you practice to develop the skills to bridge into a Neo soul style? I found that i would want to play quick but clean licks and melodically transition thru chords. But most tutorials are already just randomly using hammer ons and pull off tech without much of a road map of songs they learned/practiced that took them there
Kerry… thanks for this.. you putting your time into this so we can drift away into our own worlds and write our own little diddies is priceless man. It means a lot and I’m very grateful

Always wanted to learn an instrument. This video convinced me to buy a guitar now at 37. I will learn this before I leave this physical reality 🖤Amazing
I had never heard of neo soul until I came across your site by accident. Super glad I did ! I'm retired and just bought a Fender Player Strat so trying to learn this one song. Love the melody and the chords and the whole vibe of the piece. I'm going to subscribe and this old dude is going to learn some more of this great sound. Thank you for sharing your skills.
Hey Kerry, love your videos, definitely refreshing to have someone with a mind to teach R&B and now soul guitar lessons. The only piece of this video I find lacking is the lesson. Full disclosure , I am a beginner still learning chords and working on my progressons and fingerings. I watch this video over and over and could not find a good spot where you go step by step on how to play each chord or even how to play the lick. You just played it. I guess the expectation is just to mimic what you are doing but I think that’s difficult for a beginner at times. I do appreciate your videos and will continue to try to learn from them. Thanks!
Im in love with your word on your video describe, “i desire to help as many people as I possibly can unlock their full potential as a guitar player”. So many thanks to you kerry, i enjoy it your video so much. God bless !! Sorry for my bad english
Hey Kerry. Bass player here! Great lesson. I know it's a little old, but in case you still read it: I found this VERY helpful because it gives me exposure of neo-soul progressions in music. Since a lot of neo-soul is garnishing with different extensions, I think it would've been helpful in this video to explain your voicings, hammer-on/pull-of notes, and (for the bass players out there), perhaps what notes to highlight in passing. Good stuff, I'll be sticking around. Thanks again, Kerry!
Wow, this young man is actually playing the melodic intro to an old Eddy Arnold tune, "Make the world go away". My parents always used to listen to that song. Eddy Arnold would be proud that someone took his line and improved on it!
thank you so much for your vids every time i watch your videos i learn something new! you motivate me so much when it comes to learning to play and just playing overall
I would say my adult learning peak of RHYTHM and BLUES is to learn Al Green's Let's stay together....this teacher is so great....thank you merci beaucoup...great lesson...
Hi Kerry. I’m brand new to electric guitar & I’m SO HAPPY you showed up in my feed. I’ve been wanting to learn how to play R&B & Neo Soul. Thank you so much!❤️🙏🏽😁

Hey Kerry, I can't explain why. But I find myself fascinated by your explanation of and approach to NeoSoul guitar technique. Maybe it's for the same reasons that you explained your fascination with this particular tune ☺️😊
The guitar playing in this reminds me a lot of 'Europa' by Carlos Santana for some reason; of course there are numerous differences between the styles, but I find the melodic and phrasal similarities endearing and interesting :)
man i love your style, it's easy to tell that you understand our beginners needs and just as easy to tell that you truly want to share your love for that kind of music and help us to enjoy playing that too. in three words: you, are, rad! :))
