I'm not sure I understand what memory cards we would clone with this. Are you asking if you can clone the MicroSD card? If so, you don't need to back it up as the main software is ran on the device itself and the vehicle software is saved on the microSD card. If you lose it, you can put in a regular microSD card in and download the software again via computer.
Only if you get an oem one that’s already programmed. You can initialize or reset the system on the car so that it can scan it. To register an aftermarket one, you’ll need a different tool. Check out one of my latest videos where I show the process.

Neither, it has to be plugged in to work.
