Yeah this one went back to old school Shinobi with one hit kills which ramp up the difficulty alot and in my personal opinion is better than the arcade version which is not often that happens in gaming back then.
My mother got me this game back in the day early Xmas present I was about 14..I was in awe would be the word now. She wasn't a games person. Oh fave song statue of liberty and the bosses and last one..let me catch my breath..megadrive knew what they were doing adding a headphone jack!

A great ninja game, and great game in the Shinobi series. Like the arcade version, both have you doing objectives in each stage (like the first game, this one has you saving people), but this game feels much better than it's arcade counterpart. Also, nothing screams badass more than jumping off a building, shurikening your enemies to death on your way down, and then landing as light as a feather on the ground below after a several stories high leap of faith.
The character of this game is Hayate Musashi his nationality is Japanese-American and he's also the estranged son of Joe Musashi from the Revenge of Shinobi who took down the evil organization known as the Neo-Zeed
Arcade version and console version are both good. In particular, although the final boss was different, the boss of the console version was more cool, but the boss of the arcade version also has his own personality. She's the last boss. She's attacking with a ghost. japanese occult feeling..
This game, different though from the arcade Shadow Dancer, is also OHK. But the rest of the series aren't, even with that if you collide while moving or jumping with enemies doesn't count as a hit that's part of the Shinobi subculture.
The 2 swords ninjas are bad news close quarters combat or a powered up shirukens are the best options and don't even think about releasing the dog against them it won't work
I agree that SOME of them should, mainly ones where the character dies from getting hit by something that would only slightly hurt them in real life, but in this game, I think being a One Hit Point Wonder makes you think carefully about how you want to go about killing off the enemies and rescuing the hostages.
This game was a little nice, but it also has a reputation for being... incredibly cheap. Just about every enemy pops up in places where they have some sort of advantage. Sure, the ninja dog helps a little, but he's useless against ninjas. Also, what was Sega thinking when they gave Shinobi only one hit throughout the stages? Don't get me wrong; I've been able to beat the game at least once, but still, it's a bit difficult at times. Actually, this game does have a positive side to the pointless, repeat one-hit deaths as they help you improve a little bit by learning the enemies' patterns and such.
figment1988 It's not really a guarantee that you'll hit ALL the ninjas even if you do use a turbo button. I don't know; maybe my luck was terrible in the bonus stages.
Actually only Shinobi and Shadow Dancer (both arcade and megadrive) are OHK. Super Shinobi 1&2, GG Shinobi 1&2, Shin Shinobi Den, Cyber Shinobi, Shinobi PS2, Nightshade, Shinobi 3ds, even Master System's Shinobi and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World all of them work with health bar. The design is what matters, if the games were made with OHK in mind there should be no problem.

It's a spin-off not a direct sequel to Shinobi (The Cyber Shinobi is the sequel, hence why it is subtitled Shinobi Part 2, altough many consider Revenge of Shinobi to be the sequel considering after that came Shinobi 3. It's quite confusing). Also the second game in the Shinobi series by release date would be the actual Shadow Dancer, the arcade version. The MD Version again, is completely unrelated to it. And there never was a sequel to Shadow Dancer and its story or characters at all. In fact, MD's main character, Hayate, the son of Joe Musashi never shows up again in the entire franchise.
Those ninjas in red, blue and yellow are hard to hit only powerful shuriken can hit them with one strike they can block Joe Musashi's normal shuriken in long range but they can't block from close range

At 0:15 if you beat the game, the title screen is light purple and has the title
"Shadow Dancer 2"
That only means it is set at level 2 difficulty. It says "Shadow Dancer III" when set to difficulty 3.

Pro tip: if like me you suck at the bonus stage, let youself fall without shooting a single ninja and the game will give you a 1UP.
another pro tip: hug the left side of the wall and tap the attack button repeatedly (or use turbo).

The Shinobi games were as enjoyable as they could be. A OHK system really isn't that bad, unless you're bad at platformers of course.
