Stage 4 is my favorite. The robot starts flying close to the ground but keeps going up. Like last stage's Airwing Carrier. And the thunder clouds are awesome. And the music is great too.
Sega, in the days of the genesis, had the better quality of shoot em ups. Everything from their game play to their music/sound effects trumped a lot of what was on offer by the time the Super Nintendo came around.
Unfortunate that the sound is messed up, especially since this game's soundtrack is among the *absolute best* of the 16-bit era and on the Genesis, but this video doesn't justify that claim, its too high :( Still a great run of a classic Gen game though!

Retro Soul did you say the best? I thought I was the only one to believe that. Totally agree with you, to me it's even better than Herzog zwei, Shinobi, Streets of rage, thundeforce 3. Incidentally MUSHA ALESTE is the best game on megadrive imo
I've seen that there are plenty of people who prefer Robo Aleste, even if more prefer MUSHA. Both are excellent games, and both are very different in many ways despite feeling similar. I found Robo Aleste to be less consistent in the way it plays. The games are so similar that picking a favorite is more likely to come down to style than anything else. I prefer MUSHA's visual style, audio style, and gameplay style. The ability to take a hit then urgently look for the next power up makes it so much fun for me. Robo Aleste is a wonderful and charming game that sucks me in when I play it, even when it gives me a hard time.
I've saved a few dozen peoples lives. I've arrested over a hundred people. I have conducted intensive criminal invesitgations that have lead to major charges. Beating M.U.S.H.A on the hardest difficulty was still the most insane thing I have ever done. looking back on it a decade later, I still don't understand how I did it.
My absolute favorite vertical scrolling shooter ever. I remember finding this at a Blockbuster video rental store when I was about 14, and rented it for the weekend. I loved every second playing this game. The music in particular was/is fantastic. It's a shame this is do hard to find...
I couldn't care less for this game, but the soundtrack - now that's an entirely different story altogether! Very impressive. The creators knew that if there is one thing to wow the player with - that would it it. One of the best metal virtuoso albums out there (and free). The best overall soundtrack on Megadrive.
The game is actually amazing as well. I guess if you don't like shmups you won't care much for it, but I was never a big shmup guy, played MUSHA this year and it's now in my top 10 games ever. Idk it's just really really fun, getting better at the game, memorizing it, all with the amazing soundtrack
Haha, I loved the text they added to the US version about Terri recovering from her "minor wounds" and awaiting "new adventures," as if she was just going to bounce back from watching her entire team get slaughtered in an instant. Oh, she's a trooper, but I think she's got a lot of medical leave coming...
The extra life jingle, a trademark of Compile shmups, and of Compile's Puyo Puyo games as well. In other words, same developers who did this, also did Puyo Puyo.
i just downloaded this ROM into my retroid and OMG blast from the past! i miss this game in my sega genesis when i was 13! i wish they made a MANGA storey to it. Would be sick like Macross!
Actually, the SNES did have several scrolling shooters that were genuinely excellent, and had barely any slowdowns at all. "Space Megaforce" can easily compete with the best scrolling shooters on the Mega Drive, and a few other great SNES games in that genre are "U.N. Squadron", "Super Aleste" and "FirePower 2000", and all of those games have excellent music as well.
What I understand is that PAL region games (50Hz) when played on NTSC consoles or emulators configured to run at NTSC speeds (59.94Hz), the chips processes some information slightly faster than expected of the game cart (including the sound sampling chip) and the result ends up slightly faster, about roughly 6/5 speed. The same occurs when the opposite happens. This one is likely to be a ROM dump of a Europe (PAL) cart but played on an emulator running at NTSC speed. I usually play Japanese ROM dumps and it doesn't sound like this.

If you have a genesis/ megadrive I suggest getting a reproduction cartridge unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars for a real copy and I think It's also available on the wii or wii u virtual console.

there it is, my favorite genesis soundtrack
The pitch is off in this video but yeah the original score is mindblowing.
one of the best games I played as a teenager.
The way the face inside the orb changes over time, getting angrier. This game is so fucking good.
@reznor3156 holy shit, she WAS the orb
This should have been on the Sega Genesis MINI
tom11zz884 It is in the japanese version.
Hackchi dude. Easy to set up. I have it on my SNESmini. It's already an emulator anyway so what not add more ROMs?
It's coming to nintendo Switch online
Time change, it's release for NSO.
Absolutely right I would love to have it on the mini.
Stage 4 is my favorite. The robot starts flying close to the ground but keeps going up. Like last stage's Airwing Carrier. And the thunder clouds are awesome. And the music is great too.
Wait that opening. Did Neir Automata pay homage to this games opening? Like almost exactly
that game required some insane ninja goku reflexes

What an awesome game
Is this tool assisted? Because it looks like he takes a few hits without it damaging him.
This game is the closest you’ll get to a CAVE shooter on a 16-bit console. I think it might’ve laid the foundation too. Still holds up today.
Something in my life would have been missing without this game
Yeah, _this game._
Great game from 1990
It's not the quality of the sound, it's simply the pitch. I think it's probably just bad emulation of the sound chip.

The sound is way off. Sounds way better on real hardware. Still a nice video.
PAL and NTSC differences
Is the music different in PAL or is it due to the speed? I noticed a Contra game I played on PAL had similar issues I never enjoyed.

Man, have a mercy for supports. Poor little guys...
The genesis came in two different sound chips. basically the first model has the better one that's why it sound so dam good.
So much blast processing,
not enough screen resolution (and FPS) to show for it
