I actually like this. It explains what happened to Char's Zaku, and we get a clear answer on why he stopped using it. Unlike the original anime where Char just stops using it...and the Zaku disappears with no explanation.
it didn't need an explanation in the first place. why WOULD he be using it for an underwater assault, or back in space when he had access to a gelgoog? z'gok and gelgoog have ranged weapons that can actually damage luna titanium not to mention that this is Origin continuity so it's completely irrelevant for the show anyway

It's really just a matter of matching the descent of the craft with Char's velocity. Hard to do and has almost definitely never been done in real life, but is theoretically possible. The landing happened off-screen, so we can only assume that's what they did.
Well ai can think of two reasons: it yhe ship was actually that far away as it looks and char used his body to decelerate himself to the plane. Or something in thr plan to stop his fall. That or because of his unique abilities made him Captain America
The pilot of his escort needs to accurately match char's speed going down then snatch or let him ride mid air. That will make you pass out if you are a normal human 😂😂😂😊

Funnels are a part of an MS' kit, wheather or not its being hard countered by Antidote, Psycho-Jammers, or NT-D is irrelivent. The point is to have the stopping power of an entire force attatched to a single unit. The systems above counter that and depending on the time period/universe of Gundam is what determines if they are obsolete, up to standard, or cutting edge. Beam weapons in The Calamity Era are near usless for instance, where as they are absurdly powerful in the early UC and Cosmic eras until they are made the norm.

I guess you could run INCOMs (The wired equivalent designed for use by non-newtypes) as part of a point defense system against MS but they're much harder to control then just normal guns and generally probably less powerful then what ships could run AA gun wise as MS deterrence. Funnels main strength as dabowler said is to give a singular MS the ability to put out fire quantity comparable to multiple MS, which puts the enemy in a situations where they have to track shots coming from every angle while also keeping an eye out for the Main MS that probably has better firepower then the funnels themselves. In most cases though Funnels and their AU equivalents are generally gated behind having the special trait of the series, in UC and X it's being a Newtype, 00 Fangs are all on Veda supported units, SEED Gun Pods/Dragoons are only ever used by Mu La Flaga and Coordinators, etc etc.

At the start of MGS, Char was the better pilot, no question about it. (Amuro still clearly had talent though, not to mention one of the first newtypes. Like, imagine if on that day on side 7 Fraw or somebody else instead of Amuro had been piloting the Gundam, UC would've been very different.) But by the One Year War's end Amuro had grown tremendously as both a pilot and a newtype, so much so that the RX-78-2 was having trouble keeping up with him, and when Char gets a superior mobile suit to the Gundam in the Zeong Amuro is still able to beat him. Then, by the time of CCA Amuro was pretty much unquestionably the best pilot in the UC.
Already falling off the rocks, RX-78-2 can't lift itself up and ascend with its backpack thruster, otherwise it'll mean it can fly on its own. In original series 1979, all RX-78-2 could do for air combat was jumping with its thruster to have altitude, which could only happen when it has its feet on ground. RX-78-2 can't fly.
Oh for fucks sake they need to stop teasing us and remake UC0079 already! For years they have teased us with clips like this in games, this one was cool but honestly we've had better that wasn't so CG and washed out colors like this, but even a remake of this quality would be amazing! Though WoM has left me thinking they don't really have the passion anymore. Gundam has been reduced to a regular seasonal show that can't even get 2 consecutive cours... It makes me really sad.

Oh for fucks sake they need to stop teasing us and remake UC0079 already! For years they have teased us with clips like this in games, this one was cool but honestly we've had better that wasn't so CG and washed out colors like this, but even a remake of this quality would be amazing!
Though WoM has left me thinking they don't really have the passion anymore. Gundam has been reduced to a regular seasonal show that can't even get 2 consecutive cours... It makes me really sad.
Well times have changed, and we already HAVE a 0079 remake in the form of movies like the Origin OVA and Cucuruz Doan's Island movie! So that is considered a remake, though not a complete one!
