Hello everyone welcome to the automotives,
today in this video we will discuss about the
intercooler.
.............................................INTRO...................................
In previous video we have seen the working of turbo
charger. in the circuit of turbocharger there is
component called intercooler, so today we will
cover the fundamentals of the Intercooler including
construction and location.
IN this video we will discuss,
Function of intercooler.
Importance of intercooler.
Construction of intercooler..
Location and Circuit of intercooler.
At last Working of intercooler.
FUNCTION:::
main function of intercooler is to remove the
excessive heat from the Intake air, it works on the
Principle of heat exchange and provides cooling to
the intake air coming from the turbocharger.
IMPORTANCE:::::::
if engine is subjected to hot air intake there are maximum
possibilites that causes the misfire and engine stalk. which
results in Decreasing performance and damage to the components!
on the otherside the density of air is inversly propotional to the
air tempreture.which means density of air inside combution chamber
decreases drastically which reduces the engine performace and efficiency.
intercooler reduces the tempreture of intake air which results in dense air
intake which increase the volumatric efficiency of engine which allows to burn
the fuel more efficiently.
CONSTRUCTION:::::
Construction of intercooler is quite similer to the Radiator.
intercooler consist of two main chamber, the first one is intake
chamber and second one is exhaust chamber. as per the name
intake chamber is connected with turbocharger while exhaust chamber
advances to the Intake manifold.
both chambers are interconnected with many highly thermal conductive
access tubes.
to increase the heat exchange capacity of the intercooler various thermal
fins are provided. these fins increase the thermal capabalities by increasing
the contect area.
LOCATION:::::
in the circuit of the intercooler the first component
is air filter.
air filter is connected with the turbocharger.
now turbocharger advances to the intercooler.
intercooler is connected with the intake manifold.
if we talk about location of the intercooler
in the front engine mounted car intercooler is
usually mounted behind the front radiator.
which is located in front of engine.
WORKING:::::::
intercooler works exactly same as the radiator.
on the principle of heat exchange.
normally turbocharger compresses the intake
air which results in higher tempreture of the
intake air. when this hot air passes though the
intercooler. access tubes abosorbs the heat and
decrease the tempreture of the air which results
in higher density. the heat absorbed from the
intake air is further supplied to the fins.
now fins decipates the heat directly to the atmosphere.
basically in the circuit
hot air coming from the turbocharges is partially cooled
by the intercooler which results in low tempreture more
dense air. this dense air improves the volumetric efficiency
of the engine which results in the higher combustion quality
and performace.
Excellent, clear description, probably the best video of how this works on the internet! Thanks.
IT IS AN AMAZING VIDEO. From explanation to depiction

Great explanation, thanks
Thank u
Very informative
very good one..good for you
best explanation !
Well explained but I'd suggest fixing the typos ( for example "desnity" -> "density")
Wow, this was amazing!
Great
Great Video!
excellent
Thank you
Intek er🤔🤔🤣🤣
Good job brother👍👍👍
Thank you, come again!
haha bro you're FUCKING hillarious. You should become a standup comedian.
Great for ignorant people such as myself. Now I have a better understanding the roles that my new air intake, intercooler, turbo, and intake manifold will perform..
These graphics really help!
ang turbo po mismo dapat bang linisin at papaano po. Hope you have a video
Thanks Sir
Can we cool down incoming air before entering turbo charger?
So cooling the air makes the car run better?
There are many people that smarter than enstein so they are.....
Indian tech guy
Super bro
Can I mix cold air from air cooler to hot air from turbo charger by venturi principle?
Mahindra M2dicr engine me konsa intercooler fit hosakta hai
I have a question.. if the intercooler is not working properly, what can happen to the Turbocharger?
How oil works in intercooler ? What the fungtion oil in intercooler ?
Why do i feel i gotta hide my credit card numbers listening to this man lol
How oil comes in the intercooler?
How many degrees an intercooler can cold the hot air?
what passes through the intercooler?? is it oil or air??
Air
Can you do an English version?
Do supercharger also need Intercooler?
Abhishek yes. Heat exchanger
Wheel Balancing Next
Thanks thanks very good superbly decription
what are the benefits of having an intercooler in terms of performance and fuel consumption?
Hi Ralph
The air wich get out of the turbocharger is hot due to the compression. And as a result, the density of air comming into the engine is not optimal. That's why we HAVE TO put an intercooler between the turbocharger and the intake manifold in order to reduce the temperature and increase the density of air.
More density = more oxygen = more BOOM = more performance.
Regarding the fuel consumption, I don't think the intercooler will have a big influence.
Hope it was helpful ;)
@@vitrygauthier1585 Thank you so much for the response, its just that my car is a turbocharged diesel engine but it came without an intercooler where other models same as mine had an intercooler. So that's why I was thinking of putting an intercooler. Will I lose air pressure since my air has to divert to the intercooler then back to the engine?
@@ralphralefeta1179 According to me, it is going to have a little bit of loss when the air is going to run in the leaner pipes of the intercooler ( I think you have the choice between intercoolers with several thickness: the thicker the pipes are, the less pressure you lose ). However, installing an intercooler could'nt be a bad idea according to the fact that turbocharger and intercooler work together (that's insane that your car don't have one, so that some other from the same model have one. Is your car a second hand vehicle ? ) I think that with an intercooler, all the power of your tubocharger will be harnessed.
@@vitrygauthier1585 well I trust your judgement,so should I continue with this plan or leave this car as it is?
@@ralphralefeta1179 Well I'm not a specialist or a mechanic , just a keen car lover. What I told you is just what I will do if it was my car.
Does adding intercooler to normally aspirated engine give a significant effect to its performance?
no, might even decrease performance. Adding an intercooler to a car which normally doesn't have 1 means adding tubing and the intercooler itself. the more distance air needs to travel inside your car means higher resistance and will degrade the performance of the car.
Bro I don't get how the air don't leak out the front and back I mean iyou can see right through the intercooler
I love your accent :D
you can't be serious Its like the most annoying sound in the world.
👍🏼
*temperature
*density
good video but... c'mon guys no excuse not running this stuff through a spell check ;-)
Really helpful
The Turbo diagram is totally wrong, The Turbo intake side has 1 Output which is Compressed air going to the intercooler .as exhaust side also has 1 input , which is engine hot air going into it, air filter is mosty attached directly to the inducer.
Howd I know the narrator wouldnt speak very clear English...
Nice presentation but pls better ur language and try to keep a genuine accent,it would sound way better
Great
Thank you
Good
