    Sir, thank you for your tutorial .. I have been able to see my 3d model on Google earth pc and have saved a kmz file but when I transfere it to my android phone (kmz file) and try to see the 3d building on Google earth mobile .. I don't see the 3D Model (Building). Is there any way to see the building on Google Earth mobile. That way I will be able to send the file to my clients and they can see it remotely. Thank You.

    I have a question as well as a suggestion
    I have a heavy file ( around 30 mb ) and it shows the name on the list but not in google earth itself
    and now that Google has a google earth studio could you do tutorials on that as well in relation to Sketchup

I mean adding information about building floors, how many water or energy usage per year etc... I can imagine a pop up window that gives me such information about the building by clicking on it. How to make these information visible in google earth and maps? hank you.

    I noticed you added a building onto an empty lot. Is there a way to import a sketchup model onto a site that already has buildings on it that could be or will be torn down and turn off just the 3d buildings that will be demoed in google earth? The intended purpose of this would be to show a client how the new home or building would look like with the surrounding 3d buildings.

      Hi Jeff - Honestly, I'm not 100% sure if there is anymore, since Google Earth went to the more satellite generated buildings, and SketchUp just replaced Google Map data with Open Street Map data. Sorry I don't have a better answer

    can i remove items for the preview of google earth? For example remove the trees in front of your new building or perhaps cut away the side of a hill that my building would be set into.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really - you could turn the terrain layer, buildings layer, and trees layer off, but just doing some kind of a cut isn't really going to work. Theoretically you could achieve this effect using layers in Photoshop if you wanted to get that complex in your workflow

  • @flequish

    Very helpful tutorial, but I have a question. What happens if the geometry you need to export to Google Earth is really big, like a country-size volume, and you need to orientate it properly in a North-South-East-West grid?. I've tried that and, initially, I don't get the results that I need.
    It should be great to have your input on this.
    Regards,
    Rafael.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two things really - first...I've never done anything with a country sized volume, so I'm not sure I'll be able to help with that. Second - "I don't get the results I need" doesn't give me any information as to what the actual problem is

    • @flequish
      @flequish 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are perfectly right. My question was not properly explained, so it is impossible to answer. Allow me to elaborate some further and thank your for your patience. Just suppose that I have to draw a cilindre around an airport (real problem, as I design air spaces). So the radius of the cilindre is 5 nautical miles, and the height is 1.000 feet. I can geolocate that drawing, because SketchUp allows me to "grab" the terrain surrounding the airport (more or less, runways are normally in the range of 9.800 feet lenght). But now I need to escalate to the surrounding air space; let's say, for the sake of the argument, that I need to draw the cilindre over Denver airport, and then, draw the state of Colorado "around" the cilindre. How could I geolocate such a big entity as "Colorado-sized" airspace?.
      That is my main issue here. Another thing is that SketchUp is not allowing to grab big extensions of terrain, like Colorado state, to keep on with the example. If you know any plugin dealing with that, I should be really useful for me (don't mind if there's a fee for that).
      Then again, excellent work in your tutorials, now subscribed BTW. Thanks again for your help and understanding.
      Regards,
      Rafael

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      By geolocating your model within SketchUp. If you import a map with the maps function, it should automatically be assigned a location, which will then dictate where the .kmz file is located in Google Earth. Thanks!

  • @davidpowell5906

    Great videos Justin. I'm wondering how your model was visible from street view. When I import my kmz file into Google Earth it look fine from aerial view but disappears once I get into street view. Any thoughts on why this would be happening. Thanks

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean street view like the actual photo street view? It wouldn't show up there anyway, as that view specifically views the stitched photos created by Google's camera technology. If you just mean the street level height view, I don't know. My thought is that it should show up when your camera is at that level...

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of it - you can still export a model file that you can open in Google Earth, but it doesn't integrate with the new buildings very well. Now the buildings in Google Earth are created from satellite images, so you can't really hide them the way you could before. However, if you turn the buildings off in Google Earth, you can bring your SketchUp models in and see them. Hope this helps!

    Thank you very much for this and all other videos! Extremely helpful!!! Thanks for sharing your experience! I learned a lot about Sketchup just from your videos.
    Im working on large project of new athletic complex. Im trying to project the views from interstate to choose right sizes for billboards to be visible from interstate.
    I imported proposed surface/topography as a part of my model into Google Earth. Problem I have is Im proposing to lower the terrain and half of my model is not visible due to overwrite by google terrain. It basically shows existing ground instead of proposed in the area where Im proposing to cut.
    Do you happen to know how to fix it? Or maybe a way around it? I guess I could try to model everything in Sketchup but its a lot of houses, trees and others.
    You mentioned importing satellite data to Sketchup is it possible to do? To import not only the landscape but all 3d buildings etc.
    Thank you very much!!!

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not aware of a way to override the terrain within Google Earth unfortunately. You might be able to import existing terrain using SketchUp Pro's add location function within SketchUp, but that's not going to help you in Google earth. Unfortunately, a lot of that info went away when SketchUp lost access to Google's Map data. If you're willing to pay for the extension, Placemaker can create the site context very quickly and easily - th-cam.com/video/8Yi8DiIwaDo/w-d-xo.html - Thanks!

      Hi Dom - unfortunately, unless you have the pro version of SketchUp, you can only import map data, not satellite data - this is something that just changed recently because Google removed access to their maps API. You can still export a file to google earth to open there. No one's really happy about it, but my understanding is the Google would not continue to make the data available at any price. In Sketchup i've used the tape measure to chek it, and all results perfect. But my model (30 mt x 25 mt in sketch up) into google earth results about 1 km.
    I've done a lot of tests, in different locations, but the problem is always the same.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had this issue before, so I'm not really sure how to help on this one. Maybe start by creating a very simple scale model in a new file and see if that works? From there you can narrow down if it's a problem with your model or a problem with SketchUp/Google earth? Maybe save your model as a new file and re-scale everything with the tape measure tool? Beyond that, not really sure... Good luck!

    When using Google Earth, how many of the available 3d models are custom made rather than mapped with airplane/satellite? Also, are user contributed models automatically updated/imported to my own Google Earth or how does this work? I'm trying to find a few models that are user created to see the difference in detail compared to Google's own, but haven't found any yet.

      I believe Google Earth moved completely to airplane/satellite mapped models a while ago. In SketchUp, you can search the 3D warehouse for location based models using the components toolbar in the tray, and by selecting "Nearby Models" from the dropdown arrow next to the little house. Please note, this will only work if your model is geolocated properly. Hope this helped!

    Does it get uploaded on the online google earth site as well? If not, how do we do that?

      I don't believe you can in Earth VR - but you should be able to use a viewer like SketchUp's or VRSketch

    Hey, I'm trying to import a KMZ file into google earth on a Mac, but it won't allow my model be imported?
    Can I use a different export?

      No clue - when I import a KMZ file into Google Earth on my PC, it works fine. Are you getting an error message?

    Has anyone figured out how to remove some of the 3d images around the site? I am finding when I bring in a model into Google Earth, I have a tree coming out of the building or half of a car, etc depending on what it on the site.

    • @Thesketchupessentials

      Unfortunately this is dues to Google's new way of mapping buildings and trees/plants (using satellite imagery). You could turn off the Google Earth 3D building geometry completely if you wanted to...

      yes you can just put something underneath it and then float your building on the blue axis just by a little so that it look like sitting on the ground but it is actually floating.

      @@Thesketchupessentials the problem ended up being the file size, the models will load as ling as they are under 20mb. They wont load if they are larger

    Hi. Is there a way to erase or hide existing elements (i.e. buildings, trees, cars, ponds, etc.) in google earth at project site so that your imported model won't be partially covered up by those existing elements?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, I don't think there is any more - this used to be an option back when the buildings in Google Earth were individual objects created in SketchUp, but since Google went to the automatically generated 3D from aerials, I think this option went away...

    Guess what... your video is pretty much useless, since Sketchup no longer provides Google Maps satellite images, making it virtually impossible to geolocate a model, accurately...especially when the model is going to be placed in a geographic area where there are no real landmarks, per se. Unbelievable that Sketchup would think this is a good idea. Indeed, it is a disaster for those of us actively designing facilities that will be built, wherein we need to see how this structure will appear in its actual surroundings. As my friend, Ern, likes to opine: "technology is great...until it isn't." Thank you, Ern. That about sums up this major fail, care of the fine folks at Sketchup.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still geolocate models, it's just that the location provider is different and the imagery isn't as good. That was a Google decision to remove access to the data, not something SketchUp could control. Also, you can still export KMZ files into Google Earth and view your models there, you just may have to turn off the Google Satellite created meshes if they share the same space.

      TheSketchUpEssentials Respectfully, sir, you make it sound as though this is a simple prospect, which it is not. I am a pretty fair Sketchup user, and 1) the geolocation map provided, now, inside of Sketchup is a very rough line drawing, with zero landmarks. What used to take me less than 30 seconds and a single trial to geolocate and export to GE, now took me two days of trial and error, and the resulting placement is still...only adequate. If you are an employee of either Google or Sketchup, I can imagine why you would come to their defense. However, real world: this is a disaster for us regular folk, and it is urgent that Sketchup attend to a solid solution.

      Could. It be it’s because SketchUp was bought by Trimble, a major major software and survey and geotechnical provider that Goggle hates?!?
