Import 3D Google Maps into SketchUp Using PhotoCatch (MacOS Photogrammetry)

  • We look at the process of creating a 3D model from Google Earth (or Google Maps) using the photogrammetry (MacOS) application called PhotoCatch. PhotoCatch creates a 3D file from images or a video. We import a video from a screen recording of Google Earth. The saved PhotoCatch 3D file is imported into SketchUp using an .OBJ importer plugin called Simlab Soft.

    This is great, thank you so much! Importing the model was really easy, although i somehow got 2 png texture files from photocatch, instead like you only 1. if i set up the texture in blender, it’s completely misaligned with my model…

      Hi. I could try to import the file into SketchUp and see if that's helpful. Feel free to send me an email if you'd like. I've started using the Google Earth Placemaker plugin for SketchUp. It's not free, but it's super easy once set up. th-cam.com/video/Wir-0l2z8sM/w-d-xo.html

      There must be a photogrammetry program for Windows. In theory, it would work the same. There a new Placemaker option that works to directly import into SketchUp. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/Wir-0l2z8sM/w-d-xo.html

    Fantastic video! Been looking for a way to do this on a Mac, but Photocatch won't work for me. It claims that 'You rmac does not support on-device processing' . Not sure how to fix this, or if you can. Any chance you could help?

    • @DEPICTIONILLUSTRATION

      Hmmm. Right. It runs on my M1 Macbook on MacOS 12. You would definitely need MacOS 12. Intel Mac may work if it has 16GB of RAM and a compatible AMD GPU with 4GB of VRAM. Other than that, I'm not sure I could offer much help.

    Hey brother thank you so much for coming up with this solution. Everything ive seen is for Windows using Renderdoc. Thank you thank you thank you, you are a great man!

    • @DEPICTIONILLUSTRATION
      @DEPICTIONILLUSTRATION  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, thank you, sir. You know, I did get Renderdoc to work in (Parallels) Windows on the Mac. But only using it once a month or so, the googlemaps-renderdoc-blender workflow gets errors in the process. It'll work one day, and then, it doesn't. Renderdoc definitely allows for a cleaner more accurate import. As with most 3D things on a Mac, it's always second best to a proper Windows setup.......Insert chagrin emoji here.....
