    Same thing happened to my Kubota Z421. After third time Kubota said it was a defective spring design and gave me the new improved spring . So far has not broke or come off.

    For the life of me, I could not get that darn spring back on. Then I saw your video and it went on like a charm on the first try. Thanks so much for the “spring on a string” trick. I just used the string that was already on a handle from my extendable pole pruner.

    Thanks for the tip. Tensioner bolts came out (factory must have not tightened them) and messed up the belt with just 80 hours on the mower. Was struggling to get the spring back on. You gave me an idea and I was able to do it basically the same way with a battery cable screw eye. Went on without issues.

    Yes, you helped me! Sure enough, 48 hours on the mower, and i was riding along today and heard it break. Couldn't steer any more or accelerate. I'm sending this video to my husband. Dumb spring.

    Mine broke at 33 hours. It was laying on the ground behind the mower. I had no idea where it went. The video was very useful. Thanks!
    Update...2nd one broke at 39 hours. Kubota has a problem.

    Just replaced the my spring ... with a two man operation , no need to jack up mower nor did we use a breaker bar ... my Son guided the spring in place while I pulled the tension with a nylon twine tied to one end of spring and the other one a piece of wood to help the old man out

  • @rjhall5712
    @rjhall5712 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice ! ... mine just let go ... approx. Between 25 - 30 hour range . Did you have to loosen the pully or could it be done as is ???

    Doing today and you did it right. The belt is listed as 67 and 68 inches. 67 being way too much on spring.

    Thanks so much for the video which helped to make replacing the spring easier. I have now done 80 hours and gone through 6 springs in 2 years. Kubota in Australia offer no assistance or answers and say I am the only one with this problem. Does anyone want to buy a second hand Kubota?

    I used a dog tie out spring, it uses a compression spring for tension just made a couple "S"hooks to equal the original extension spring offset

    Could you share the part number of the spring please? Thank you for the video. Part numbers would be the component to make it 100%

    In terms of symptoms, do you hear a clunk and then all it can do is mow in place? It won't move forward or back and the arms feel very heavy when you try.

    Good luck with that galvanized spring. I have a two year old Z421 and have broken four of those already. It is a terrible design and a weak idler arm. Good video though, I use similar methods in replacing the spring.

    I have replaced two of these with only 50 hrs.

    • @darrellstewart760
      @darrellstewart760 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kubota ended up replacing the galvanized spring with what I assume to be a steel spring (black) and that has helped some with the continuous breaking factor. They also replaced and redesigned the idler arm itself for increased strength but the spring kept slipping off the bushings and I have since burned up two transaxle fans because of it. Finally they installed oversize washers against the bushings to keep the spring from popping off but the belt still comes off the idler arm or left transaxle pulley about every other mowing cycle. It's in the shop now and Kubota is attempting to replace the bushings in the idler arm to try to correct a possible alignment issue. Parts have been on backorder for two weeks and they say it may be another two weeks before they arrive. It's been a nightmare. There are definitely issues with the belt drives on their Z421 series mowers.

      Wow, wasn’t aware of this issue before buying my Z422 last fall. Just checked and my spring is black so I guess it’s the upgraded version, though it looks like those aren’t fool proof either. Guess I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks
