    In this video I am sauger fishing Ohio river just below the Falls of the Ohio near the McAlpine locks and dam on the Ohio River. I am bank fishing for sauger using soft plastics such as swim baits, curly tail grubs, and flukes. Sander species (sauger, walleye, saugeye) tend to feed at night, so we are fishing just before dark. The sauger had formed a pattern of moving into shallow water just before dark to feed. This was the third night in a row fishing this pattern.

      Looking forward to this area opening back up after the corona virus pandemic. Been closed close to 6 months now.

      Have you tried heavy spoons or rattle traps. They also work good.

      Very dependent on water levels and hydro output. Its hit and miss. Walleye are few and far between at this dam.

    My favorite lure for sauger is the 5/8 blade bait vertical jigging, very effective method.

    Went to the same spot last Sunday. Fished for two hours and not a single bite.

      That's fishing for you. Not surprising though considering the water levels and clarity. Water has been high for a long while now and is quickly approaching flood levels. Water is 40 ft higher now than when this video was shot.

    Catch them the same way at the Hannibal Locks and Dam on the Ohio. Nice Sauger and monster walleye from late fall into March

    Bump, really enjoying your videos. Thank you! Went down to McAlpine today. Not really familiar with area. Wanted to fish the “upper”. Thought I needed to go to visitor center to get there but it was barricaded “temporarily closed”. How do I get to where you’re fishing here?

    • @thebumpchannel
      @thebumpchannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They have restricted access beginning at start of Corona in March. I think they also have some repairs or construction going on as there is a large maintenance barge there.
      Its unclear when it will reopen to the public.
