    I love fishing for these and they are delicious to eat. I fish here at the hydro plant. It’s right behind my house. Twister tails is what we call those baits. I need to restock. They used to have places where they sold them of all sorts, sizes and colors cheap. Kind of like a flea market but I can’t find them anymore.

    I fish the Ohio up around Pittsburgh and hard pass on eating fish out of there. I know Alcosan (treatment plant for Pittsburgh just below confluence of Allegheny and Mon) puts the water back cleaner than what's in the river, but still not doing it. We catch all kinds of stuff from channel, flatheads, hybrid bass, smallmouth, caught a 6lb carp the other night, watched a guy pull out a 34" muskie couple weeks ago, walleye. You never know what you are pulling up if using crawlers. I want to give jigging for the walleye and sauger a try. I have never caught a sauger before but a guy I run into down there jigs a lot and said he catches them on the regular. Nice video and tight lines...

    I eat either walleye or sauger out of the Ohio River three to four times a year. I fish in Ohio below the New Cumberland Lock and Dam. Ironically, over the past two years I have been catching more walleye than sauger. The sauger seem not to be as plentiful as they once were, but the walleye seem to have increased in population. I occasionally catch a jumbo perch below New Cumberland and I will eat those also. Besides sauger, walleye, and perch the only other species I occasionally eat are Ohio River crappie.

      @@thebumpchannel I'm in Ohio just across the river from Wheeling WV. It's not bad up here but I grew up on this river and remember what it was like in 60's and up. I was a teenager in 70's and was fishing all of the time. I live very close to the river.Catfish and carp were about all that could live in it. Bass, crappie and other species just were not in there unless they came down a creek . I mercy killed many fish covered in large tumors, 3 eyes, no eyes, you get it. the steel mills and plating plants dumped acids all of the time. every once in awhile there would be a fish kill. The fine was so small they would just dump at night and if they got caught they would just pay the fine. Only the strong survived in that river then. It's much different now and they really need to try to keep it that way.

    In Ohio our EPA has a website that provides detailed info on fish consumption. It varies by species and location. Your state EPA probably has something similar. In Ohio it is reportedly safe to eat sauger from the Ohio River once per week.

      Overall I think evenings are best. See this video: th-cam.com/video/B9ts2dhxvTM/w-d-xo.html
      I have caught plenty early and mid day as well, but evening bite seems most consistent. I use anything from 2" to 4". Not sure the bait size matters all that much. Have caught just as many bigger ones on 2-2.5" as I have a 4" presentation.

      I see. Here in ohio we dont have a size limit just a bag limit which I think is in a way a bad idea alot of our bigger fish get taken so I think that has alot to do with why people seem to be catching less and less fish every year

    Not sure why people make a youtube video and start giving out bad info like they're the best in the world.
    1) Why does everyone that catches a sauger have to explain what they look like?
    2) dusk and dawn are not always the best times, depends a lot on water clarity.
    3) 3/8 ounce jigs aren't that hard to find, they even have them at walmart.
    4) From a boat in 20 or so feet of water a 1/2 ounce will work, but not from shore? 1/8 ounce works great (Yes even in current).
    5) Curly tails are not the best. Bucktail tipped with a minnow kills on every river, even when we fish the Ohio. Blade baits too
    6) I've used 1/8 ounce in faster current than that.
    7) Even DNR have trouble sight telling the difference from a sauger/saugeye.

    • @bmassakah
      @bmassakah 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      suzy mcalister why so angry about this? None of the info is bad, just what has worked best for him. No one wants to lose a bunch of (more expensive) buck tail jigs and blade baits all day long either so I’d agree with cheap jigs and grubs. Settle down

    • @thebumpchannel
      @thebumpchannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the comment. Bucktails and minnows produce well, they are just much more expensive. That what's so great about fishing is there isn't just 1 way to do it. We are bank fishing and have a decent walk in so don't really want to haul minnow buckets etc. Also, this area is near downtown Louisville which is sort of a "bait desert". There are no bait shops nearby, most are on outer edges of town.
      I have tried 2 Walmarts and Academy nearby and could not find any cheap jigs larger than 1/4 oz. Bass Pro has some but nearly twice as expensive. Buying online works best for me.
