In Colorado we used to catch those hybrids but we called them Wipers. They were a cross between stripers and white bass. If ya look on the toungs they have two patches of grinders. They are a blast to catch.
Born and raised right there on Riverside Dr. We used to slide down those flood gates when I was a kid. Watching this sure brings back memories. Thanks for posting.
I've fished this area for 50 years...we would walk across the fast water to get further out. I used flat bottoms, bass boats, kayaks, canoes and even crossed over with the gates open in car inner tubes! I've caught every kind of fish in those waters with the exception of trout. Seen river otter, beavers, hellbenders, bald eagles, huge soft shell turtles. It's the best fishery for 500 miles! It's also a very dangerous place with slick rocks, sudden drop-offs into deep water and when the gates are open or just cracked open the current can be deadly.
You are way down there dude. I'm in the Wheeling area. Used to fish at the old dam about a half mile away and they blew it out for Hanibbal lock and dam . We have Pike Island though not to far a drive north. Maybe 15 minutes to 20 minutes from home to the dam.
Hey I’m super close to here and getting into fishing, you know if there’s any hybrids this time of year around there or what kind of fish there are around this time?
Gotta say it again,,, EXCELLANT content! THANKS! The more you describe, the more I like it! ;>) Have you ever been on the 'OGF forums'? There's an Ohio River fishing section, where I'm constantly watching, looking for any heads-up reports. NOT very many GOOD REPORTS UP HERE,,,, Wellsville, Liverpool, PA line. MAN, I sure wish we had the blues like you guys have down there!! One thing I'm wondering about? When you're out there in your boat, fishing the white water & backwashes, I DON'T SEE ANY MARKER Buoys???? We're not allowed to get anywhere near the white water. We have to stay 300-400 yards below the dam. usually no farther up than the end of the long lock wall!? What Gives? BTW,, Love the drone footage,,,,, is it yours?
This was in the evening, I’m not sure if there still there like that now that the water is cooling off but there might still be some trying to get up stream
License question for ya, when I lived in Ohio as a kid I had my fishing license and fished several areas like Lake Isabella, Little Miami River, etc. I never had the opportunity to fish the Ohio. If I was a current Ohio resident, and wanted to fish the Ohio River would I need an Ohio license or Kentucky? Would it depend on which bank I'm fishing? What about on a boat?
I live in Kentucky and I know with a kentucky license I can legally fish both the Kentucky side and indiana side of the river. I don't know for certain about Ohio and Kentucky, though I would assume the same would go there. I believe its considered a shared waterway
As long as you have an Ohio fishing license you can fish any where on the river, same goes for ky and Indiana residents. But if you cross the river to fish ky or Indiana you have to use there fishing regulations and can not fish in there tributaries
Heck yeah man, awesome vid! I'm landlocked in Mississippi but my local spillway is full giant of hybrid stripes with the occasional mid sized true striper. Those fish certainly know how to pull! I mostly post hybrid videos so I'll be subbing for sure! Keep it up brother!
Nice fishing and nice video! Keep up the good work. I would just encourage you to avoid putting fish that's going to be released on the rocks. They're more sensitive than people generally think and their eyes get damaged as well.
I used to throw into that all the time when I was a kid my cousin would take me there. And then I would hit the pay lakes 2! catfish and trout. Of course I live in jupiter FL now so you enjoy that 👍
Good stuff..Ive been doing pretty good in the boat up there as well. You are welcome to get out in the boat with me , just hit me up..Im off every Monday -Thursday if you want to get out
@@RiverBloodfishing okay cool would this still work with the current weather? My grandfathers been talking about going down there. I snag slot of carp to is it legal there?
@@outdoorswithkaden1414 the water is good right now, I’m not sure if the carp are in there thick but I know you can take all the Asian carp you want I’m not sure about the Buffalo and common carp if there is a limit l, the hybrid bite has been a little slow but the catfish have been biting as long as the air pressure isn’t to high
@@RiverBloodfishing hey man do you have TikTok or Facebook? We are thinking of going Tuesday and never have been. Don’t know where to drive to. Please let me know. Have a good night 👍
I've fished there and didn't catch a thing lol. I've had my best luck fishing where the creek meets the river up the way a bit. I caught a 17lb rainbow trout there one time.
You would think fish would evolve to know what a hook looks like ay? Like an instinct that just says no.. not that? I'm happy it hasn't happened but ya know..

I use any white soft plastic from 3 to 4 inch long and match the jig head weight to the water flow
