Great pattern! I've made 2 so far, but instead of crocheting 2 separate red and white stripes and sewing them together I just started with one row of red, changed yarn and did 2 rows white, then another row of red then twisted and finished off with closing it off the same way you did with sewing it up through the red stitches.
That is exactly what I was thinking of doing to cut out probably 20 mins of time sewing the two together lol. I hate the sewing part because I suck at it!
I'm pretty new to crocheting. That being said, I had a little trouble properly twisting and stitching my first attempted candy cane. I also had trouble inserting the pipe cleaners into the cane without them getting stuck or not going all the way through. Most likely stitching error on my part as well as the pipe cleaners being a little too flimsy. My second attempt went much better! Instead of inserting the pipe cleaners after stitching, I actually wrapped a few together and sewed the candy cane together around it. It was a lot easier to do. Just wanted to share in case anyone else was having a similiar problem. I really appreciate this video! Thank you for sharing this with everyone. I can't wait to make these for family and friends this Christmas :)
Hola que fantástica idea De todos los vídeos que he visto hasta ahora este es el que más me gusta y mejor queda, lo pondré en práctica, gracias x aportarnos esta maravillosa idea 😊❤👍
Thank you for an easy to follow tutorial! I work with disabled adults and am currently working on making some Christmas decorations so this will DEFINITELY come in handy! Can't wait to get started!
I love these❤️🤍♥️🤍I also love the idea that you have in your comments of putting several in a jar as decor or as added embellishments for gifts. I think they would also make nice 'toys' for babies/toddlers around Christmas time & they would also look nice in a wreath.♥️🤍Thank you for the tutorial ❣️
Hey there! Sorry if you answered in the video (I understand the pattern so I'm kinda skimming through 😅) Is there a reason why you're making two rows twice and stitching together instead of making four rows all together?
Depends on what you're looking for! But I think this candy cane would be a great accessory to wrap a gift with, it could also be hung on a Christmas tree, or attach a string to the top to make it an ornament. Currently I have several of these crocheted candy canes displayed in jar. :)
I was thinking that also. I'm going to try just crocheting the red strip, then add the two rows of white then the rows of red again all as one piece. I didn't understand making them separately then sewing the strips together.
@@amandabarlow6527 The reason I do red, then white, then red is so that when you twist the candy cane, you will be sewing red on red, so the stitches to sew it together are completely hidden. If I was sewing red on white, you would see the stitches. Does that answer your question?
Hmm, I'm sorry for the trouble! Check at minute 9:39 for how to start sewing it into a tube to get the twist. Feel free to email me a picture at hello@theresascrochetshop.com, and I'll see how I can help!
My grandson is so so so really Happy with all the fast-foot I have done following your videos!!! I have used them as hats for his AMONG Us collection. Thank you so much!!❤❤❤
If I were to chain 37 (so make it half the length), would it still work? Trying to make a mini Christmas themed toy for my cat :) Also, what would you recommend using if I don’t have a yarn needle? Is there a way to stitch with just my hook?
Hi, thanks for your comment! I think if you were to chain just half, it would make a much fatter candy cane. I would recommend if you want a much smaller one to use a thinner yarn weight and a smaller crochet hook. I'm not sure what a good substitute would be for a yarn needle! I think stitching with your hook would be very difficult. Maybe you have a needle on hand with a hole big enough to fit the yarn? Otherwise, these yarn needles are only a couple dollars (and get the bent tip if you do buy one; they're the best!).
@@theresascrochetshop the pipe cleaners were too short not too long. I had the same issue. Thanks for the tutorial, but the end result was a huge disappointment 😢
@@jillfriesen8235 Oh! I see, the candy cane tube was longer than the pipe cleaners. I’m sorry it didn’t turn out the way you wanted! It could be a difference in yarn, or that not enough stitches were skipped when beginning to sew it up into the tube? I wonder if you could add length by twisting more pipe cleaners onto the ends of your other pipe cleaners? I’m sorry you were disappointed! I’m always happy to help answer questions if I can.
You may have shorter pipe cleaners. They come in lots of lengths and thicknesses. The ones I have right now from Amazon are 12 inches, but they have longer and shorter.
Ohh you know what lol I just figured that out when I was crocheting it rn… plus it’s a little uneven if you do crochet it in one single pattern. Sorry! And thanks! 😊 🎄

This comment has saved me as I hate sewing so trying this now. Just new to crochet

Will this make a good Christmas gift for my best friend?

This is the best tutorial! Thank you for making it slow and great for beginners :)
Aww so glad it was easy to follow. Thank you!
I’m wanting to use a bulky yarn weight 5. How can I shorten the amount of stitches so it’s still keychain or ornament size thank you
Great idea. Tu
Hi thanks for this also could i not sow it together and just do them all at once
Thanks for your comment! What do you mean by doing them all at once?

Solo una pregunta mas, si deseo hacerlo mas pequeño el baston solo quito puntos y que quede en numero par???
I love make candy canes when I make people buy them from me I need make more of them
Awesome! Thank you so much !! 🍭
Super cute! I can't wait to make some! Can you tell me the length of your finished canes? I want to experiment making them in different sizes.
Thank you!! Yes, with medium weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook, the finished candy cane will be 6 inches tall.
Thanks! I just made a mini one as a tester to use on a gift card sized crocheted gift bag. Chained 24 to start.
Great pattern will be doing some if these for my tree what size pipe cleaners did you use please x
Thanks so much! The pipe cleaners I used are 11.5 inches long.
Can you make these smaller? I’ve never made one but I am assuming that you can?
so cool! and cute!! I wrote down the pattern for another time as well as this one!
Yay! Thanks so much!
When I sewed them together to get the tube mine didn’t twist to get the twisted effect. What am I doing wrong ?

When I was making the candy cane i accidentally made the one side of the cane to loose and it was a bit wonky but overall I liked the pattern💗

Twist a few together top to bottom to make the pipe cleaners longer.
Seems like sooo much sewing. But beautiful
Why didn’t you just continue the rows and not cut the yarn? It would’ve been easier and you wouldn’t need to sew the two pieces together 😐
Hi! Great question. Crocheting the candy cane in separate rows and then sewing them together creates more of the spiral-effect of a candy cane.
Ohh you know what lol I just figured that out when I was crocheting it rn… plus it’s a little uneven if you do crochet it in one single pattern. Sorry! And thanks! 😊 🎄
