Yes, they did the tree thing in the campaign, but it was originally a feature of the Fenthras bow. It would sprout a tree from the corpse of its victim, but only if it was a final blow. Here they turned it into a combo move, and it was brilliant.
I loved how they moved up the episode where Vox Machina went to Hell. Originally, Scanlan summoned the demon from a scroll he had and then had to cast dominate monster on it to attack Vorugal. They hid and watched the fight hoping they would kill each other. Instead, Scanlan lost control of the demon and it turned on them so they were forced to fight. Grog split the demon in two by its legs like a wishbone. Also, the Plate of the Dawnmartyr was in the Fire Plane and was the last vestige Vox Machina got. This makes it feel more chaotic similar to how most of Vox Machina's plans tended to go. The animators and cast really upped Ripley's importance in the show. I have a feeling her fight and Keyleth's earth trials will be in the next 3 episodes.
The combination of knowing the deaths from the campaign and knowing the cast has talked about changing things up made this episode so anxiety inducing.
I tried some new stuff with this edit, I hope you all enjoy! Let me know what you think in the comments!

Thankful for y'all who refresh my memory on the specific details of campaign 1. remember a lot but everything gets blurred together.
The team at the start was hunting a "chimera." A multi-headed mythical creature with goat, lion, snake and scorpion parts all mashed together.
Thanks for that!
When the guitar riff starts as the demon and dragon squares off did anyone else feel like the fight opening music from Pacific Rim?
I don't remember a lot from Pacific rim, but the music worked in the moment

Good call! I'm excited/nervous for these next three episodes

Exactly. Usually those kind of fake outs don't get me, but they got me in this episode. I'm really nervous about the next 3!
TREE-ALITY or possibly ARBOR-ALITY
Ohhhhh I like those! TREE-ALITY: KEYLETH WINS!
8:53: that was bad and you should feel bad :p
