The live action leaves the sense of dread at minimum instead of raveling in it. There is only a sleeve of "terror camp" and "good vs evil" left. It's by design.

Had always heard Death Note being regarded as one of the best anime, but I just kept pushing it back for some reason. But when you guys said it will be the next anime watch after AOT, I was like alright, time to watch it. And so far, it hasn’t disappointed. Banger opening song too,
The Oak, I ALSO can talk about Death Note for hours. I recently had a whole discussion about it and I couldn’t stop talking about it. I’m so happy to see you guys reacting to such an amazing, thrilling classic!!! I remember watching Death Note on my couch at night, hoping it never got taken off Netflix when it first appeared. I’ve watched it many times since then. I absolutely love the Sub, and Death Note, and many other anime, are also really good in Dub.
When I started, I thought it was going to be a “will they, won’t they” use it and maybe they’re gonna kill the school bully. PLOT TWIST. OMFG. This is a SMART show. It is SMART. Excited for you all to watch.
from AOT to Death Note!!???? Both my all time favs (I mean most anime fans all time favs but still) You guys are freaking amazing! So glad I found this channel 🥰
Just a short masterpiece of a show where there is only 'battle of wits' only between two geniuses... And yet a biggest banger of a show. Literally, words fall short for this astonishing show. This was my first ever anime binge. And i have no regret in saying that it's still in my top 5. Every episode is like a drug, you can't end binging it. That's why i finished it in a day. 😅 I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this show. Can't wait for every sunday. PS : The two main characters that are in this show are still one of the most iconic characters ever. You guys are never gonna forget them. That's how they f*** your minds. 😁✌️
So glad you're doing the dubbed version. You need it in your own language to really take in all the details and the voice acting in the final episode is outstanding in the English dub.
26:30 Oak with his innocent eyes saying incredulously, "but... they haven't done anything wrong?" as Light writes Lind L. Tailor's name on the Death Note... oh my sweet summer child.
26:28 in his mind, he did do something wrong. He said a little while before that anyone who stands in the way of creating his perfect world are the ones who are truly evil. In Light's eyes, he doesn't see it as evil because to him the ends justify the means.
Thank god for the DUB! Nothing wrong with watching subbed anime but DN is great dubbed. If the dub isn’t bad, there’s nothing wrong with watching it like this!
I'm glad that you guys chose English dubbed for Death Note. I'm not a dub person myself but Death Note is one of those animes where I highly recommend in English dub. The sub is good as well especially with Mamoru Miyano voicing Light but the dub, in my opinion is better especially with L, Light, and Ryuk's voice. Their English voice are just chef's kiss. ❤️👌 Edit: Guys, if you dislike or hate the dub then better don't reply here and just don't watch their DN reactions. To my fellow subwatchers who are toxic, please don't spread your toxicity here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you guys are just gonna trash on the dub, then just please don't watch Badd Medicine's reaction. Thank you and have a good day!
So fun fact, this story has a legit musical adaptation, and it's genuinely like... Top 3 adaptations of the story. Japan loves to give successful anime and the like stage plays, but to my knowledge they're rarely musicals, and they're even more rarely one of the absolute best ways to view the story. Good on ya, Death Note. You finally got a live action adaptation everyone loves. Who'd have thunk all ya needed was to make it a musical?😂
The Death Note Musical was actually how I broke into Death Note!! I never watched anime but was big into musicals and saw Frank Wildhorn was working on it, so I listened to the English demo and was instantly fascinated!! The songs were obviously FIRE!!! And I binged the anime afterward
Funny how that works sometimes, the Percy Jackson series was the same way. Despite movies and TV show adaptations, the Broadway musical is still the best adaptation by far
I feel sad that you wont hear the amazing laughs and original voice acting of Miyano Mamoru..but oh well, it is what it is Atleast this specific english dub is not as bad as other animes and it will be way easier for you to pay attention to what is happening
I love mamoru so much but there are certain parts of the dub that I like more than the sub, like the last speech for example, the dub actor really does the most in it.
@@RajeshChodisetty it is not a "counterpart" as japanese is the original language of this series, the English dub is the counterpart. That is like saying the original english language in "the titanic" movie is the counterpart.
Wow thanks to all of you who asked them to watch this. Of all the anime, this is right up their alley. The English voice acting is great so they can focus on what's happening on screen and not miss any important details. I can already see them adding a plushie/figure of the characters on their desk lol
Death Note suprised wordly audience with how serious and creative anime can be - i remember my non-anime friends getting shocked and hooked immediately when it was released ^^
this is gonna be so awesome yess death note is peak. I absolutely love Light he's such a good main character. I find it so funny how quickly he develops a god complex, already on the first episode, like he had it all along and was just waiting for the right push
That's actually only 1, I believe its just different spellings of the same name because light didnt actually know how to spell the guys name so he trial and error'd it
Apparently in Japanese even slight variations of the Kanji (letters) can give the Name an entirely different pronouncation/meaning thats why if someone tells you their name they might add "with the pronouncation for" while explaining it. As the poster above me stated already Light just wrote every variation he could think of.
Being 37 now and rewatching Death Note I realized just how insane Light sounds. All that power in the hands of a teenager is insane regardless of how intelligent they are 😂😂
In manga, Light is self aware even called himself childish (during hospital scene when he is with Mr Yagami and L) The thing is Light knows how naive this idea is BUT it's his arrogance that makes him believe he is above everyone else and pull this off even means is wrong, he will get the end result
For Oak, that's a great point about the Japanese language having a way with conveying strong emotion and why sub is often preferred by fans. I do like that you guys will also watch dub which brings me to add that I feel some dubs are really Really well done as the English VAs over the years have adapted their voices to MATCH that kind of powerful emotion we hear in Japanese. It's really cool and I can't wait to see what you guys watch next! :>
4:21 Light wasn't sure how Takao's name was spelled so he tried every variation. Ref killing the guy for armed robbery. Light's killing people *accused* of crimes - he's not waiting for trials or even looking at any evidence except the public accusation.
Love that you guys are reacting to this, the conversations about the episodes are interesting. Death Note was the first anime I ever watched, definitely one of my faves.
I audibly gasped when I saw the title, I've officially subscribed after watching this channel on and off. This show introduced me to anime and it was absolutely everywhere in 2011/2012. You guys made the right call to watch the dub, it's regarded as one of the best dubs out there, plus it's very dialogue heavy. I can already tell The Oak is going to love this show, how he reacted to L tricking Light into revealing his location was my exact reaction the first time too. It's such a smart show. I'd be okay with literally an hour long discussion after each episode!!
It's a shame that you won't get the mastery that is Miyano Mamoru's voice acting as the original Light, but this dub isn't half bad so it's alright. Hope you'll enjoy the rest!
I'm so happy you guys decided to react to this series. Death Note is one of my favorite series of all time. I have the entire manga at home as well. The anime (especially the first half) is pretty faithful but they do of course slim down certain parts to keep the pacing going. One funny thing to note about this show is that the author of the original manga, Tsugumi Obah initially published this story in Shonen Jump, a manga magazine aimed at teenagers. He said he wanted it that way cause he knew teenagers wouldn't get too bogged down in philosophical aspects of the story and could just enjoy the ride. 😁
Regarding Oak's comment on the death penalty (well said by the way). In South Africa, the death penalty is illegal, because everyone has the capacity to change for the better, Nelson Mandela was one such person. His regrettable past, was the catalyst for his incredible growth as a person, and through him, a country. He just needed some time to think about it, and someone willing to listen.
For your information, there IS a live action! Two movies were made in 2006, with Tatsuya Fujiwara (who was also in Battle Royale) as Light, and some more stuff later. I only watched the two 2006 movies but they diverge from the original plot at some point because they couldn't fit the whole series into two movies, so they shortened it and changed the ending. I recommend not looking them up until you're done with the anime in order to avoid spoilers.
@MissRichTea that's what I do too with their reaction videos, sometimes comment on full ones, but mostly watch the full reaction, then do my comment for the YT cut 🙂👍❤️💙 (sadly couldn't watch full cut for Death Note though cause couldn't find any streaming service had in UK)
OMG YESSS!!!!! I'm so happy you guys are watching my second favourite anime of all time!!! The dub for Death Note is great, although it's a shame you'll miss out on Mamoru Miyano's voice, since he's the best voice actor ever
One thing I love about this anime, and manga, is that it doesn't waste time. The author planned on it ending on a specific number of chapters and didn't stray from it.
I really REALLY hope they watch the Netflix live action after finishing to see why most people didn't have their hopes high when One piece had it's live action announced
@@Vozird ikr one piece live action was a miracle...well you could say that all the previous failures created a path for it's success, so i hope more good adaptations occur!
Light is drawn and presented as he is, being handsome, smart, charismatic and the like has to do with some nuances surrounding Japanese culture and how the youth at the time were feeling so disillusioned with the nation at the time. Light is meant to be a representative of said disillusioned youth and what not. Among a whole heap of other things that, again, are also steeped in Japanese culture at the time. Basically, there's a lot of nuance in this series' background that wouldn't really be naturally apparent to the audience unless you yourself grew up in Japan, or at least lived there long enough to have an understanding of their culture around that time. There's any number of video essays on that kind of stuff for you to watch after you're finished with the show tho, and they're all made by people way more qualified to get into that kinda talk than I am currently, so I'm not gonna get into it myself here. What I will get into is that there's a bit of a presentation difference between the anime and manga to keep in mind as you're watching the anime. The religious imagery has been dialed up to 11. The anime, as I like to put it, is made largely from Light's perspective. So you have all these big shows of religious imagery and symbolism that simply weren't in the manga. For example, Light's "I will be the God of that new world" at the end of episode 1. In the manga, OBVIOUSLY you didn't have the music, but even the lighting choice of that scene that makes Light seem almost holy like the God he espoused that he'll become... Yeah that wasn't really in the Manga either. So yeah, there's lots of little things that point to the anime being a much more Light centric narrative, where the music, shot composition, and all that paint him in such a way to where how we see him falls more in line with how HE sees himself. The Manga is much less biased in how things are framed, or perhaps just biased the other way around depending on who you ask. So yeah. Try not to get too sweeped up in the production's attempt to fool you like some people do. He may be the MC, but make no mistake, Light IS the villain in this story. No ands, ifs, or buts about it.
It's amazing how lucky L was that his opponent turned out to be a childish schoolboy with a dream of becoming a god. I wonder what L would have done if the killer had changed his place of residence, left the country, or stopped killing?
Think i only watched couple episodes back in 2009, but remember nothing about it other than names written down they die, such an interesting premise, I'm glad that i can now properly watch it & start my DN journey along with you guys! 🙂❤️ & very glad that you're watching it in dub too 👍 Light's moral compass is out the window & letting the power go to his head, "I am justice" what a line to end on & it's only Episode 2! 😮

The live action leaves the sense of dread at minimum instead of raveling in it. There is only a sleeve of "terror camp" and "good vs evil" left. It's by design.
I have the morbid curiosity to watch them react to the netflix adaptation of Death Note.
@@danielruiz8259I could def see them doing that after finishing the series like watching the shitty ATLA live action movie after finishing the series lmao
the 2006 Japanese casts are perfect, especially L
death note gets the treatment the resident evil games get... easy to do but always get crapped on
Had always heard Death Note being regarded as one of the best anime, but I just kept pushing it back for some reason. But when you guys said it will be the next anime watch after AOT, I was like alright, time to watch it. And so far, it hasn’t disappointed. Banger opening song too,
Just curious, do you like Light Yagami ?
Yeah most people like the second one more but the first one is my favorite.
Watch it in dub for the best experience.
Second half is not as good as the first one for a reason that I won’t disclose, but the series as whole is a masterpiece and iconic
@EmyN It is a step down, but it's still an 8 or 9/ 10 in the second half. The first half was simply a 10/10.
Excited for you all to watch.
hahahaha me too. I thought Light was a hero who would slowly get a little... gray. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA how naive I was
Never expected this Anime to fall in your channel. You're in for a ride.👍
from AOT to Death Note!!???? Both my all time favs (I mean most anime fans all time favs but still) You guys are freaking amazing! So glad I found this channel 🥰
Just a short masterpiece of a show where there is only 'battle of wits' only between two geniuses... And yet a biggest banger of a show.
Literally, words fall short for this astonishing show. This was my first ever anime binge. And i have no regret in saying that it's still in my top 5.
Every episode is like a drug, you can't end binging it. That's why i finished it in a day. 😅
I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this show. Can't wait for every sunday.
PS : The two main characters that are in this show are still one of the most iconic characters ever. You guys are never gonna forget them. That's how they f*** your minds. 😁✌️
Wouldn't call it a short show. If anything the show was longer than it needed to be, but that's my own opinion.
@leespn4396 👍
@@leespn4396 30ish episodes? For a shonen anime (at that time) thats definitely quite short.
So glad you're doing the dubbed version. You need it in your own language to really take in all the details and the voice acting in the final episode is outstanding in the English dub.
nah the original dub is on another level
26:30 Oak with his innocent eyes saying incredulously, "but... they haven't done anything wrong?" as Light writes Lind L. Tailor's name on the Death Note... oh my sweet summer child.
Oak always stays quiet and then comes with the best insights.
If the dub isn’t bad, there’s nothing wrong with watching it like this!
stoked to see your guys’s reaction through this series! 🔥
They getting cultured fr
I'm glad that you guys chose English dubbed for Death Note. I'm not a dub person myself but Death Note is one of those animes where I highly recommend in English dub. The sub is good as well especially with Mamoru Miyano voicing Light but the dub, in my opinion is better especially with L, Light, and Ryuk's voice. Their English voice are just chef's kiss. ❤️👌
Edit: Guys, if you dislike or hate the dub then better don't reply here and just don't watch their DN reactions. To my fellow subwatchers who are toxic, please don't spread your toxicity here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you guys are just gonna trash on the dub, then just please don't watch Badd Medicine's reaction. Thank you and have a good day!
Plus, it’s worth it for the iconic meme
Me too!
The fun fucking sucks😂 it's only good compared to other dubs
If I being honest, I prefer manga more.
@@fugosfork7907let’s not lie now, the dub is great, especially light, his iconic speech at the very end sounds way better dubbed than subbed
@@bookworm598 Amen to that.
I feel sad that you wont hear the amazing laughs and original voice acting of Miyano Mamoru..but oh well, it is what it is
Atleast this specific english dub is not as bad as other animes and it will be way easier for you to pay attention to what is happening
I love mamoru so much but there are certain parts of the dub that I like more than the sub, like the last speech for example, the dub actor really does the most in it.
"not as bad" its very good.
I am gonna be honest english dub of fmab and death note are far better than japanese counterparts
@@RajeshChodisetty it is not a "counterpart" as japanese is the original language of this series, the English dub is the counterpart.
That is like saying the original english language in "the titanic" movie is the counterpart.
hope they keep the English dub, for the near sighted viewers 🙏🙏🙏
Wow thanks to all of you who asked them to watch this. Of all the anime, this is right up their alley. The English voice acting is great so they can focus on what's happening on screen and not miss any important details. I can already see them adding a plushie/figure of the characters on their desk lol
You guys are dropping some huge bangers lately, I'm very happy!! :)
I really like how the oak thinks man. Always look forward to his views.
First meal for every anime fan
Mine was Hetalia, lol
It was for me too .
1 st Death Note
2 nd Attack on Titan
3 rd Hunter x Hunter
I was watching Peak after Peak
First holy communion 💀 Steins;Gate or Durarara would be good picks for the Badd Medicine crew too
@@DrizzleDrizzleNeverDies 💀
mine was dragon ball and saint seiya.
Death Note suprised wordly audience with how serious and creative anime can be - i remember my non-anime friends getting shocked and hooked immediately when it was released ^^
Yup. They are getting to the GOAT's frfr!
I personally think dub is the best choice for this anime
this is gonna be so awesome yess death note is peak. I absolutely love Light he's such a good main character. I find it so funny how quickly he develops a god complex, already on the first episode, like he had it all along and was just waiting for the right push
4:21 there's a lot written in that notebook already 😂
That's actually only 1, I believe its just different spellings of the same name because light didnt actually know how to spell the guys name so he trial and error'd it
@@absolutelyliberated1357 Fair. I can't read Japanese so I just assumed they were all different
Apparently in Japanese even slight variations of the Kanji (letters) can give the Name an entirely different pronouncation/meaning thats why if someone tells you their name they might add "with the pronouncation for" while explaining it. As the poster above me stated already Light just wrote every variation he could think of.
@@PacificEgg Yeah its understandable, most people dont notice and I sure didnt on my first few watches
Thank you so so so much for doing the Dub. The VA that plays Light truly does a great job.
Being 37 now and rewatching Death Note I realized just how insane Light sounds. All that power in the hands of a teenager is insane regardless of how intelligent they are 😂😂
In manga, Light is self aware even called himself childish (during hospital scene when he is with Mr Yagami and L)
The thing is Light knows how naive this idea is BUT it's his arrogance that makes him believe he is above everyone else and pull this off even means is wrong, he will get the end result
yay you keep picking my favorite shows to watch! im so excited
Im obsessed with how much Oak seems to love this so far. I havent watched it in a hot minute but its one thats hits every single time you do watch it
Guys, you gonna love this show!!! I watched this a thousand times.
4:21
Light wasn't sure how Takao's name was spelled so he tried every variation.
Ref killing the guy for armed robbery. Light's killing people *accused* of crimes - he's not waiting for trials or even looking at any evidence except the public accusation.
Don't worry guys, there already is a Live Action movie of Death Note. The quality is resembling the live action of Avatar the last airbender..
Love that you guys are reacting to this, the conversations about the episodes are interesting. Death Note was the first anime I ever watched, definitely one of my faves.
Whooooaaa I didn't see this coming! This is awesome! I'm so happy to see you react to this! It's gonna be a wild ride.
Honestly L's voice actor in the dub is much better than the sub in my opinion.
@@mugiwara7347 yup unfortunately dub gave attractive voice to L instead of Light
We get the potato chip line though
@@mugiwara7347 L's english dub actor has probably the best line deliveries I've ever heard in anime
Mandela was a terrorist that murdered thousands of people while I was growing up.
Don't rewrite history.
I was just searching your channel the other day to see if yall have done this yet! So happy yall are picking this up!
Guys is fine to react to dub instead of subtitles because when you are reading subtitles you get distracted from watching.
Ooooooog baby!! You guys really don’t disappoint. I’ve been wanting the different reactors I watch to watch death note forever! So hyped for you guys!
Thank you so much for this one, you're gonna love it!!!❤
For your information, there IS a live action!
No diamond Dave ?!! After he love AOT so much ??? Weird …
I needed to free up time for some back end work and other videos we have planned for the channel. I'll be back on the anime train soon 🤙
@ awesome and while I have you a must watch is Vinland saga. It’s nice and short and incredibly well written. Life changing messages and themes
Whoa whoa whoa. You guys are starting Death Note ?! Woweee. This is my fave anime ! This is going to be one helluva ride. Let's gooo .....
Watched the full reaction: Yes
Watched the YT cut: Also yes
Watching this: HECK YESSSS 🤘🥰
@MissRichTea that's what I do too with their reaction videos, sometimes comment on full ones, but mostly watch the full reaction, then do my comment for the YT cut 🙂👍❤️💙 (sadly couldn't watch full cut for Death Note though cause couldn't find any streaming service had in UK)

I'm so happy you guys are watching my second favourite anime of all time!!!
The dub for Death Note is great, although it's a shame you'll miss out on Mamoru Miyano's voice, since he's the best voice actor ever
subjective
One thing I love about this anime, and manga, is that it doesn't waste time. The author planned on it ending on a specific number of chapters and didn't stray from it.
32:40 "This should be a live action"
how do we tell him
I really REALLY hope they watch the Netflix live action after finishing to see why most people didn't have their hopes high when One piece had it's live action announced
@@Vozird ikr one piece live action was a miracle...well you could say that all the previous failures created a path for it's success, so i hope more good adaptations occur!
There is also a Korean(?) live action movie (2 parts) that was pretty good. Sadly i cant find it some where to watch it again.
So, so excited for you to get into this show!
Then he wouldn't have taken the case on in the first place?
Think i only watched couple episodes back in 2009, but remember nothing about it other than names written down they die, such an interesting premise, I'm glad that i can now properly watch it & start my DN journey along with you guys! 🙂❤️ & very glad that you're watching it in dub too 👍 Light's moral compass is out the window & letting the power go to his head, "I am justice" what a line to end on & it's only Episode 2! 😮
Death Note was my first intro to Anime & obviously one of mines and many faves! Happy to be on this ride with yall!
Time for apples! 🍎

Still crazy to me that people still discover it (without being spoilt) today. This is really amazing, you’re in for a treat !

And this was drop in 2006 because I've watched it in 2006.
I think dubs is great for reactors cause a lot if dialogue gets throw at you fast and some can’t go back to understand. Subs are great when you are watching alone 😅idk why people get mad at dub then pressure the reactors to watch it sub and get mad if they miss something along the way 😅
As much as I love the sub, the dub fot Death Note is very goated so great choice for doing this in english dubbed!!
Oooo wot a treat! I watched this 13 years ago with my 13yr daughter she 26 tomorrow. Love this ❤ happy birthday my beautiful bubba 💞🎂💐

You guys are in for a wild ride! Can’t wait to see your reactions as the show progresses.
I also watched Death Note right after I finished AOT. It seems like soo many people did the same lol
I found this show after the whole thing had been released and I am SO GLAD. I pulled an all-nighter the day I started it because literally could NOT stop. It was like a fever dream. I even skipped days worth of university classes until had binged it all; made myself sick with the effort. Might not have been the healthiest choice but to this day I have no regrets. Some fiction just captures your whole life like that
I remember when I watched this in high school for the first time! Loved it so much! So glad you guys are watching this one!
