@@maximylesto me, I love how the albums production provides a glittery dreamlike plastic atmosphere and sound, tying all the songs into the albums lore and concept of the band washing up on this plastic island. Tyler the Creator's Igor should be a contender for album of the decade. It is a great album that sounds NOW. It would not have been made 10 years ago. It is a culmination of many of the decade's defining characteristics- the rise and dominance of hip hop and African American artistry in US mainstream culture, the use of social media and indie mixtapes to gain a fan base and bypass the usual record industry's gate keeping and/or creative compromise,, the unlikely crossover from niche to the mainstream, the fusion of hip hop, pop and other elements to create a sound identifiably Tyler's but one which is sui generis, the personal and overtly LGBTQ subject matter, an African American artist overtly referring to a LGBTQ relationship, the expression of genuine and sincere feelings (reflecting the cultural move toward post-ironic, authenticiity), and, most importantly, the music, the music, the music. Igor is the sound of tomorrow.
Agreed. Igor is a fucking masterpiece, and Easily my favorite album of the 2010s
You have taken every word I would want to say about this album out of my mouth and put it on a silver platter (don't eat it, just hear it). Also I love GONE, GONE/THANK YOU

I see plastic beach and i clicked immediately
It's the album of the decade hands down (barring double albums and compilations)
I always forget that it came out this decade tbh, killer record for sure and has my fave Gorillaz song on it (On Melancholy Hill)
@@nintendonut100 that's an easy mistake to make since it was releases early early 2010, so just barely. As a standalone album, it's just such a masterful work of genres, production, features and moods all to create what is basically the best pop album of this decade and that's really. underpraising it. Not to mentiom that the next thing they released after Plastic Beach was fucking DoYaThing. Phase 3 Gorillaz was best Gorillaz.
My other picks for AOTD were Fellas on the Moon by DG (albeit only choosing the good half of an album is questionable) and Everywhere at the End of Time by The Caretaker (which are 6 albums in one)

@@nedisahonkey yes
Jenny Death has its moments (and those are very VERY high moments) but i felt the majority of the side dragged with some tracks I've even forgotten what happened on it (Turned Off and Centuries of Damn),. it's a shame because Jenny Death thematically is amazing, but compared to the glitchy production, the abstract atmosphere, the masterful lyrics that are basically poetry, all wrapped with a 30 minute runtime of Fellas on the Moon, it pails heavily in comparison.
NOTM - 10/10

MGMT's self-titled and Little Dark Age are both second to none in my book. Never heard anything like them, no music has ever influenced how I listen to or create music so deeply. Or altered my perception on life in general. Or gave me the feeling of being so relatable it's almost creepy, like the albums were made for me. The self-titled one in particular really helped me through a dark, alienated time when I felt misunderstood and lonely. It felt like a future or alternate, musically-talented version of me was making an album for this version of me. Weird. Amazing. Inspiring. Beautiful. Perfect. 10/10, both of them.
Congratulations was also great
Congratulations is probably my fave
Both are amazing imop

Kinda surprised no-one mentioned "Awaken, My Love!"
Cuz Because of the Internet was better.

MaxxVII much better, and the main themes of the lines of real life and the internet blurring have only gotten more relevant over time.
I am never good at this whole "X of the decade" kind of stuff, because I never like boiling things down to singulars. That one album can capture everything I look for and fulfill my needs for music. Especially in music, where my mood and state of life when listening does alot to weigh my opinions, as I lean on it so heavily for support. I can give you a few highlights of the decade, be they as simplistic and not really thoughtfully selected as they may be;
*Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork*
Before this album, I couldn't really get a good grip of Queens of the Stone Age. To this day, there's something I prefer in this album to something like Songs for the Deaf. I attribute alot of that to the more calm and slower pace of the music that emphasizes the melancholic feel of alot of the album. While I certainly liked Villains quite a bit better than you did, I can agree it does not hold a candle to this album.
*Judas Priest - Firepower*
More than anything, this album impressed me. Even after just shy of half a century, even after peaking two decades ago, Rob and the gang still manage to pump out something with this much power and energy and also manage to have some of the better chops of their career on it, so far into their lifecycle.
*Dead Can Dance - Anastasis*
In my hobby of tabletop roleplaying, I have not found an album more helpful to me than this one. This album has a great talent in sparking imagination, painting landscapes in my head and due to how the lyrics of many tracks are sung in a made up language, leaves it to me to make what I will out of it.
*Ghost - Meliora*
Ghost as a band stands as an almost all-encompassing celebration of rock and metal. They have an extremely impressive range of genres and tones they capture with their music, yet never stray off from a recognizable sound, with that haunting and eerie satanic feel. Meliora captures this part of them better than any of their other releases in my opinion.
*Radiohead - Moon-Shaped Pool*
Even for Radiohead's standards, this album is deeply immersive. When playing from front to back, it is very easy to just lose yourself in the soundscape this album creates, as bleak and sorrowful as many of the images it paints can get.

An exceptional piece of afrofuturism, this album is a Ride! Piñata. Some of the greatest beats ever produced on a hip hop record as well as Freddie Gibbs in fantastic lyrical form. I have enjoyed it every time I have listened to it, and I will most likely continue to do so. I would argue that Madlib is the star on this record, but Freddie Gibbs has a delivery that most rappers would struggle to top.
This is such a hot take -that I love!
I don’t agree but I respect this take.
It's my favourite album of all time, so it's gotta be The Caretaker's Everywhere at the end of time series. It expresses the concept of memory loss in such an indescribable way that I genuinely cannot listen to it without tearing up anymore. That's a personal thing, sure, but it's also unparalleled in its execution, relative to other projects - especially ambient ones - that have a similar sonic goal eg Disintegration Loops. The way it gradually degrades feels oddly human, and that's what makes it click for me. It also has a stellar ending. Won't spoil that though for those who haven't heard it!
Random Access Memories hasn’t come up yet in this debate. I’m being to worry.

Teens of Denial by car seat headrest. The album is a beautiful mixture of rock’s progression weaved together by a deep and heavy (yet still lo-fi) production. The lyrics on the album are witty, deep, funny, and personal. the instrumentation even has sparks of horns, and contains amazing ballads that draw you in for the entirety of their track length. Every alcest album > sunbather
Random Access Memories - Daft Punk
Blackstar and Fear Inoculum are albums of the decade. Thank you
I hope you do an Artist of the decade video. That would be interesting.
LET'S ARGUE: Sunbather is one of the best metal albums ever because metal fans hated it.
Album of the decade: Time 'n' Place by Kero Kero Bonito. This album is a perfect depiction of nostalgia in an album, all the way from sarah's vocals to the slightly faded away tunes to the lyrics itself. Kkb has talked about why they chose the songs they did and what they are based on, like how Dump is based on the dump near Gus' old house growing up which is somehow an incredibly nostalgic song about a literal dump, and Visiting Hours is about his father's trip to the hospital, which is incredibly moving. Swimming is about childhood beach trips to the ocean, when everything was good. The album also has some much deeper themes about the uncertainty of the approaching future in Make Believe and Dear Future Self. Make Believe (which imo is the best song on the album) is about the dangers of slipping away into a fantasy world where everything is safe, but at a certain point it can negatively affect you way too much. Dear Future Self is about Sarah's uncertainty towards the future, since she always seemed to have so much time that she could think about her life, but as she is aging she is realizing that she will have less and less time. Time Today, as well, deals with the concept of losing time you thought you had, but on a more shorthand level with procrastination. All the other tracks on here are amazing as well but I won't go into them, and Rest Stop is one of the coolest ends to an album of all time. Like the rest of the album, it ends on a level of uncertainty on what will come next, since the song cuts out before the final word(s) of the lyric. All in all an amazing album, it's my favorite album of all time and I would pick it for my album of the decade.
You are correct
I don't think I've listened to enough albums from this year to be able to make a confident choice. But I can easily say that Plastic Beach is the best album I've heard so far that came out this decade.
I know I'm late to the party but. "A Tribe Called Quest, We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service" is an album that comes to my mind, despite me being not that much of a hip hop guy. but god damn do I love this one
Alcest's Les Voyages de l'ame is gotta be up there. So atmospheric, beautiful and emotional that it has had in tears more than once. I havent yet found a person that wasnt blown away by Autre temps, Ive changed a few peoples attitude towards metal. My mums bf even went with me to a gig more than once
Anthony, can you elaborate on why you think Russ is more talented than Frank Ocean?
Obviously Frank ocean is a recluse because he's threatened by Russ physically, musically and sexually. he knows he'll sound like an absolute simpleton in any interview compared to the galaxy brain MC.
Ned Mononymous Nah he’s just afraid that Chris Brown will go all Chris Brown on him
