Every woman I know in STEM IRL has said they don’t believe for a second AH actually works in STEM. Apparently the scuttlebutt is that she works on admin which, no shame but one would hope she could do some research.

I don’t want to get all mushy and dramatic but I’m going to for a hot second.
One of my favorite things that happened this year is that I found your channel and joined your book club. I have such a fun time watching your videos and even though we have different tastes in books, I am enjoying being a part of your book club SO much. It’s so refreshing to read things that are not what I would pick out and the community is such a good time. It’s been pretty integral in me coming out of my shell a bit and remembering how much I love to read. So thank you! And here’s to an even better 2025 😊

best part of my year was finding your channel and watching you suffer through books that i dont have mental capacity to get into and also providing top notch comedic lines. The ammount of time i quote one of your one lines during the day is truly concerning to the point that my partner keeps on looking at me like i am about to grow a second head. Either way, happy to be subscribed and to see what this year has in stock for you and us

I am 50/50 on the bangs, because I love your forehead and open rant look, but I have them to hide my deep widows peak and it makes you seem a little mysterious.
I'm loving the past years gains because I get hours of explaining while I do other things. 💕 just keep being a weirdo I'm always watching 💕

Hey, I dropped out of college 2x with no degree too! “Calcified bone balls” 💀 I gotta say I had to stop watching your review of Satan’s Affair cause I’d just watched your reviews of Haunting and Hunting Adeline and my mental health couldn’t withstand more of that horrible writing with some of the most disturbing thing’s I’ve ever heard in a rant review and trust me 2024 was the start of my rant review era. I try not to judge authors based on their work but Carlton needs to go to author prison. It’s worse than CoHo and Penelope Douglass put together. 😭 Anyway thank you for enduring these books to make us laugh. ❤ Happy New Year!!!

I always want to say more but I'm almost always multitasking 30 things while I'm listening to videos like this. But I wanted to add that I love historical literary fiction and I especially love stories that put you in the shoes of people whose lives are completely different from my own. It's the best way to learn perspective and empathy and I wish more people actively sought out differing perspectives in their reading. I really think it could change so many issues in society if we were putting more thought into mandatory reading for kids in school.
Instead of the same old "classic canon" books everyone is forced to read in highschool, we need much more individualized reading choices for kids starting in elementary school. Like mandatory age appropriate gender studies & race theory courses starting in like third grade or younger with increasingly mature content. Books written by men with male protagonists and perspectives for girls, & books written by women with female protagonists & perspectives for the boys. That kind of thing. We need to be encouraging people to seek out knowledge & understanding of other people. IDK if I'm making sense haha I'm probably not being very eloquent, as I said I am currently multitasking.
Anyway, I'm off to get my 10 month old kitten Vinny ready for his appointment with the urology specialist today 🥺 my poor boy is prone to urinary crystals and bladder stones and has been on prescription food that he hates, and I'm not crazy about it either since it's Purina and the ingredients suck... I've never fed my cats Purina before and it feels like a scam tbh when you look at the so called active ingredients in the prescription diet. So we're seeing a specialist to see how everything is going, make sure his bladder is clear, and talk about possibly changing his diet. Wish us luck! 🤞🐈‍⬛🐾❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🤎🖤🩶🤍🩷

I've never felt so loved in my life 😭 haha. Thanks again, sorry for rambling all up in your comments! Vinny and I are sending good vibes to you guys as well, for happiness & health & some great books in your future!
You've probably already read all of TJ Klune I'm assuming? But if not, you would love him I think!! Also I recently found some new horror authors I like a lot, Ronald Malfi & Jason Pargin. Oh, and there's a book that is similar to the way you described the stationary shop, a kind of dark and tragic love story that spans their entire lives. This is the only book so far to have made me actually WEEP. Others have made a few tears fall, given me the sniffles, but when I listened to The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O'Neil at work, I had to step outside because I was actually sobbing and everyone thought something was wrong with me lol.
      Happy Reading!!!

@@weirdobookclubI got to the part where you said you love pretty pink books even if they aren't good, and I agree so much! If you want to buy the best pretty pink book cover you've ever seen in your life you have to get "Zoey is too drunk for this dystopia" by Jason Pargin. I haven't read it so I have no idea if it's good or not, I think it's the third book in a series but I bought it anyways. I plan on listening to the first two in audio form and if I like them I'll buy those too. But I saw the cover when I was at Barnes & Noble Christmas shopping and there was no way I wasn't going to buy it lol.

Okay as to what is literary fiction I heard a good definition I believe from Laura Crone’s (very long but good) video on The Magicians that a better way to think of it is character-driven (literary) vs plot-driven (genre). That’s a super duper paraphrased and condensed version of the very intelligent things she said but it definitely helped me reframe how I look at books.

I can’t remember if you made a video talking abt morning glory milking farm, but if not, I wanted to add context in case you didn’t know. That book originally started as a series of tumblr posts (I wanna say around 2017?). I read it back then. It’s kinda hard to find any trace of it now so I guess you just have to believe my memory of it 💀 I wanna say it was posted on this one account who posted a lot of really interesting monsterfucking stuff called momolady (or something like that). It was either posted by that account or reposted/promoted on there… I think a year ago I tried finding the original posts and I found them but I’ve since lost those links, but you’ve reminded me so now I wanna find them again!

🙏 For you reading Where's Molly. Hopefully it will not sap your will to read in 2025. I finally made it out of my reading slump & made it over my 150 Goodreads goal for 2024 thanks to comics. Finished what's available of C.S. Pacat's Fence series & discovered The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos, which I think you would love. Lots of Frankenstein inspiration with vampires, werewolves & a very weird cult/corporation out to eradicate monsters. I'm 11 issues into the 14 currently available plus a Halloween special & I love it. I feel like that, Jemma Croft's By the Pint & Ofelia Gränd's Frostbite were my standout reads for 2024.
Oh, & The Whisper Queen comics. Issue #2 of that was a gut punch that brought me to tears & had one of the few pieces of dialog so powerful that I actually put it all in my review. Have to have read The White Trees series to get the full emotional impact, but it's a statement of grief that hits even if you don't fully know the characters' backstory. Also listened to Garrett M. Graff's The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 & it was the best audiobook I've listened to to date. I typically prefer reading, despite trying several audiobooks & I think this one showed me how much difference there is to having a voice cast versus a single narrator to bring a book to life & make the audiobook book experience better.

@@weirdobookclub I think in the wrong hands it could be a very dangerous book because of the mental health and religious/spiritual portrayal mostly. I won't say too much but I'll say that in Alejandra's FIRST appointment with the therapist, the therapist just goes "yep you're being haunted by a demon" when Alejandra could've very easily just been very mentally ill.
it was all around horrible. it was the first book of the year for me *and* my book club and I legit apologized to my friends for having them read this book 😭 it wasn't a funny bad, just bad bad. I could rant about it for ages.

Ali Hazelwood was on my worst list too. Is it just because I don't have the hots for Adam Driver? 😢 I just. He LIFTS A CAR in "The Love Hypothesis!" Also I think she called her 5ft9 character SHORT. Which, Ali babes, I am 5ft9 and outside of my family, where i am the shortest, I am considered rather tall for my assigned gender (I am non binary and tired of words 😂). Add to that that these women in STEM are thick as a brick and I just. Not as bad as last year when I got tricked into ACOTAR but.

in the future i would highly recommend looking up the proper pronunciation of authors names before you record a video. i think it's important to take the few seconds to learn how to say the names of racialized people, considering our already difficult histories with white people not bothering to give us the basic respect of learning our names.
