The Award Show format with the cuts and the giggling about how silly you're being, to take it seriously, is REALLY FUN, just genuine joy radiating from the screen. I think more video makers should do this, just have fun, make their childhood dreams come true! You CAN host an award show, in your own living room! To an audience of thousands, for real! :D
Waited all year for this video 🙂↕️ “Not necessarily a very good book” but one where you want people to react to it is part of the joys of reading imo . Going to pick up all about love I have been influenced
"The perfect Book Video doesn't exist." Leonie: Hold my sword. I agree 100% with One Dark Window & Two Twisted Crowns. Just inhaled those books in November, with no sun, just mist. Perfection. BUT after a while I noticed it's basically just the Plot of the OG Yu-Gi-Oh Anime wrapped up in a Fantasy. And I loved it all the more for it.
You have to check out “Red Code” by Keezano! 📚✨ This book dives into the dynamics between men and women, offering insights on charisma and leading a joyful life. It’s been a total game-changer for me, and I just know you’ll love it too! A must-read for sure!
i loooooove the Bloody Chamber so much. a lot of versions of Bluebeard get very moralistic about the MC's curiosity as if that's actually the problem and not like. the dead wives. i like how Angela Carter really shows that the husband withholding knowledge is a power play and the bride seeking to know more in order both to get to know him, bring them closer and make them equals. and that her main sin is being taken in by her husband's wealth (but it's also understandable and in the end the fault doesn't lie with her. the husband fetishizes her innocence which makes her naive vs. at the end her being saved by her mom who is represented as a woman of experience who has fought tigers and had her heart broken before... plus the language is so gorgeous i just love it so much
There's a book called The Gilded Nexus of Prosperity, and it talks about how using some secret techniques you can attract a lot of money, it's not some bullshit law of attraction, it's the real deal
I'm so glad that you nominated The Familiar for Best Fantasy and Best Romance Couple! That was one of the last books I read in 2024 and I devoured it with relish. Luzia and Santangel are definitely in my top tier of book ships now! Also, I noticed that you called Santangel a "shadowy entity", rather than a "shadow daddy", which made me laugh.
I have my own category for my awards called “books I read because of Leonie in 2024” because you seem to be the most influential booktuber I watch. The nominees are the monk and robot series, the shepherd king duology, and the cruel prince series. And my favorite of those was One Dark Window, with a Psalm for the Wild-Built as a runner up!! thank you for a year of amazing recs, and I can’t wait for more this year💜💜
can i just say, i know six scorched roses didn’t win in the romantasy category but that book hit the spot for me in ways i can’t describe. it’s my favourite book in its series and it’s just a novella.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow was my favorite book that I read the past year. I picked up reading as a hobby in 2024 and this one made the biggest impact^^
I've been waiting for this video! You're the only booktuber who's recommendations I trust 😂 some of my favourite books of 2024 were the Emily Wilde books, slewfoot, the Last tale of the Flower Bride, and Stories of your life and others. Definitely a big fantasy year for me!
The best videos are really yours! It’s a mix of your sense of humour, wittiness, great taste in books and cosy vibes. Thanks for a year of beautiful videos you are like a book friend ❤️📚☕️ love from Italy! My favourite book of 2024 was one dark window, super original!
Love seeing This is How You Lose the Time War getting an award. I read that book in 2023 and it was so so so good. The prose! The romance! The confusing plot! Iconic
Leonie I love the intro with the fake sword micro deciding! Just awesome exactly my kind of geeky humour! Your content helps me with mental health and confidence and inspires me to want to post more videos of my own too!
There are deeper and darker layers behind the whole astrology concept. I highly recommend exploring them in the book named Hidden Signs of the Universe by Olivia Cooper
Your yearly Book Award is a true highlight on BookTube! Thanks to your recommendation I’ve read The Sheppard King duology, and it became my favorite fantasy so far. Thank you very much!
Your best book was my most impactful read of 2024 - I also recommend it to anyone who's vaguely looking for something philosophical/self help-y because it really is the root of everything. Emily Wilde 1 and Psalm for the Wild-Built are two of my top 10 of the year too!
Leo I just have to say, i love your videos so much, they're my cosy time when I need to relax ! It also makes me want to read more in English ! Love from France
It's always so hard to chose ONE favorite book of the year 😅 I think I'll go with Plein Ciel, by Siècle Vaëlban. It's a french book, I don't know if it is (or will be) translated into english. It's about a magical opera that controls basically everything in the kingdom. There is a show every night and if it's not a success, catastrophes happen (storms, or illness spread in the town). There are beautiful relationships, plots, rebellion, ancient gods fighting and a very good worldbuilding. And it's a one shot.
Love love LOVE this type of wrapup 😂 My favourite read for this year was definitely One Dark Window... got me out of my worst reading slump ever and I will be forever grateful to Rachel Gillig for it ❤ Also I wanna know where you get your daggers/sword cause I need those in my life
it’s usually so hard for me to multitask watching book youtube while doing chores, but this video had my full attention!! it was so fun and cute and well organized. i can’t wait to read these books!! my top books of the year were -Funny Story (the book that jumpstarted me back into reading!) -Earthlings by Sayaka Murata -Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport Happy New Year!!💗
My tied faves of the year are These Violent Delights and The Stolen Heir! Amazing flawed characters and I love the writing style too. I need more books like these! (I found The Prisoner’s Throne quite disappointing though, which was unfortunate after loooooving the first book so much.) Honorable mention goes to Gallant which was really good as well. Would recommend if you like vivid Tim Burton-esque vibes. Harrow the Ninth wins the ‘best weird book’ award. I read it with my sister’s annotations which made it even better.
Totally agree with your pick for the first category, that book is great for soothing the soul! I loved the Shepherd King duology in 2024, so good 😍 I really want to read Bride and This Is How You Lose The Time War! My favorite books of 2024 were Six of Crows, the Beartown series, the Stormlight Archive, The Things We Cannot Say, and Piranesi ❤️
My favorite book i read this year was the Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez! beautifully ambitious writing and a beautiful story. Love the video and your hair looks super cute!
Yesss love your book awards haha! My top 3 of the year were Weyward, Frankenstein and The Wood at Midwinter, but I would have to say that Weyward wins but all of those reads were fantastic! I also read all 13 A Series of Unfortunate Events books which I adored, I just find it hard to compare such a long series with standalone XD
Loved this video. A few of these are already on my TBR. I skipped any details about The Bloody Chamber and will read it soon! I try to go into short stories quite blind
My favorite books were the last two books of the Winternight series by Katherine Arden. Highly recommened it! I think this would be totally a series you would love too.
I loved the first two books of this series so so much, but I was so disappointed by the last book for various reasons! However, I would still recommend reading at least the first two books bcs they are stunning!
nice sparkly sweater, it's like a cosmos wrapped around you. all about love is something that might feel novel to outsiders what has been taught in asian households since adolescence, familiar love & communal bonds.
I had a bout of food poisoning from eating too-old pasta sauce in like Spring 2024, and I stayed up for hours while being sick, reading Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. It was a PERFECT binge-read, took me like 6 hours. It's at it's best if you only know the very top-level summary of like two sentences - "There is a House, with infinite rooms, where only one man lives. He has made it his life's work to document all the rooms he visits as he wanders the halls. Occasionally, a second man visits the House. Happy reading, leonie! I just started watching your videos this year and your book reccomendations have been so helpful and opened up so many new favorites of mine. Loved the awards as every year! 💫 My favorite book of 2024 was wordslut. Thanks to your recommendation I can now annoy all my friends by not shutting up about it
Well now I have a few more books to add to my TBR XD My favorite of 2024 was "Middlegame" by Seanan McGuire. Not only was I amazed that someone even thought of this idea, and that it continued to surprise me until the very end, but it re-ignited my love for an author I knew I liked but somehow kept forgetting about.
Listening to you talk about Perfume and the kind of villainous main character reminds me a lot of The Collector by John Fowles. If you haven’t already read it, give it a try for your classics list this year!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO it was actually amazing ❤!!! also if u liked one dark window i would recommend one for the wolf and for weird books i would recommend bunny (also by mona awad)
You definitely convinced me to add all about love to my tbr My favorite book of last year was Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel and I actually think you'd really enjoy it as well!!
whipping out a full sword not even a 1 minute in is a+
The Award for best BOOKTUBE of 2024 goes to... The Book Leo
+1
Fr
I second that❤
I think you meant best of the century, if not millennium, not just the year.
100% agree!

I'll buy you dinner for this recommendation

I soooo agree for The Shepherd King duology! Thanks for making me discover and read this in 2024.
I also read it thanks to Leonie and LOVED IT
What a clever format!! This was so fun to watch! :)

My fav books of the year "As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow" and "Pride and Prejudice". Happy new year!
I read the locked tomb series twice this year and it’s a lifetime fave!! Would recommend to all!
I read it for the first time this year and read all three twice as well 😂
My favorite part of this video: "thank you other leonie" (followed by your little giggle) 😍
