This could be my next tent for bikepacking, lots of room for the weight, and good value. The only thing I would replace is those horrible pegs that dig in to your hands when you press them down. Wild country and Robens pegs are similar with the top bent 90 degrees so are a lot more comfortable to use.
I’ve been trying to find my first tent and keep going back to this. Finally I’ve found a decent review which answers a lot of my questions. Brilliant review. I think this is what I’m after for chucking in my bike for cycle trips or in my kayak. Nice!
Thank you for reviewing this tent Chris, I have been looking at this model for a few weeks now, glad I found your channel. Just purchased the tent this evening from Valley and Peak.
I liked this review so much, I bought one, & I'm not disappointed either. It's a belter. I also went & bought the Sierra Designs Flex Capacitor 40-60 litre ruck sack. Another amazing design for not much money.
Hi, great detailed review! I notice you staked down the corners of the fly with separate stakes, instead of just looping the lines under the poles as the instructions say to. is there a reason for that?
Excellent review.. Very well presented and easy to follow... I had narrowed my next tent to the Helm2, but this Seirra has to be added to my list.. Thanks for posting...
@@MCMOutdoors I watched your other video where the storm came in through the night... Thanks for that.. All helpful....I have only just discovered your channel... I have subscribed and will check out some more...
Having previously owned an ultra voyager and finding that my quasar is more of a full winter tent, I was looking at a hubba Nx but I saw this and then an online review put this above it too, so..... your video sealed the deal. Bought it today and am looking forward to getting it out into the wilderness. Thanks for taking the time to do this video
@@pierrotgodot Hi there. Bought it and enjoyed for a few trips - sizeable and light and brilliant when you peel the fly back to see the stars at night . But… not great in the wind.
As you have to put up the inner tent first, my concern is when it is raining this will get too wet? Other tents I am looking at you put up the outer tent first. I am looking for a tent for wild camping for 2 people to take my daughter on short camping trips. Any advice please.
Good review that. Is the HH enough you think for the UK weather? I want to do the beacons, lake district, Dartmoor ext. Been looking at this and the msr 2 man elixir. I'm all confused now, look at the vango halo pro and robens lodge 2.w y advice my fellow hiker.? Best wishes
Yes and yes, it did the job for me mate, the Robens is decent also! Have a good shop around and check out the various useful forums on Facebook (including ours :-)
It's pretty much the same materials as the elixir, the groundsheet may be a slightly lower HH. The poles are better quality on the Meteor and I think a stronger design as it uses two long poles that cross over each other
Thanks for your excellent review. Very informative and focused on all the main features and advantages of the tent. It helped me a lot to find my next tent.👍
A cracking review, thank you. It's also one of the first/ few tents made from all recycled material too, which I like. There's no substitute for just trying something out though is there, but your reviews really help to give a great idea of a product, thank you.
Great review, full assembly and comment videos like this help shift product off shelves & avoid people buying an in appropriate product for themselves & then giving it misguided reviews⛺️🤠👏👏👏. I've got a small, lightweight Aussie tent with a small, square, 'roof -vent -fly' that lifts off for 'stargaze' but it's nowhere near the same quality. Nice one mate 😎👍
Brilliant review Chris. The tent looks fantastic and has made its way to the top of my wishlist after watching this video. Keep em coming mate, all the best, Liam 👍🏻🍻
Super video, very informative and easy to follow. Well done! I purchased the SD Meteor thanks to this great review. I will use it on a backpacking trip in a few days. I have been practicing putting it up. Very straightforward and easy. I am just not too sure how to fold the poles back properly. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you very much 🙂
Cheers - great choice. Just make sure you pull the poles gently out of the circular hub, then fold them all and they will go back in the pack just fine - ATB, Chris
Great review. The weight is around the same as a Banshee 200 but for anyone looking for more space and headroom than the Vango, this is surely a great alternative.
Alright mate, Mountain Hardwear, North Face and Terra Nova all make mountain tents - which are designed to withstand storm force winds. As do some Nordisk tents. ATB
Another good honest review from you Chris. It’s a different design and I do like it, the “sunroof” is an awesome feature. The only downside for me is the pitch inner first. Thanks mate 👍
Hello, thank you for both of your videos on this tent. I started researching this one because of my dear friend recommendation, but its being a two years since this review have you maybe found something different that you would also recommend within the budget around 300 EUR and would poses similar weather resistance characteristics?
Any suggestions on a 3-4 season tent around same budget and same space and weight? I love the look of the Meteor but like you say it's a warm weather tent.. thanks
Hi Paul, good question - for the depths of winter, you could still use this - you would just need to pitch it in a less exposed spot and wear more layers / bring a warmer quilt or sleeping bag. As you know, up the season rating and up the price on tents - stronger fabrics, thicker poles all cost more money. Some of the MSR tents are higher rated, but they're not cheap - it's the old trade off mate, 4 season tents are heavy and have to be heavy. When they design a lightweight 4 season tent - let me know, because I'll be buying it! That said, the Hilleberg Soulo is 4 season and "light" in all but the price. Sorry to be unable to properly answer.
Does the wind get under the outer skin? Some people say these American tents the out skin doesnt go all the way to the ground so it can get breezy. Have you found that?
The wife, the dog and I use the Meteor 3 during spring, summer, fall and in milder winter conditions. The wife won't let me use the Meteor 3 without her, so the dog and I use a Staika, my favorite tent, when she stays home.
Good review and the star gazing is a nice touch. So if you're sending it back, the Valley and Peak have it for sale as a second hand item? :-) I still love my Flytop tent, given the specs on it and the price. Going to have a think about this meteor one, as I'm also thinking of a bivvy as want to do more stealth. Problem with this wildcamping mallarkey, I just want to buy so many things! Torches, knives, axes, what season 4 sleeping bag to choose, what mat..it's endless innit! Look forward to more videos soon, cheers.
Mate, it's a weird addiction isn't it! I'm the same although can't justify any outdoor gear expenditure at the moment - so even better when people send things to try out! ATB mate
@@MCMOutdoors it sure is. On any given day, if I had the money, I could easily buy a shed load of gear. It's because there is so much great stuff out there. Although I may have a great little stove, I see another one with a great review and think, I NEED that, when the likelihood is, I don't! However, I do need a bivvy and possibly a new tarp as I want to do some Stealth camping, so they're next on the list. Down another wormhole I go! all the best, look forward to another video soon. Keep driftin'...
Thank you - do they not sell this colour in the US ? I thought the Meteor 'lite' was the crazy coloured version ? This is a different model - with less mesh and a fly that extends closer to the floor ?
@@MCMOutdoors No, they sell that color only in your market because of your stringent regulations for color. The crazy colors are what they have used for years in ours. I believe its impacted their sales and a reason they have cheaply branded Chinese products that were clearly not produced at all by them.
