Brian Cooley is the Cooliest guy ever... Keep on mind that he checks just the Tech and obviously the bad things that many people might miss at the time to buy new cars... and about this Toyota hybrid.. Its true that these days Hybrid cars should be making at least 50mpg to make it interesting... my civic can do in average 32mpg daily drive with 11 gal tank and its not a hybrid!
With no lower trims of the Highlander Hybrid and nonexistent availability, these hybrids are super rare. It leads me to think that Toyota doesn't want to build or sell many. I still think it's cool tech, and the 8 passenger version get a 2nd row bench.
The 27/28 mpg figure sells this thing waaaaaay short if driven by someone who understands how to drive a hybrid efficiently. I own an 08' HiHy, and regularly see 32-33mpg highway, and high 20's to almost 40(depending on the route) in the city. They can get wonderful mileage, IF you know how to drive to take advantage of the battery/coasting in EV. And when you need it, almost 300hp and AWD. Wonderful compromise.
Brian Cooley, the cup holder in the center can be replaced by a small seat. The small seat is supposed to be stowed away in that large hole under the center console. If it is not there then that must be Toyota's fault.
Brian if you want the cable for the cell phone don't interfere you, while you are pushing those buttons just pull it upwards through the whole instead of pushing it aside. Management or not, if you don't use it the way it can function properly, you don't have the right to complain about it.
No. The NX uses the hybrid powertrain from the ES 300h which is based off the Camry hybrid, I believe. This hybrid system used on the Highlander is based off the RX 450h's, if I'm not mistaken.
There is a difference between this and the Lexus RX450h. Same powertrain but the Lexus has a higher compression ratio for some odd reason and you have to use premium fuel while the Highlander uses regular gas
If the Navigation and Phone functions are not Apps, what are they then? Both of them are of course Apps, simply application on the cars computer system!!!
I'm wondering why Toyota went with bing vs. google. With Google you can integrate phone apps, even if it's an Apple, and is just awesome... Bing? Really toyota. What's changing with that company?!

I look at it and i see the design language and try to relate to what the designer was going after. There's some interesting lines going on in both vehicles.
What this car uses cvt transmission? Sucks? Im not interested into those car that uses cvt. Just by a bicycle. CVT was a big failure in a car transmission.
Massive difference between CVT and an ECVT which Toyotas use. Mistake by reviewer. Unlike traditional CVT which uses a steel belt, the ECVT uses simple pinion gears. Virtually bulletproof tech. About one third the parts of a traditional transmission. If you want to see how it works check out Weber Auto youtube video on it. Actually very simple tech.
27/28 MPG. Come on. Toyota. $47000 Hybird. I will wait for the mitsubishi outlander plug in if I really want a green car. Tesla Model X will shock to the SUV market on next year just like the Model S.
Problem with the Tesla is it will cost a hell of a lot more...I can say how much for sure but going from their current rates I wouldnt be shocked if the Model S is over 80 grand

I like the facelift, very nice. Unfortunately its a Toyota which makes it a soccer mom car, and a silly one at that. Silly interior ergonomics, silly mpg's, and like all toyota's probably feels detached from the road in a very dull, un-exciting way. On the bright side because it is so boring, it'll put your kids right to sleep! No more noisey car trips.

There is an 8-seat available if you pick the Highlander model with second row bench seat, that's 2-3-3 configuration.

About 6 years later and the new 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid gets 34 mpg combined. What a difference!

According to the spy shots, I'd rather have the upcoming 2016 Honda Pilot. It's also probably going to get 28 MPG Highway with 290HP.
