Now, how much power do you lose in? Is it extremely hard to tune on that?

I've seen videos from modelism 'experts' who say that glow engines that run without nitro last less because they heat up more, and therefore, parts like the liner and piston assembly wear out faster. But around here there are a group of model airplane designers with glow engines that run on ethanol plus castor oil without nitro (this is homemade fuel, but there are also gallons of bioethanol fuel on sale), and the engines work well. They heat up more and lose a little power, but just by using a common and cheap fuel - sold at all gas stations, and which is not poisonous - it should be worth it.

I haven't had that issue of engines wearing up prematurely probably because the amount of oil I use and the type of oil I use but that being said there is a lot of people especially that do pile on racing with Nelson engines that run only 0% at 30000 continuous RPM you can even buy 0% or FAI fuel at hobby shops. I have tried ethanol but E100 and it didn't really work very well had even less power then methanol 100 and was almost impossible to get it tuned in rc car engines. Now that being said OS designed an ethanol glow engine that works well and a GG or GAS glow engine as well

@@thebug4046 Here in Brazil there are 3 glow plug options to convert aero engines to ethanol: BE plug (which is manufactured with an inverted thread, so to use it in a normal engine you have to make a bushing or make a new thread in the head), G5 plug and A8 medium plug (which I consider the best option). The other way is to install spark plug and CDI. The compression ratio of ethanol's combustion is lower than that of methanol, like a 6:1 ratio, so you have to put more washers on the cylinder head to get as close to the right compression as possible. Adjusting the carburetor for ethanol is quite tedious to get to the right point, but it is possible to reach an ideal point. And regarding the type of fuel, there are people who use 92.8º INPM alcohol and there are people who use ethanol sold at gas stations (which is not 100% anhydrous). Some say that you can add a percentage of pure acetone to the mixture to replace the nitromethane, but I personally think it's very risky for the engine.
I myself have an ASP .12 with an N3 glow plug that I wanted to convert to bioethanol because I'm not even going to pay a fortune for a few liters of nitro glow fuel, in addition to the possibility of being poisoned by this crap methanol.

@@netorodrigs2100 ah gotcha! Yeah it's pretty different depending where you live I guess and I have tried adding acetone to my 0% and honestly did not see any difference other than destroying my fuel system. Maybe it works better with ethanol. I Maybe should visit that again and see what I can come up with

@@thebug4046 OK! For model car engines, this idea of converting to ethanol may not work so well. But if you happen to get an aero engine, give it a try! If it doesn't work, at least it will help you spend some free time (lol)! To this day I haven't seen anyone trying to convert a .12 engine (the smallest one I found on YT was a .15 engine), and God willing, one day I'll make that attempt, but in the meantime it's stored at home. Thank you for your attention! Stay safe!

It's easy you can go 4 fluid ounces to one quart methanol and that will be 12% oil for easy mixing

I think i got this. A quarter of fuel is roughly 1000ml so for 10% oil content you need to add 113ml of oil first then top up with the 887ml of 0% methanol.

@@thebug4046 Unless you're in the freedom states where 2 3s packs only runs ya about $60, and a decent charger is about $35. Then you get to reuse the batteries, but oddly enough, a lot of people don't seem to like the smell of burning Lipos as much as they like the smell of burning nitro. Can't imagine why...
