For solid colors, the overall depth of single stage is hard to beat. An old school trick to help with gloss and maximize uv protection is to mix your final coat 50/50 with a compatible clear coat. Mix each separately first, then combine them.

LoL When I was 15 I decided to paint my 1st "build" because my stepdad (compulsive lier) said hed painted dozens of cars. Before I got halfway through the 1st coat the jug blew off & that blue paint (between Petty & Laguna ) went everywhere. I know my step dad was full of shit when my uncle asked what did you have the regulator set on. The look my stepdad had said WTF is a regulator, i was so 😠. I looked like a damn smurf for the better part of 2 days. I did work at a body shop later on but I was better at dolly work. I can say you laid that paint down pretty good.

Yeah, both have their applications. "Single stage" is for trucks, tractors and structural/inner panels on cars. Because you "get what you get" if you have runs, bugs, dirt in your paint (which you did) you can't fix it. You have to scuff and redo the panel.
For a perfect paint job, BC/CC is a thousand times more user friendly. I wouldn't recommend it, but I've had guys do a BC/CC paint job outside.
If you get a defect in the color....you can fix/blend it till it's perfect. Same with the clear coat (unless it's severe) As a painter, you also have more control over the match.
For an over-all, there's no reason you couldn't use the cheap paint and expensive clearcoat. All the hardness, gloss retention and UV protection comes from the clearcoat.

Hey bud for less orange peel in basecoat simply use a little more reducer and sometimes it can help it lay out flatter , for clear coat simply apply it wet and it should flow out on its own .

  • @Z-Ack
