Torque is very well mapped, so it doesn't feel as slow as you might think. It's an honest car that has never needed anything over and above the stated VW service schedule, save for tyres and brake pads etc. If it were a person, it would be Keith from the Accounts Dept. But I like Keith. It's a bit of a trooper.

  • @BitterCynical

I like my A2 because I'm weird. Boring, dumb, *normal* people won't like it.
With my heavy foot and city traffic it's more like 5.5 to 6L/100km, something like 45 to 50mpg.
Even if the fuel savings were as good as they look on paper, after 20 years it just always needs repairs that add up.
While the body won't rust, some steel suspension parts do rust and can be a huge pain to replace.
Electrical problems are common, I don't have interior lights and sometimes the boot lid won't open.
Likely every A2 has a broken glove box light switch - the bulb remains lit as long as parking lights are on, it gets hot and burns a hole in the passenger air bag and eventually burns out. You can replace the bulb but it will soon fail again without fixing the lid switch.
Until like 2002 the diesels had an additional Webasto heater. Expensive to repair so it's rare to have one in working condition. I did the repairs myself since the shop wanted as much as installing a new one costs.
Some times the air conditioning might actually be fine but the air flap servo motor for controlling temperature could be dead, same with all the other air flap servo motors for directing air to different vents. Those servo motors specifically or A2 are stupid expensive, almost identical ones for A3 costs 10x less, just requires swapping around the internals of them. Similar creative smart money repairs for other things like the light switch which electrically is identical to one used in a golf.
Basically to *significantly* reduce repair costs of an A2, gotta source the parts and often do the repairs yourself.

Old CT was much better though. Look at the views, the old group was averaging like 300k-400k on every single video, since these took over the highest they got is 151k and average is probably less than 50k. I think they just tried to take the easy way to become TH-camrs by buying a channel but they lack the humour of the old group, and people completely lost interest because they’re quite boring in my opinion.

@@Matty27 They haven't bought a TH-cam channel, they're previous CT employees that have moved up to being on camera. You have to give it time, the old boys and the OG Top Gear trio weren't as funny in the early days- it has to develop. Yes the videos may not be as funny or humorous, but its still quality content. People need to move on from the old days (because like I said, all of them still make videos) so the new CT is just a bonus.

40 is relatively low over here, there’s a lot of little 1.0 city cars looking towards 60-70mpg. Though you have to remember they are also different between UK and US, 40 UK mpg is 33.3 US mpg
