Imagine my surprise when I realize this was posted 36 minutes ago! It’s remarkable how little his content has changed and how it could still definitely hold up in the modern climate! I believe he picked just the right time to return, but really, his content is timeless.
Sounds like if you take a picture, for example, you are relying less on your memory for that particular moment. Now knowing you have a picture of it, your brain doesn't need to remember the painting because you can just look at the picture at any time.
0:50 And that's what I do. I take less (almost no) pictures and rather than that, I enjoy that precious moment which I can remember throughout my entire life ❤
My theory is because if you write it on a note or even taken a photo of it, you are likely to stop worrying about them which makes you get them off your mind considering the fact that your mind now thinks that it doesnt need to remember such memory if you can just simply remember it again via the action you use like taking a photo of it. Some studies are theorized like this and I stand with them on this theory.
Might be true I saved the video to remember this comment and after I saved it, I only remember the part where "mind thinks it doesn't need to remember" and completely lost the rest.
@@FoeReaper yes i did actually!! First of all his videos are short so it wasn't a big deal, second of all it took me months (? I believe if not then it took me less) to complete watching all of his videos
This makes sense actually. When you take a photograph, your brain subconsciously doesn't place as much reliance and importance on the actual experience, since a photograph is (basically) a permanent "memory".
Photographs made my life better, I can see old photos and remember anecdotes, places and happiness I couldn´t witouth them. Take photographs if you want to inmortalize beatiful moments. You will appreciate it when you are old.
This makes so much sense I realise i think this also applies to lot of things everyday. whenever youre scrolling some app and theres a diy/hack or some other inspo or a random video ab some imp sites you need, you usually just save it instead of viewing it and memorizing it cause you have it saved so the brain doesn't give much importance to it subconsciously. Except now its just out of your mind and you did your job. Similarly, when you're writing down notes, you probably give like just partial of your attention/ importance to it because you have it stored anyway.
it's interesting to think about how this phenomenon works. it could be that, if you restrict yourself from using your camera, you unconsciously engage yourself more with the experience. very interesting in any case!
I think it's because, once we mentally acknowledge that we've recorded the situation through a photo or video, our mind disengages from the situation slightly, since we now believe the photo or video to be our "backup plan" in a way. It's alright if we don't put everything into our experience, since we can just look at what we capture of it later on
Its really simple. When the tasks are less, it helps you direct more focus towards the object at hand so you can memorize it better. It has to do with full attention vs partial attention. Attention helps memory big time.
What a Surprising Surprise! literally I was shocked for a moment that I got notification from this channnel. So.. well I hope you will further continue to upload videos for us 🔥🔥
Goodness, the return of the CENTURY. I'm utterly shocked that we get to have this quality content once more. I sent an email relatively recently about it and to think that the odds ended up being in my favour with a return. Thank you!!
We all love the stuff you make man, at least I can say I do. These videos have helped me a lot and they’re only a minute long! It’s crazy and I’m so glad you’re back
If I had to take a non scientific guess my assumption would be that you take less time soaking in the information because taking a picture tells yourself that no matter what you'll have an external source that will effectively remember the event for you. If somebody tells me "I'm going to write fifty digits on this piece of paper and in twenty minutes i'm going to take the piece of paper away and if you can't recite the numbers to me exactly i'm going to hurt you", I'm going to do everything in my power to remember those digits, versus the same scenario except at the end he says "you can also take a picture with your phone." Weird example? Yes, but that's just my weird theory lol
There's a time to put away cell phones. I went to a concert. After the singer said his goodbyes he came back on stage. I filmed it with my cell phone. His whole encore, I watched through my cell phone. Afterward, I realized I missed the entire encore and felt like I watched it on television even though I was close to the stage at the actual event.
I can't see how there's that much similarity between that short-term memory experiment on details of painting, vs long term memories of spending time with people / events etc. They're very different things. Of course you shouldn't just spend the whole night taking photos. There's a balance. But I definitely remember more about events where I took some photos compared to events where I took zero (or just 1 or 2). It aligns with stuff like the concept "memory palaces" etc. Also memories stick better the more you recall them again and again, i.e. looking at the photos in the future. And personal memories aren't about small details like staring at a painting that has little relevance to you personally/socially (compared to an actual social event with people), and then recalling them for some trivia quiz shortly afterwards. I get that people are against the whole "living your life through the camera lens/phone" thing, but it's just as silly to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and leap to the other extreme of discouraging personal photography entirely. There's a good reason photos were always the thing that people said they'd grab in a fire. They're important, and practical in retaining & recalls long term memories. Like everything... it's just balance.
What's really interesting is in this video, he looks just the same as he looked on his other videos 6 years ago. Could it be he already had these new videos made and ready way back then till he was ready to publish them at the right time? If so then that's incredible! I mean 6 years..Wow Glad to see you back though. Love your videos!
This is the same as taking notes in class, don’t focus on copying what’s on the whiteboard first, try to understand what the teacher is saying and then write down your own understanding.
6 years my gosh , wow !! same music , same style, same amazing voice, I'm so much happy to see to you and also glad that you're doing well may you live longer
In a comeback 6 years later, same music, same camera quality, same style, same lovely voice. It's a trip down memory lane. 👍🏻🔮

And at the right time too, I have my exams next week and I rlly could use some of this 😩

That's what I thought :D
And it’s true. You can always look back at the image how many years later, but you will most likely forget what you saw at the museum.

This makes sense actually. When you take a photograph, your brain subconsciously doesn't place as much reliance and importance on the actual experience, since a photograph is (basically) a permanent "memory".
but with old age you are more likely to forget right, so having that photograph can be a good way to hold onto important memories
This could be attributed to the Google effect, where people tend to not remember information which they know is available to them at a short notice.

Reason is that when you take photo, you know unconciously or conciously that you dont need to remember as it is stored as photograph
