    I recently discovered Amla powder and avocado seed powder ( I grate myself with the seeds from the avocados I am eating daily ). Both my bp and T2D numbers have improved. I have also discovered fennel seeds and cloves. I am also eating these. I do not want to resort to pharmaceutical meds, so I use 2 or 3 natural supplements daily.

    Also wanted to ask about garlic. Have you noticed if there is a difference if we consume raw garlic vs garlic powder in terms of lowering blood pressure and allicin content? What about cooked garlic. Do you think garlic powder is sufficient?

    • @HealthyFamilyDoc
      @HealthyFamilyDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So, both garlic and garlic powder have allicin! The raw garlic cloves (or rather garlic cloves, even if you cook them) have slightly more but the garlic powder is shelf stable. Whatever is easiest for you to eat, though I would try to get at least a few fresh cloves of garlic in foods like chili, soups, spaghetti sauces etc.

    Hi. I ran across your video. What are your thoughts on magnesium taurate and l-threonate. I'm also trying to combat anxiety so which magnesium would you recommend

    • @HealthyFamilyDoc
      @HealthyFamilyDoc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Magnesium can be very calming to the nervous system, people often use it to help with sleep, mood/anxiety, and even things like restless leg.

      @HealthyFamilyDoc yes. I understand but which would you recommend for anxiety & one to maintain a healthy BP?

    Can you recommend brands for magnesium supplements that you think are excellent quality and safe? Thank you.

    • @HealthyFamilyDoc
      @HealthyFamilyDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best are the ones you can find easily, remember to take, and are easy for you to add in to your routine. So if that’s an evening drink than Natural Calm is a great powder to add, if it’s a bath you can use Epsom Salts, or a spray on your feet before bed could be from a magnesium salt spray. A supplement should be easy to take in 1 tablet (check the mg dosing) like you can find over the counter!

      @@HealthyFamilyDoc Thank you! When I look for magnesium supplements I see that there are ten types of magnesium. What type of magnesium should I take for help with blood pressure?

    • @HealthyFamilyDoc
      @HealthyFamilyDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ellenm4839 oh I see what you mean! In supplement form, the most soluble (meaning the easiest digest and absorb) are magnesium citrate and glycinate. I’d pick those over magnesium oxide or sulfate.
      If it’s in a spray, or salt (like Epsom salts with magnesium sulfate) that is absorbed through the skin it’s less important the type.

    Dr.can we take garlic pills? How much?

    • @HealthyFamilyDoc
      @HealthyFamilyDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can supplement with garlic! In a powder, oil, or capsule. Try to find one with standard extract of allicin (the active component). The dose range in studies is wide 300-1500mg/day; start low and talk to your doctor if you take medications for HIV/AIDS or other “retrovirals” as garlic can make them less effective.
      It’s always best to eat it though, especially as part of the DASH or Mediterranean diets. Good luck!

    magnesium is a bit confusing for me because there so many forms of magnesium which one is the best? Does the type matter? Do pumpkin seeds have the desirable type of magnesium how about chocolate and leafy greens do they have the right type of magnesium? I want to buy supplements for magnesium but they only come in one form of magnesium...someone educate me

    • @HealthyFamilyDoc
      @HealthyFamilyDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right! Magnesium is confusing, I will post another video to clarify. But look for magnesium citrate, carbonate, or glycinate. Dark leafy greens especially spinach, pumpkin seeds, and dark chocolate all have magnesium. Because of farming practices in America most of our food has less magnesium than it used to, so a supplement is still a good idea. Look for any of the above in any form you prefer. If you want a powder to add to drinks or smoothies I like "Natural Calm" you can get it flavored or plain.
