maaan this takes me way back. I haven't played this since the N64 days and this was one of my favorite games. I need to hook up my 64 again to play this haha.
I remember when Killer Instinct came out in the arcade in my late teens. We were so burned out on playing the Mortal Kombat games. This was something new and a little different. Loved it
This game was so hard for me but I have the level with the skeletons engraved in my brain back when I wasn't allowed to play these and my dad would sneak it around my mom and bless me😂😂
@WikiPeoples The game has a great Step-byStep tutorial for every character. But basically, for every character the combo's go like this... 1. Any Heavy special move 2. Medium attack - links to... 3. Any Medium special move 4. Light attack - links to... 5. Any Heavy special move. (to finish) You simply link any special moves together, in whatever order you like, with "Auto Doubles".
I'm counting on it! Wouldn't mind for an HD release, that way I would not have to rely on roms and use a keyboard. Not to mention how hard it was to make them work on a mac. I played KI2 on a cabinet 1 year after playing KI Gold and noticed the differences. Still I was blown away by the 3d quality, sound and gameplay when I played it for the first time on my N64.
Yup, Killer Instinct has never been a "house hold" name. But even my mom has heard of Mortal Kombat. There have been talks about bringing Killer Instinct to XBLA, since Microsoft do still own RARE, I'm just not sure what version it will be, hopefully a collection!
I'm sure the reason they didn't release KI or KI2 is because Killer Instinct Gold was meant to be a superior KI2 console remix. But it didn't sell very well at all unfortunately. There's still a lot of love for KI out there though. Let's at least hope for an XBLA (RARE) release.
@DubbahBlanks It's a really overlooked gem, still feels good to play if you remember the combo format. Hopefully the Killer Instinct franchise isn't completely over.
I remember playing this game when I was about 6 or so, I did an ultra combo with Orchid on Kim... So nasty! Orchid's thongs also corrupted me a little at that age but whatever. Game is awesome
If you ask people about Mortal Kombat, they know, even if not serious players. If you do that in the case of KI. they do not know. It is sad, because for me, this game is many times better than any MK. Instead of MK for xbox360, there should be KI.
The 16bit version is further from the Arcade version than KI Gold is in my opinion. But I did spend a shit load on renting the black 16bit cartridge for the snes KI.
They should probably have re-released both KI and KI2 for the N64 after 1996's KI GOLD. Both games would have been improved even if it was impractical to include the FMV graphics. Another compensation for cartridge limitations could have been the use of the expansion pack (like in DK64). I just wonder what if KI was indeed available on Nintendo ultra 64... It wasn't till the early 2000s when anime fighting games were re-released with modifications like King of Fighters and Guilty Gear.
@MHMemeDoubleYourFun SFII is an absolute classic (I had the sticker book collection, Gi Joe SFII toys and bunked off school to play it at the arcades when I was 8yrs), I think part of it's charm is that the combo system was in fact, like you mentioned a mistake. I prefer Killer Instinct's combo system, not because I think it's better than Street Fighters, but it's the combo system I understand the most.
Don't be, its a free to play game that only comes with one character and you have to pay for the others. Free to play with a Gold Subscription by the way.
@MikamiPro Well, I do know that when Glacius does his Liquidize and Uppercut, you would counter it the Ninja Slide. The way I like to do that is a Fake Endokuken until Glacius does his move, then I counter it hope that he doesn't break my combo as I usually play on Hard to give the game more of a challenge. I got really good with the blocking off.
@NerevarMoonStar It was just on easy (one below normal and above very easy) :/. Can't really play fighting games well, but put a rifle in my hand in an FPS and I might might be able to take an eye out. Very true to know your enemy and yourself in KIGold.I have the most trouble with Glacius, 'cause he's "high" and "heavy".So I meet him with "low", "light" and "Quick", before I get my ass handed to me :P It's like Rock Paper Scissors :)
What difficulty was this on? Because I've played on normal as Jago and continuously lose to Jago even at the earliest he's been! I guess I just haven't figured out the game's "thinking" as Jago. It's the same way with me and Jago in the first one. I play so well with him, but he has a tendency to beat me in that one as well. Sometimes unnecessarily using his sword to finish me off... Know your enemies, but know yourself as well, I suppose?
What was used to record this? Im trying to record one on hauppauge 1212 but it keeps freezing on me. Idk if i need a more compatible laptop or a new hauppauge
Xander Crease You can record old consoles in high quality certainly - there are capture devices and upscalers available specifically aimed at retro consoles :)
HaggisNoodles recently been looking at buying some to start my own retro vids, important to get one that's aimed specifically at this kind of use though - a lot of the upscalers are aimed more at movies so they have a lot of lag etc
Yeah, now. This video is almost 8 years old. The highest quality recording equipment available at that time was an HD PVR, and costed anywhere between 250-300 dollars. And that still wouldn't have accepted the N64 because it requires up to a 480i signal, versus this game's 240p signal.
theyyy havent brought this game back or re-made on next gen consoles beeecccaaauuuussseee???? ohh I know developers don't like money and wanna keep putting out the same games over and over
I'm disappointed mostly because I don't wanna buy a shitty xbox to play a solid game. Exclusives make me sad :( and chris seavor doesn't work for Rareware anymore I don't think, so fuck em.
This brings back so many childhood memories ;_;
Soooo many childhood memories, I remember I would mash the buttons so fast that I would get blisters on my hands.
man this game was sick in its time.
maaan this takes me way back. I haven't played this since the N64 days and this was one of my favorite games. I need to hook up my 64 again to play this haha.

the combos began with MK2, but this Killer Instinct is the king of combos
Absolutely! The popular meme "combo breaker" came from Killer Instinct.
I remember this when i was a kid. I wish i could play this again.
@WikiPeoples The game has a great Step-byStep tutorial for every character. But basically, for every character the combo's go like this...

i played this game since i was 6year old and i still dont know how the fk hes doing those crazy combo's....? WTFF
It has a fantastic tutorial / training system. I spent more time training than actually playing the tournament.
N64 version was far better and closer to the Arcade version graphically than the snes.
There is no Killer Instinct 2 on the snes
Jago had his weetbix. That's for damn sure
And it still holds up even to this day! Great game to go back to :)
I loved this game, one of the first I played.
Of course I've seen the new Killer Instinct footage, But KI fans who have been playing the game for 19 years might be a little disappointed.
A "Killer Cuts" CD was released with the SNES version of Killer Instinct with remixes of the character stages.
Indeed, I still have my copy of that CD :)
I used to rent Killer instinct, and mario kart. on and lokal gas station.
Both are good classic games after my oppinnion :-)
This game is still kick ass
The funny thing is that I didn't care much for it when I was younger, it was a little too technical. But now I absolutely love it.
god i loved this game when i was a kid
This game, is the next game in my collection! DAMN!
I scream out of joy if this game comes out on the wii virtual console
@malaista Correction! Jago was created in the original Killer Instinct back in October of 1994. Wana know when Ryu was created? August of 1987...
Yup, Killer Instinct has never been a "house hold" name. But even my mom has heard of Mortal Kombat. There have been talks about bringing Killer Instinct to XBLA, since Microsoft do still own RARE, I'm just not sure what version it will be, hopefully a collection!

Cannot wait to play this on XBOX ONE in the Rare replay collection.
Same here, conkers bad fur day and perfect dark as well.
Game4Fame Channel I've always wanted to try those.
MythicMage Me too. It's gonna be hard to get back to fighting form using an XBox controller though.
Xander Crease I have been playing KI3 and MKX for the XBOX ONE.
MythicMage Both very similar games, I prefer MKX though, still playing KI3 too.
C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKERRRRR!
nice old shit, i have still mortal kombat 4,subzero, clayfighter, fighters destiny,War Gods and Dark Rift for my n64. i need this too, looks awesome
I remember playing this game when I was about 6 or so, I did an ultra combo with Orchid on Kim... So nasty! Orchid's thongs also corrupted me a little at that age but whatever. Game is awesome
This brings back awesome memories.
I've never thought about it like that. But you're right. I happen to think that Killer Instinct is far more entertaining to watch though
Microsoft own Rare now. If another Killer Instinct gets released by Rare it will have to be on PC or Xbox.
Bellissimo !!! che ricordi!
Now that I come to think of it, the only reason I would have to be compelled to buy a wii u would be if they released Killer Instinct 3 on it
If you ask people about Mortal Kombat, they know, even if not serious players. If you do that in the case of KI. they do not know. It is sad, because for me, this game is many times better than any MK. Instead of MK for xbox360, there should be KI.

I REMEMBER THIS GAME SO WELL
The Xbox One version is basically Street Fighter IV clone with Killer Instinct Characters.
Cause N64 version based on KI2. SNES version based on KI
i'm aware, it's because KI2 was an arcade game.
2:38 The way he treats his sister!!!
6:43 He-Man is no match for Jago.
Lmao @0:24
Jago: IMSICKUHDISSHIT!!!
They should probably have re-released both KI and KI2 for the N64 after 1996's KI GOLD. Both games would have been improved even if it was impractical to include the FMV graphics. It was recorded with a Dazzle capture card and edited with Pinnacle Studio.
Loved this game
Spinal in my opinion is the best. Cool stage awesome theme good attacks and good defense and special attacks
kim wu is the best i think personally
Got this & Ki1 on
This wasn't an emulator. It was actual N64 footage captured/recorded on an old standard definition Dazzle capture card.
this game was the best
Ah old times. Wonder if the original Killer Instinct 64 music CD is worth anything these days, think it came with the game?
@MHMemeDoubleYourFun SFII is an absolute classic (I had the sticker book collection, Gi Joe SFII toys and bunked off school to play it at the arcades when I was 8yrs), I think part of it's charm is that the combo system was in fact, like you mentioned a mistake.
I prefer Killer Instinct's combo system, not because I think it's better than Street Fighters, but it's the combo system I understand the most.
Oh yeah....I had forgotten the name of this game, awesome.
Hell I was in the single digits (age) when I played this game
Don't be, its a free to play game that only comes with one character and you have to pay for the others. Free to play with a Gold Subscription by the way.
@MikamiPro Well, I do know that when Glacius does his Liquidize and Uppercut, you would counter it the Ninja Slide. That epic finish !!! :3
i think jago is the best character on this game
We want the Killer Instinct 3
Queremos o Killer Instinct 3..
i would lose my shit if they made a killer instinct 3
This is like street fighter and mortal kombat
Spinal looks like Dregan off of Mace The Dark Age
UULLLTRAAAA COMBOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
ULTRAAAAAAAAA COMBOOOOOOOOOOOO
You can, Google "Mame". It takes some time to get started, but once you're up and running it's smooth sailing.^_^
you are good at this game
The second fight background music sounds like Donkey Kong Music xD
Nice gameplay
This will be included with Rare Reply for the Xbox One.
YEp :D
I wish this was on Nintendo Wii virtual console.
my mom has heard of killer instinct also
I still think Orchid's theme is FIRE!!!
@NerevarMoonStar It was just on easy (one below normal and above very easy) :/. It's like Rock Paper Scissors :)
Thank you good sir.
faze miyake uses alot of these samples in his music

why is it 500$ . I miss this game so much online play when?
It's an old video, of an old game, what did you expect ChtiBiscuiT RétroHack 1920x1080? Uh, Nah.
Xander Crease You can record old consoles in high quality certainly - there are capture devices and upscalers available specifically aimed at retro consoles :)

Gee.... Jago reminds me of someone... who wears karate gi.... and a headband.... HADOUKEN.
....my iPhone 4S
looks cool still, but IMO the SNES version was alot better. kinda wierd how they made this version more cartoony.
Project64, Killer Instinct Gold ROM. ur set buddy. :)
Underrated and awesome as shit!!!
It was not at all underrated when it came out. It's s shame we couldn't get a proper sequel. The new KI reboot isn't bad though.
?? Killer instinct was massive.
@theREALzakair Jago was created before Ryu -.-
i like it
No juega más que yo nunca en la vida me lo pasaba en 12 minutos aveces ni me tocaban
the guy is speakin english
No juega más que yo nunca en la vida me lo pasaba en 12 minutos aveces ni me tocaban

Kim would fuck shit up.
glacius looks a bit off since hes gold like it just doesnt look right

Me too :)
Jaygow
??? no it's not have you even seen gameplay XD
I'm disappointed mostly because I don't wanna buy a shitty xbox to play a solid game. Exclusives make me sad :( and chris seavor doesn't work for Rareware anymore I don't think, so fuck em.
killer instinct is better than street fighter and mortal kombat combined
Or 30 bucks for a n64
