I miss the glass blowers shop, the store with Red Skeleton's clown paintings, the old warf smells, the candy shop, and the old style architecture. The same with old Town Mall in Torrance. The place looks too stainless steel and boxy. More for a condo sports crowd in mind. No small shops or character.
My sister misses the small shops selling merchandise, she was sad that yhe store that's old her favorite Bob Marley screen printed sweatpants is gone. 😢 This place is going to become just another boring yuppie paradise.
Port of Call in San Pedro was the only spot on the Los Angeles coast where Chicanos could go and not be made to feel like outsiders, but I guess wealthy developers didn't like that and had to obliterate the entire site to scare away the Mexicans.
Took my latina wife there and she said it was hood. Indeed it did feel like choloville, full of riff-raff and roughnecks. I'm glad they're developing it and look forward to giving it another shot. I agree with you, doubt the previous patrons will find this new uppity joint fitting as us normal folk will be taking over. We enjoy a beautiful venue that includes quality food, drinks, and peace. 😉
Never had any problems there myself. You could already take your "normal folk" pride to the many seaside locations that are predominantly attended by "normal folk" in Southern California. @@twczzkm
@@gregfalco4528 Most people prefer a non-raidernation environment. Don't you? Or do you thrive off that bravado where homies are ready to snap at moments notice? For me, that vibe is whack. In any case, there's places like Whittier or possibly Lacy Street where vatos can still go and kick it.
But that's the problem, you see Mexicans and automatically assume they are all "Raider Nation". If brown people frighten you, you can hang out on 3rd Street Promenade, or Manhattan Beach.@@twczzkm
What's the cost to taxpayers? Eric Johnson just said his private developement firm is in partnership with the city of LA. I just see a heist of taxpayer money. This site did not need developement, it was clearly attracting vistors as seen in news report.
There’s a homeless shelter 5 blocks away&theyre building an apartment to support those homeless in the same corner of the shelter,..100% gonna be full of homeless
As a San Pedro resident this is great but they really need to clean up this city of all of the mentally ill and drug addicts who roam freely, committing crimes and no police to patrol the neighborhoods. This city has over 2,000 registered sex offenders and no one talks about it. Shame on the city council and whatever so called mayor that runs this crappy town. All they care about are getting kickbacks to approve of these projects and forget about its constituents who work hard for their families who deserve a better ran town.
It is absolutely shameful this area that they have did. There was a beautiful beautiful Community Family Development Area back in the '80s and '90s. They've destroyed it. Now it is so commercial it is pathetic. No they're not talking about the families there that are homeless. They're not talking about the veterans there that are homeless. They turn this into a tourist trap. San Pedro was one of the last small true Community towns with historical importance that was still there in the old ports of call. How sad they lost it they destroyed it.
It is been more than a year since they had started this project we almost at the end of the year 2024 and it looks like this is going to be like this for quite some while
Ports O' Call Village was something unique, novel, and filled with charm, character with its fishing village old world architecture and restaurants with al fresco dining, anchor chained fences and the occasional ship ventilation cowl. Of course, not everything that is new is bad and not everything that is old is good but this project, still no updates, two years post publication is an example of gentrification in its highest order taking the local flavor and theme out and replacing it with a corporate, bland, boxy, and charmless feel. When it opens, if it ever does, yeah, I do plan to visit as I am a fan of "third places" it will not have the novelty and charm that Ports O' Call Village once did.
I will miss the village, it was charming, relaxing and nice for family this is going to look very corporate and they will probably charge a lot for parking. All places ariund LA county are becoming harder to enjoy now, is sad.
Who is Eric Johnson??? Labor of love??? Cha-Ching! Ask the businesses that were there and how they were treated Ask the San Pedro locals how they feel about the loss of Ports O Call and how things are being handled…
And for all the talk about the crime there are police and safety people on bikes patrolling the surrounding area. I grew up in San Pedro and moved to south LA for the past 15 years. I’ve lived in south LA, Ladera heights, view park and most recently Inglewood. I recently moved a block from Cabrillo beach and I am beyond happy to be home in my small town in the big city. Simply put I’ve been in the big city and not to minimize the crime in San Pedro because it does exists but while living in south LA i saw people shot in broad daylight so my view on crime maybe a little different from someone who has lived here their entire life. I am beyond excited for this to open!
I miss the old Ports ‘O call 😢😢
Just like everything else we get it going and then they take it away from us getting rid of San Pedro fish market for a dog park..... WTF

Looks like the developers blackmailed, muscled out the vendors from Port O Call to build this Labour of Larceny 😢
Don't they always!🤔
Corporate bastards can’t leave a good thing alone,it was a historical landmark… miss the old Ports O’call
Moved the restaurants into the parking lot, tore down beautiful old charm buildings to build airplane hangars, hideous.
"Adopted home town" this is gentrification at its finest. The San Pedro fish market will never be the same 😢

Hasn’t this been under construction for a while now?
yes this will be a monster very . from the mom and pop shops that were there. Higher prices for parking, restaurants and price gouging. shameful.
I grew up going to Ports O' Call.
Lived there during the seventies, used to frequent quite a bit

Urban Campers: Sweet, a new camping spot.
Lol
we’re bussing them to Wilmington
There’s a homeless shelter 5 blocks away&theyre building an apartment to support those homeless in the same corner of the shelter,..100% gonna be full of homeless
Indeed exciting for the San Pedro community and developers.
It would be prudent to take into account the changing tides and weather patterns.
It’s San Pedro Harbor in Los Angeles, not in San Diego.

Yes!
You bet.
Yes

Looks like hipster heaven. She was right when she said monstrosity! Goodbye to anything that made San Pedro interesting or unique!
Is this completed?
The old shops were better. What a shame. I remember all of the public shows.
So many parts of LA that go unrecognized
What the biggest concerns that they need to have is safety. With all the crime going on in LA. I miss the ports restaurants.
I CAN ASSURE YOU, ATLEAST 3 shooting will happen in the first month of opening 😬It’s sad but true
Looks generic and temporary, great job developer bob

Please make sure you have spot for all the homeless folks...having lived in San Pedro you are going to have to deal with homeless at some point 💁♀️
Especially if Bass becomes mayor.
All this cold cement venues with no place to park, good luck
is there going to be a skatepark built? That's been my skating spot for a while now
@wokenwtf no! You guys arent suppose to be skating there in the first place, so be gone !
We’ll there goes my fishing spot…
Is this what Gentrification looks like ?
And the project hasn’t even started
10 years ? This was the best they that came up with ?????
You destroyed it

😮taking forever....in what century???
I wonder if its still ganna have that foul mouth fishermen vibe?
We used to go to Ports of Call and it was always busy ,I don`t understand the reason for a change and I don`t like the change.
Booze, pot shop, ink & piercing, adult entertainment, ......etc.
8 pot shops and only 4 booze shops!!!!!! and 15 tat parlors.
Obviously, I'm in the wrong businesses.
Who is Eric Johnson???

Smh san Pedro not the same
I fondly remember the days of my youth in San Pedro when there was a little skid row.
Like a new Venice Beach.
About time SP!
Cha-ching 🤑💲for the developer
Pave paradise put up a parking lot
Ktla must be getting a kick back
This is SAD! Taking away the charm for money, hungry politicians
Finally… I always knew Pedro had so much potential as a port/beach city.
I see all the white peeps chilling there but where are you gonna displace all the latinos from the fish market ?!
Monstrosity of beautifullness.
She really saved that one lol.
it will never prosper till they get rid of THOSE PROJECTS!!!!...nuff-said!!!lol

It’s all the people in the comments talking about “the old shops were better” total BS. No one and I mean no one was going those shops. Just stop it.
