The Holland Lop we had at the school-age day care where I worked, made a mess in a corner of the staff restroom. I put a box in that spot and he used it when we let him roam. One day I saw him sitting next to the closed restroom door, so I watched, because I couldn't believe he was doing what I suspected. He could have hopped across the room and used his cage, which was open, but he waited for the teacher to open the door and leave, then hopped in to use his litter box. I told the teacher he had to go so bad, that he had crossed his ears.

I had no idea how to tell prior to that. Your video’s are so calm, non judgmental, kindhearted and knowledgable & Im soo grateful to have found them/you!
Thank you so much for this!!! Love you! Hey here's another video recommendation! Do a "Daily day routine video"'! Like showing us what you do in the morning and with the bunnies!
You're the best! I wish I lived in Ohio so i could get one of your adorable buns. I have a holly lop and 2 netherlands and im having trouble with my netherland's potty training but this helped a ton.
I’m kinda convinced my mom to let me get a bunny but the person I would get my bunny from doesn’t let the bunnies go to a new home until they are potty trained i just want to potty train my 2 outdoor bunnies because I would make cleaning so much easier
My rabbit is in a dog pen so it has a large roaming space in the room . I've mixed hay in its food and have hay in a feeder in his litter box. Having hay mainly available in his litter box is helping to train him 💕
I love your videos !!!!!!!!!!! Our first set of bunnies will be ready to go next week and I'm gonna recommend this video cause I know some of the familys that are getting the bunnies want to try and litter train them , so thanks for this video!!!!
This was good advice cuz on Friday we r gettin holland lop/mini rex mixes i gonna keep one in the house and one outside with our 7(somewhere around 7)year old rabbit so he wont be lonely
I always enjoy your videos and those gorgeous rabbits of yours! Hope to see some new videos once in a while, but there are still lots that I haven't seen yet that will entertain me! Thanks
Yay, you, like me discovered happily that the house rabbit society was mostly wrong. Yes, I'm an altered rabbit might be more reliable, but litter training is very, very possible. Sans babies, my rabbit can even run around the house mostly reliable (pebbles once in a blue moon, occasional rare hidden accident).
I have 2 bunnies, one a mini rex and one a checkered giant. My mini rex is perfect at using her litter box. But my checkered giant just doesn't seem to understand lol
I have two unnuetered rabbits together. They are great friends. When I first got them (I got them young) they di dnt use their litter box, the would go everywhere! I have now had them now for a bit over 5 months and they have 3 litter boxes in a large enclosure. They use them but I will come in the morning and see some poop scattered. But the important part is they always lee in the boxes and most poop. They took longer to learn but they finally did it. Because they are unneutered it took them about 2 and a half months.
This is some great advice! Dakota is pretty good with her litter training. In her pen she usually only pees in her litter boxes, but will poop everywhere, LOL! Outside of her pen, she occasionally leaves stray poop and very rarely do I find tiny puddle of pee. xD
All your bunnies are adorable, but that black and white one reminded me of a dalmatian. I have never seen a bunny that looked like that. Thanks for the video!
I work mostly with agouti and wideband colors (chinchilla, chestnut, orange, cream, frosty) and a bit of sable. I probably won't have chocolates in the near future. :) I actually don't leash train my bunnies as I have heard some scary stories about bunnies getting too stressed and hurting themselves while in the harness. I prefer exercise pens and allowing them to roam in a big room for play time. Just my preference. :)
Oh okay that's unfortunate for me since your the only breeder who I have come to love so far! I suppose I will get a orange bunny from you one day but maybe just maybe you'll get a chocolate lol! XDThat's fine I suppose I found out some proper ways to leash train your bunnies safely (Ill still use the exercise pens too). Thanks so much!
But can I have a bunny on a harness twice a week? I have a harness what I had made into a baseball jersey for my team and I am planning to bring him to one of our games.

Great video! I have a 3 year old male lion head bunny who has one litter box inside his cage and one in his play area. He always urinates in his litter boxes, but he still poops outside his litter boxes. He is not neutered either. A vacuum would make things sooo much easier!
I don't have a Holland lop, but I do have a lionhead mix! His name is timothy. But we are having a difficult time with litter training! So I hope your ideas work! Thank you!
I'm getting a 10 week old Holland Lop in mid-October. I currently have a 6'×4' pen setup and a rectangular litter pan that is 13"×10.5". May you please confirm if the size of my pen and litterbox are sufficient enough space for my 1 Holland Lop?
Hi there, can I ask while I'm potty training my bunny I understand keeping hay over the potty is #1. During the potty training time frame, is it important to not keep hay else where? Also, once the bunny is potty trained is it still ideal to only have the hay by the potty or will putting hay else encourage them to potty elsewhere. ?
Great question. I have a spray bottle filled with white vinegar and water in about a 3:1 ratio (it's mostly vinegar). I also have used cheap vodka/water/essential oils in a spray bottle but never got any cleaning done because I kept consuming it, LOL (just kidding). Vinegar is just cheaper. :)
I breed Rex rabbits here in Newcastle upon Tyne England I started over a year ago so I am still on a learning curve but I love your video’s .I have picked up some interesting tips x
Hmm, do you mean what type of litter do I use? I most often use compressed pine pellets from Tractor Supply or Rural King in 40lb bags, but there are other options such as shredded cardboard or newspaper pellets for those with just a couple rabbits.
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops yeas 😂 sorry I meant to say litter lol it’s just I happen to also have an aquarium and I had been talking about my tank grabble prior to my comment and question but I’m glad you figured out what I meant lol👍🏻 and great ... thank you soo very much for that information is good enough for me to choose either or 👍🏻 and I only have one bunny rabbit he’s about 2 to 3 month , I’d probably get some shredded cardboard and give it a good try thanks again 👍🏻... many blessings ...
This is really helpful!! I want to train all of my rabbit to go in a litter box :) I was wondering where did you get your cages?? I’m not sure if you covered this in another video... just thought I’d ask!!
Yep, I have one of those too, it was just too slow compared to the vacuum with so many cages to clean. Plus, some of the corners are hard to reach in my cages. Good tip though, thanks!
My rabbits are friendly. Now I have bought rabbits that bit me but that was due to them not being handled. If the rabbits are used to you then they are gentle. Same with picking up and carrying around. The more you handle and from a young age the better. Also some have a better personality
They are from KW Cages. I have one, she has also made a review video on this cage. You can get it in one, two, three, or even four stories. Hope this helps! They are quite expensive though.
I just had my bunny neutered a couple of days ago. Since he's been back he hasn't used to litter box to pee even once. He is peeing on the spot while eating his pellets suddenly, which he has never done before. All the poop is everywhere too but I can handle that, it's the never ending clean up of pee. I have wiped it up and put the paper in the litter box to remind him thats' where he needs to go but nothing has changed. This mustn't be very common, as the vet seemed dumbfounded
today is just day two of our bunny adventure, we brought home two netherland dwarf 9 week old babies yesterday. They have peed once in the kitchen and once in their pen, but they are pooping constantly all over their pen including on their bed, in their tunnel and anywhere they can. In fact, I'm not sure they are using their litter box to poo at all. Their hay bag hangs right above the box, but so much for eating and pooping at the same time. In your video I dont see any litter box with hay hanging above it or even any hay in it, so where is their hay? Also, you put the music on when you were hoovering their cages, but I wanted to see how loud your hoover is. Dont your bunnies get scared? Mine were terrified, so I had to put them in the laundry room and close the door before I could hoover up their cage. It was an exercise in futility, since they pooped everywhere as soon as they went in anyway. I keep telling myself its only day two, and things will get better, but maybe I need two litterboxes, and maybe I need to wait till they are neutered. But I'm reluctant to get two boxes because I want them to have space to run around in their pen, and not crowd it.
Keep your chin up! Not only are baby bunnies notorious for leaving poops around, but yours also may be completely new to the litter box experience as well as the sound of the vacuum. I place the hay in, above, or near the litter boxes. Spaying/neutering will help with their desire to mark their territory. As far as the vacuum, mine tolerate it well but have been exposed to it daily for quite some time. I have a blog article that may help you: www.ohiohollandlops.com/bunny-blog/category/litter-training
Honestly, I think it depends on the particular rabbit, as I have bucks and does who are very good about at least peeing in the litter boxes and a couple of each who have accidents on occasion. If you have other bunnies close by, I think bucks tend to want to spray their scent, but if more secluded, those same bucks can be litter trained more easily. I thought does would be much easier, but with non-spayed/non-neutered bunnies in close proximity, it's actually been pretty even between the genders for litter training.
Ok thanks so much, I am about to get my 2nd bunny and I love 2 of the bunnies in the litter which are opposite genders I just am trying to make a list of pro and cons to help me decide.
hi can I still put the tissue paper that I used to soak up the wee in the litter tray if it doesn't have a grid for them to sit on? it's just a normal one
Hi! thank you so much for your video and sharing this tips, one question please, is it bad if the bunny eats the paper towel? could it die? please help, thank you!
Is there any possible way to tell what mix your rabbit is? My cousin had to give away her rabbits because she had to many, as she thought both of her rabbits were boys, but one was a girl, they were two different breeds and my bunnies are their litter, I’m not sure what they are though and they’re just all black, their mom was gray, and I believe their father was a broken blue. But i can’t confirm that
I have several litter pans of the same type but for some reason they chew on the plastic box. I have multiple toys, cardboard boxes, hay, anything for her to focus elsewhere. I've placed a lot of stuff but for some reason she seems insistent on chewing on it. Obviously I'm concerned for the ingestation of plastic. What would you recommend?
We just got our first pet rabbit- mini rex! She's 3 months old and will be spaying her shortly I think. We are attempting to litter train her. She's in a cage that's W 30.50", D 17.50", H 16.00 atm, she's an indoor bunny that I hope someday to let roam our house. ATM, we are letting her out a couple times a day to run around my son's carpeted room, which she loves, but she pees and poops everywhere! She is beginning to use her corner box in the cage, mostly only for pee, but I'm finding she also seems to hold her pee until we let her run free in my son's room... When potty training, do you keep them stuck in their small cage until they learn, or do they still get free roam time even though they make messes everywhere? Should I stop letting her out of the cage till she's trained? I feel bad not letting her run since the cage seems small to me (even though she's small atm). I've never had a caged animal before (we have 2 indoor cats- so much easier to train!). Advice? Should I get her a bigger cage? Keep it small? Let her out/keep her in? Her current cage has wire bottom but I want to upgrade her to solid bottom. She seems to like pooping in the center of her cage. Any advice appreciated! Thanks! "Diamond" also thanks you.
It usually helps to keep the room very small until you see the bunny returning to the litter pan in the room for potty breaks. Then, you can expand the free-roaming zone. Additional litter boxes are helpful. As for the cage, bigger is almost always better. My bunnies have 42" wide cages that are 24" deep and some two stories. It depends on how much time they spend in their cages.
Where did you hear the square litter boxes with wire top to prevent litter scatter)dirty feet?? I know where to get the ware brand ones but what about the metal square ones?
Do you have a video explaining pedigrees? I’ve been binge watching your videos like a Netflix series. I’ve recently started my own herd (pet only right now) but pedigrees are somewhat confusing to me.
Yes, some of the bunnies really like to chew pine cones. You just have to make sure the pine cones are clean and aren't rotten from sitting on the ground too long. I usually order them from Farmer Dave's online.
i have one rabbit that will urinate in her litter box but does not poop in the litter box...we have the wire bottom cages...any suggestions? we eventually want solid bottom cages so we are working on litter training our rabbits too...makes cage cleaning day so much easier and faster!! thank you for the tips!!
Poop happens unfortunately, and unless your bunny is spayed/neutered, I think you're just going to have to deal with the poop balls here and there. The urine is the big issue in my opinion since most of the poop is dry and easy to clean/vacuum. Good luck! :)
Cages are vacuumed twice daily, litter boxes cleaned as needed (some daily and others every three days). The bigger bunnies tend to fill their boxes more quickly.
I've litter trained so many rabbits. The best you can hope for is all the pee in a litter box. Some rabbits never quite do all their poops in the litter box. Some do I've had a few really good bucks but most will only do all their pee in the box.
Something like this should work too: www.amazon.com/Red-Devil-4718-3-Piece-Plastic/dp/B001SBJIA8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1500650633&sr=8-4&keywords=putty+scraper
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops thank you so much for replying! ALSO, I just ordered those KW cages 2 of the two story villas and was charged extra to add vinyl on the second floor as well. 🙄 they aren't very customer friendly. Are you able to block out the top level with one bunny upstairs and one bunny downstairs? I asked them that and they tried to sell me a custom made cage that would cost a fortune. I already spend almost $900 on the ones I ordered. Probably not even close to what YOU spent but I feel for you!! I also mentioned that I heard about them from you and he just ignored my comment. Luckily, I live in California and might be able to dodge the astronomical shipping fee, but he said he will let me know. Ugh!
Well, I appreciate the name-drop, and eventually they may give a darn that I am referring customers their way, despite their lack of customer service and appreciation. If there was a better cage, I'd jump at the chance to recommend a different company, but the Bunny Villas are really awesome and worth the expense. Yes, I do separate the two levels if I need to wean babies on one level and keep the mom on the other. I usually place a large litter box over the opening or a flat piece of metal or ceramic tile with a litter box on top to keep them from playing in that area. It's worked fine for me. If you wanted a more permanent solution, maybe buying a small piece of adhesive vinyl tile or plexiglass to stick over the hole would work. That way, you can easily turn it back into two stories when you want. I hope you love your cages!
Please tell me how to get rid of the oil that got stuck on my Holland! He ran through cooking oil that spilled on the floor and now he's oily. I know that bathing them isn't good so maybe cornstarch??? Please tell me!!!
A couple of them hide, but they usually don't seem to mind. I bought a diffuser/muffler for my Rigid vacuum at Home Depot (like $11), and not only does it stop the exhaust from blowing hay all over, but it also quiets the vacuum a bit. They just get used to it, and some use the opportunity to escape out the door for exercise, so they see it as a positive I think. :)
That's very neat. Bunnies are smart! :)

My rabbits are friendly. Now I have bought rabbits that bit me but that was due to them not being handled. If the rabbits are used to you then they are gentle. Same with picking up and carrying around. The more you handle and from a young age the better. Also some have a better personality
If the little one starring from 1'19 is Sunny Jim, His sonny is His spitting image ‼️💕
your bunnies are really cute
Where did you get the two story cages?
They are from KW Cages. I have one, she has also made a review video on this cage. You can get it in one, two, three, or even four stories. Hope this helps! They are quite expensive though.
Wow! Expert!
Could you do a "Best Nesting Boxes" video? Like what you did with your "best litter boxes"?
Actually, that's a very good idea, as I have a collection of brands/sizes. On my "to do" list. :)
hey Hooks Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops is it easier to train a female rabbit or a male?
I would unless your bunny starts to eat it. Maybe bury it in the litter a bit.
Hi! thank you so much for your video and sharing this tips, one question please, is it bad if the bunny eats the paper towel? could it die? please help, thank you!
I've never had a problem with the bunnies nibbling paper towels or cardboard. They mostly just shred paper.
But i can’t confirm that
Not without pedigrees or genetic testing unfortunately. It would only be an educated guess at best.
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops Thank you!
Can u leave a link for where u got the hutch
my wife and I are about to get a bunny next week, I was wondering how old does your bunny have to be before they are fixed if its a male?
Usually around 5 months old.
Hmm...I suppose I'd try the metal litter pans then. KW Cages sells them but there may be others.
I love their condos! Where did you get them?
KW Cages
What made you choose litter boxes with wire over uncovered litter boxes?
I didn't want them digging or eating the litter. Just a preference, that's all. :)
What kind of cage do you use? And where can I find them?
She uses the KW Bunny Villa, and you can find them on amazon.
The metal boxes are from KW Cages, but I prefer the plastic ones since they're less cumbersome to clean in a sink.
Do you have a video explaining pedigrees? I’ve been binge watching your videos like a Netflix series. I’ve recently started my own herd (pet only right now) but pedigrees are somewhat confusing to me.
I don't have a video, but what would you like to know?
I see that you have pine cones in the rabbit's cage is that good for them?
Yes, some of the bunnies really like to chew pine cones. You just have to make sure the pine cones are clean and aren't rotten from sitting on the ground too long. I usually order them from Farmer Dave's online.
Hook's Hollands - Ohio Holland Lops thank you for it
i have one rabbit that will urinate in her litter box but does not poop in the litter box...we have the wire bottom cages...any suggestions? we eventually want solid bottom cages so we are working on litter training our rabbits too...makes cage cleaning day so much easier and faster!! thank you for the tips!!
Poop happens unfortunately, and unless your bunny is spayed/neutered, I think you're just going to have to deal with the poop balls here and there. The urine is the big issue in my opinion since most of the poop is dry and easy to clean/vacuum. Good luck! :)
Where are the cages from?
KW Cages
Does the litter training only works with urine?
What type of rabbit is that I have same one the in picture
What kind of floors are in those cages? Is it tile?
Textured vin yl
Where did you get the bigger litter boxes
How often do you clean their cages and litter boxes
Cages are vacuumed twice daily, litter boxes cleaned as needed (some daily and others every three days). The bigger bunnies tend to fill their boxes more quickly.
Where did you buy the cages?
Where did you get those big cages ?
My bunnys name is luna too but she gray and white
My bunnys name is also luna😂
What kind of litter do you use for the rabbits
Currently, I'm using compressed wood pellets from TSC/Rural King.
I've litter trained so many rabbits. The best you can hope for is all the pee in a litter box. Some rabbits never quite do all their poops in the litter box. Some do I've had a few really good bucks but most will only do all their pee in the box.
Where did you purchase the scraper you use for the litter box?
Home Depot/Lowe's will have plastic putty scrapers similar to this. I wouldn't suggest metal ones since they scratch plastic.
I hope you love your cages!
can you do a video on you daily bunny routine
Can you feature some of your grey and light brown Hollander lops bunnies.
Please tell me how to get rid of the oil that got stuck on my Holland! He ran through cooking oil that spilled on the floor and now he's oily. I know that bathing them isn't good so maybe cornstarch??? Please tell me!!!
I've never had that problem, so I'm not sure what to suggest. Maybe someone else will chime in.
I would suggest giving them a butt bath and slowly going up with a cloth
Nani Vlogs I'd recommend taking your bunny to the vet or to a groomer to get her cleaned off. Just so it's done safely
Where do u get a Cage like urs
Where did you get the cages from?
KW Cages
Love your chanell
lol I have a black bunny named Bella the one that was not taking care of her babies but it was her first time
can you give me the Link of the rabbit Stable 😘😘😘
Does the vacuum not scare the bunnies?
A couple of them hide, but they usually don't seem to mind. I bought a diffuser/muffler for my Rigid vacuum at Home Depot (like $11), and not only does it stop the exhaust from blowing hay all over, but it also quiets the vacuum a bit. They just get used to it, and some use the opportunity to escape out the door for exercise, so they see it as a positive I think. :)
